In an India price snapshot, the Redmi was listed for less; check current prices and the exact regional model before buying.

Which phone has the better screen and cameras?
Screen size
Xiaomi UK lists the Redmi’s screen at 6.99 inches, compared with 6.7 inches for Samsung’s A37. Both are listed as FHD+ AMOLED displays with refresh rates up to 120Hz. The Redmi is the larger-screen option by published diagonal; panel labels and specifications alone do not establish which looks better in person.
Camera setup
Samsung specifies three rear cameras: a 50MP wide, 8MP ultra-wide, and 5MP macro, plus a 12MP front camera. Xiaomi’s UK and India pages list a 50MP main rear camera, but differ on the front camera: 16MP in the UK and 8MP in India. A larger megapixel count or more camera modules does not by itself establish better photo quality.

Why do Redmi specifications vary by region?
Xiaomi’s official pages do not give one consistent set of specifications for every Redmi Note 17 5G market. The UK page lists a 7,700mAh typical battery and 16MP front camera; India lists an 8,000mAh typical battery and 8MP front camera. Xiaomi’s global page also gives 7,700mAh. Confirm the local model number and its official specifications rather than assuming that a phone with the same name has identical hardware everywhere.
Package contents also differ in the listed regional specifications: Xiaomi India says a 45W adapter, case, and pre-applied screen protector are included; the UK page says no power adapter is included. Check the box contents for the exact market and seller.

Which phone is more durable, and what do the ratings mean?
Samsung lists the A37 as IP68, while Xiaomi’s global Redmi page lists IP65. These are different ingress-protection ratings; neither is a promise that a phone cannot be damaged by water or dust. Follow the manufacturer’s care and warranty terms rather than treating either rating as permission for risky exposure.

Software support
Samsung says the A37 is eligible for up to six generations of Android OS and One UI upgrades and up to six years of security updates. Xiaomi’s global Redmi page states six years of security updates; the cited Xiaomi information does not establish an equivalent OS-upgrade commitment. Update availability and timing can vary by model and market, so check the terms for the device sold in your country.

Battery capacity is not runtime
The published capacity is 5,000mAh typical for the A37, against 7,700mAh typical on Xiaomi UK/global Redmi pages or 8,000mAh typical on Xiaomi India’s page. Capacity figures do not establish how long either phone lasts in use; no independent head-to-head runtime result is available here.
Network and availability checks
Samsung said the A37 would become available starting April 10, 2026, in select markets, not universally. Before importing or buying either phone, confirm that the exact regional model supports your carrier’s network bands and that local service, warranty, and software terms apply.

Which one should you buy?
- Choose the Galaxy A37 5G if Samsung’s stated OS and security-update policy or its IP68 rating matters most to you, and the local price fits your budget.
- Consider the Redmi Note 17 5G if you want the larger listed screen or the higher published battery capacity, and you have verified the specifications for your region.
- For a lower-cost option in India, the Redmi was listed lower in the cited price snapshot, but verify current seller, stock, and like-for-like configuration before treating that as a buying advantage.
