If your Galaxy A37 is losing charge unusually fast, start by checking whether the phone is still finishing setup, then identify battery-heavy apps, install available updates, run Device Care, and test whether 5G or weak signal is involved. Only after those reversible checks should you investigate downloaded apps in Safe mode or ask Samsung for a battery assessment. The A37 has a 5,000 mAh typical battery, but actual runtime changes with network conditions, screen use, apps, and battery age.
Why the Galaxy A37 may be draining faster than expected
Fast drain does not automatically mean the battery is defective. Samsung identifies several ordinary causes that can overlap:
- Recent setup or restoration: a new or freshly reset phone may spend the first few days installing apps, restoring data, indexing files, and optimizing services. That activity can temporarily increase consumption.
- Background activity: an app can continue syncing, using location, refreshing content, or processing uploads while you are not actively using it.
- Network conditions: 5G and weak or unstable coverage can require more radio activity. Samsung specifically warns that 5G networks may drain the battery faster.
- Screen and feature use: high brightness, long screen-on periods, streaming, navigation, camera use, gaming, and location services all raise demand.
- Software or app problems: an outdated system or a misbehaving downloaded app can keep waking the phone.
- Battery aging: lithium-ion capacity declines after repeated charge and discharge cycles. Samsung says the lost capacity cannot be restored.
Use the steps below in order. They begin with observation and low-disruption changes, so you can identify a cause without immediately sacrificing notifications or resetting the phone.

During the first few days after initial setup, Samsung says Galaxy phones optimize apps and services. Restoring a large backup, downloading updates, and signing in to many accounts can keep the processor, storage, display, and network radios busy. A temporary drop in battery life during this period is therefore not proof of a hardware fault.

Keep the phone connected to Wi-Fi when practical, finish pending app installations, and check usage again after setup activity has subsided. Do not ignore an app that is consuming an obviously disproportionate share during this period: early optimization and a runaway app can occur at the same time. If the phone was not recently set up, skip this waiting period and continue with the diagnostic checks.
2. Install system and app updates
Samsung’s battery guidance starts with updates because system fixes and app updates can correct excessive background activity or compatibility problems.
- Open Settings and select Software update. Choose Download and install if an update is offered.
- Open the Play Store and Galaxy Store and review pending app updates. Update apps that appear high in battery usage first, then update the remainder.
- Restart the phone after major updates and observe it for a normal day of use before changing several other settings at once.
Menu names can differ by country, carrier, and One UI version. Install the update offered to your own handset rather than assuming that a firmware build listed for another market applies to you.
Current A37 firmware context
Samsung’s firmware notice for the SM-A376E variant lists Android 16 build A376EXXS5AZH4, released September 8, 2026, with an August 5, 2026 security patch. This is a regional model notice, not a universal release promise. Other A37 model numbers, countries, and carriers can receive different builds or dates.
3. Find the app or service using the battery
The battery-use screen is the quickest way to replace guesswork with evidence. Open Settings and look for Battery or Battery and device care > Battery; labels vary by software build. Review the graph and the list of apps or services for the period in which the drain occurred.

- Look for one downloaded app whose foreground or background use is much higher than expected.
- Compare usage with what you actually did. A video app used for hours can legitimately rank high; a rarely opened utility that runs constantly is more suspicious.
- Open an app’s entry to see whether background use is prominent. Update the app first, then test restricting or uninstalling it if the pattern persists.
- Check again after each change. Changing several apps simultaneously makes it difficult to identify the cause.
System components can also appear near the top when the phone has poor reception, is restoring data, or is synchronizing accounts. Treat the list as a clue rather than a standalone diagnosis.
4. Run Device Care optimization
Samsung’s Device Care optimization can identify excessive battery use and close unnecessary background processes. On recent Galaxy software, use Settings > Device care or Settings > Battery and device care > Optimize now. The exact wording may differ.
Optimization is a reversible check, not a cure for every drain problem. Run it once, note any app or warning it identifies, and then revisit Battery usage. If the same app repeatedly appears, investigate that app instead of repeatedly running optimization.
5. Limit background activity selectively
Samsung allows unused apps to be put to sleep and lets you create sleeping or deep-sleeping lists. These controls can reduce background work, but they change how apps behave.
Use ordinary sleeping for occasional apps
Place rarely used apps in a sleeping list when you do not need them to refresh continuously. They may run less often in the background and use less power, while still being available when opened.

Reserve deep sleep for apps that can wait
Deep sleep prevents an app from operating in the background until you open it. That can save energy, but notifications, automatic syncing, location updates, uploads, and other time-sensitive functions may be delayed. Do not deep-sleep messaging, accessibility, health, security, or work apps that must deliver timely alerts.

Start with a downloaded app that the Battery screen already identified. Leave essential Samsung and system services alone unless Samsung support specifically directs otherwise. After changing a list, use the phone normally and check whether both drain and app behavior improve.
6. Test network conditions and 5G
Samsung states that 5G can use more power and that weak or unstable coverage can increase consumption because the phone works harder to maintain service. A radio-related drain often appears when the phone spends time in a basement, rural area, large building, or location where coverage repeatedly changes.
- Use the phone for a comparable period in a location with stronger, stable coverage and compare the Battery graph.
- If your carrier and software expose a preferred-network setting, temporarily select LTE/4G instead of 5G as a diagnostic test.
- Restore your preferred network mode after the comparison if 5G is important to you.
This test does not prove that 5G hardware is faulty. It shows whether the radio environment is a major contributor in your normal locations. A phone that drains much faster only in weak-signal areas may be behaving normally for those conditions.
7. Reduce screen demand without guessing a percentage
The display is often a large consumer during active use. Lower brightness, shorten the screen timeout, and avoid leaving navigation or video playing when you are not watching. These are low-risk checks, but no universal percentage saving applies: the result depends on brightness, content, refresh behavior, signal, and how long the screen is on.

- Use adaptive or manually lower brightness when comfortable.
- Set a shorter screen timeout in Settings > Display.
- Turn off features you do not use, such as continuous location sharing or hotspot operation.
- Compare screen-on time in Battery usage before and after the change.
Do not sacrifice accessibility or safety settings merely to chase a number. The useful question is whether the A37’s workload matches your usage and whether a particular feature is responsible for unexpected activity.
8. Use Power saving with its trade-offs understood
Power saving can reduce background activity and other performance demands when you need extra runtime. It is most useful as a short-term measure during travel, an outage, or a long day away from an outlet. Depending on the software version, it can restrict background data, processing speed, display behavior, or always-on features.
Because those restrictions can delay syncing or notifications, Power saving is not a substitute for finding a runaway app or poor-signal condition. If enabling it dramatically changes drain, inspect which background tasks were being limited and decide whether a narrower app-level restriction is preferable.
9. Test for a downloaded app in Safe mode
Safe mode disables downloaded apps while leaving core phone software available. It is a useful comparison: if the A37 lasts noticeably longer in Safe mode under similar conditions, an installed app is a plausible cause. If drain is unchanged, the cause may be network, system activity, usage, or battery condition. Safe mode alone cannot diagnose battery hardware.

On many Galaxy builds, open the power menu, touch and hold Power off, and choose Safe mode. The labels and entry method can vary by software version. Confirm the Safe mode indicator, use the phone for a meaningful comparison, and then restart normally to exit.

Interpreting the result
- Drain improves: remove or update recently installed apps, starting with those that rank high in Battery usage. Re-test after each removal.
- Drain does not improve: focus on signal, screen-on time, system updates, and battery diagnostics rather than uninstalling apps at random.
- Important notifications disappear: that is expected for disabled downloaded apps; return to normal mode before judging notification reliability.
10. Understand the A37 battery specifications
Samsung lists the Galaxy A37 5G battery as non-removable, with the following manufacturer specifications:

Samsung also notes that real battery life depends on network conditions, apps, features, and usage patterns. A 5,000 mAh label therefore cannot establish how many hours your individual phone should last.
11. Decide when the battery itself needs attention
Capacity naturally declines with repeated charging and discharging. Samsung describes the battery as a consumable component and says reduced capacity cannot be restored. A phone that was adequate when new but now loses charge quickly even with light use, strong signal, updated software, and no suspicious app deserves a device-specific check.
There is no published universal drain-rate percentage in the available A37 material that proves a battery is defective. Do not diagnose the battery from a single overnight reading or from comparisons with another person’s phone. Use Samsung Members diagnostics if available on your device, or contact Samsung support for an assessment.
Seek support promptly for unusual symptoms
- The phone becomes unusually hot during light use or while idle.
- The percentage drops abruptly, the phone shuts down unexpectedly, or charging behaves erratically.
- The back cover or screen appears lifted, which can indicate swelling.
- Drain remains severe after updates, app testing, network comparison, and Safe mode.
Because the A37 battery is non-removable, do not puncture, pry, or order a DIY replacement. Stop using a visibly swollen or damaged phone and follow Samsung’s safety and service guidance.
Which fix should you try first?
The following order balances diagnostic value, disruption, and reversibility:

Practical prevention after the drain is understood
- Keep Android and frequently used apps current.
- Review Battery usage after installing a new app or restoring a backup.
- Use sleeping lists for genuinely occasional apps, not services that must alert you.
- Expect higher consumption in weak coverage and decide whether LTE is preferable in those locations.
- Keep brightness and screen timeout aligned with how you actually use the phone.
- Use Power saving as a temporary runtime measure, while preserving critical notifications.
- Run Samsung Members diagnostics when the phone’s behavior remains abnormal instead of relying on a made-up drain threshold.
What a power bank can and cannot do
A USB-C power bank can provide temporary additional runtime when you are away from an outlet. It does not correct a background process, weak-signal drain, software fault, or aging battery. Treat it as a convenience accessory while troubleshooting, not as a repair. Since the A37 battery is non-removable, an external power source is the practical temporary option until the cause is identified or Samsung evaluates the phone.
