The Galaxy A36 5G is the better-equipped phone, but its most tangible advantages over the Galaxy A26 5G are 45W charging, stereo speakers and a more capable macro-camera specification—not a better screen, main camera or advertised software-support period. Samsung’s March 2026 US list prices put the unlocked 128GB A36 at $399.99 and the A26 at $299.99, a calculated $100 difference. Both entries are marked end of life (EOL), so those figures are a dated MSRP reference, not a live price or a guarantee of availability.
What are the main differences between the Galaxy A36 and A26?
Samsung announced both phones in March 2025. Their core specifications overlap: each has a 6.7-inch FHD+ Super AMOLED display with a refresh rate of up to 120Hz, a 50MP stabilized main camera, a 5,000mAh typical-capacity battery, IP67 resistance and the same stated software-support commitment. The A36 adds faster charging, stereo speakers and a 5MP macro camera; the A26 has a 13MP front camera, compared with 12MP on the A36.

It depends on whether you will use its specific upgrades. The $100 difference is the arithmetic gap between Samsung’s listed US MSRPs for unlocked 128GB models—not a verified current retail-price difference. Both models are marked EOL on that list, and real offers, stock and configurations vary by seller and market. Compare the exact storage and RAM configuration, whether the phone is unlocked or carrier-sold, and the final local price before deciding.

Choose the A36 if charging and speakers matter
The A36 supports 45W charging, which gives it a clear specification advantage over the A26: Samsung’s launch announcement does not claim 45W charging for the A26. The A36 also has stereo speakers. These differences are more likely to affect daily use than the small differences in camera megapixel counts.
Choose the A26 if you can save meaningfully
The A26 retains the shared large AMOLED display, stabilized 50MP main camera, battery capacity, IP67 rating and update commitment. If those features cover your needs and the A26 is substantially cheaper at the time and place you buy, the shared specifications may matter more than the A36’s extras.
How do charging and battery compare?
Both phones are specified with a 5,000mAh typical-capacity battery. Samsung notes a rated minimum of 4,905mAh and says actual battery life varies with network, usage and other factors. The A36 supports 45W charging; Samsung’s launch announcement does not state that charging rate for the A26, so do not assume the two charge equally fast.

Samsung Ireland publishes video-playback estimates of up to 29 hours for the A36 and up to 17 hours for the A26. These are Samsung’s manufacturer figures, not independent test results, and they do not guarantee the same runtime in everyday use. Samsung Ireland’s regional comparison gives the estimates.
Are the cameras better on the A36?
Both phones have the same headline main-camera setup: a 50MP rear camera with autofocus and OIS, plus an 8MP ultrawide. The A36’s macro camera is specified at 5MP, compared with 2MP on the A26. That is a hardware difference, but megapixels alone do not establish how good close-up photos look.
The front-camera comparison is mixed: the A26 has a 13MP camera, while the A36 has a 12MP unit. Samsung identifies 10-bit HDR front-camera recording as an A36 feature. A higher megapixel count by itself does not establish which phone takes better selfies, and the available specifications do not demonstrate a general real-world image-quality winner.

Do the screen, build and software support differ?
Samsung lists the same 6.7-inch FHD+ Super AMOLED display with refresh rates up to 120Hz for both phones. It also lists IP67 resistance and Gorilla Glass Victus+ on the front and rear of each. Samsung’s water-resistance information describes controlled freshwater submersion and cautions against beach or pool use; an IP rating should not be treated as permission to expose a phone to every kind of water.
Both launched with Android 15 and One UI 7. Samsung announced up to six generations of Android OS and One UI upgrades and six years of security updates for each. This is the stated support commitment, not a claim that the phones will receive every update on the same day.
What about performance and other features?
Samsung’s launch announcement identifies the A36 platform as Snapdragon 6 Gen 3. Samsung Ireland’s regional comparison has an inconsistent chipset row, so its conflicting chipset labels should not be used to assign processors to either model. The cited official sources do not confidently establish the A26 chipset here; a definitive A36-versus-A26 performance ranking would therefore go beyond the available evidence.
Samsung says both phones include Circle to Search, Object Eraser and Filters. The A36 also has stereo speakers, while the launch materials identify 45W charging and its Snapdragon 6 Gen 3 platform as A36 specifications. The presence of these features does not by itself establish a particular speed or audio-quality advantage.
Quick Recap
Which phone should you buy?
- Get the A36 if its 45W charging, stereo speakers or higher-resolution macro camera are worth the extra cost to you, and you find it at a sensible local price.
- Get the A26 if it is meaningfully cheaper and you mainly want the shared display, main-camera specification, battery capacity, water-resistance rating and advertised support period.
- Compare current offers rather than relying on MSRP: Samsung’s March 2026 US prices are historical list references for unlocked 128GB models, and both are marked EOL. Neither figure establishes today’s price or stock in your market.
