The Samsung Galaxy A35 5G has a faster listed display refresh rate and a more capable protection rating; the Galaxy A17 5G has a slightly larger screen and an explicitly stated six-year security-support period. But “Galaxy A17” can mean either a 5G or LTE model, and the available price example compares different variants in one market—not a universal A35-versus-A17 price gap.
First, identify which Galaxy A17 you mean
Samsung’s UK product page covers the Galaxy A17 5G. Samsung’s El Salvador store also lists a Galaxy A17 LTE. Those are different connectivity variants, so an “A35 vs A17” comparison needs the country and model variant stated before comparing network support or price.
The specifications below compare the A35 5G and A17 5G as listed by Samsung UK. The price example is separate: it comes from Samsung El Salvador and pairs an A35 5G with an A17 LTE.

Which phone has the better display?
It depends on whether you value screen size or refresh rate more. Samsung lists the A17 5G at 6.7 inches, compared with 6.6 inches for the A35 5G. Both are FHD+ Super AMOLED displays, while the A35’s listed refresh rate reaches 120 Hz versus up to 90 Hz on the A17. The A17 is marginally larger; the A35 is the stronger pick on the published refresh-rate specification.

Do the camera specifications make one the winner?
Not by themselves. Samsung lists a 50 MP main camera, OIS, and two additional rear cameras on each phone; the A35’s additional cameras are 8 MP and 5 MP, while the A17’s are 5 MP and 2 MP. Megapixel counts do not show how the phones perform in different lighting or how well their image processing handles a scene. Without a reliable direct comparison, there is no evidence here to name a photo-quality winner.
How do their water and scratch protections differ?
Samsung says the A35 5G is rated IPX4/IP67 under IEC 60529. Its product page describes ratings obtained in controlled lab conditions, notes that resistance can diminish over time, and advises against beach or pool use. IP ratings are not a promise that a phone is waterproof or safe in every exposure.

Samsung UK lists the A17 5G as IP54, indicating splash protection, and says its display has Gorilla Glass Victus scratch defense. These are separate attributes: an IP rating concerns ingress protection, while the glass claim concerns scratch defense. For either phone, follow Samsung’s handling guidance rather than treating a rating as a guarantee against damage.
What is the Galaxy A35 vs A17 price difference?
There is no established universal price difference. Samsung El Salvador’s store snapshot displays a 256 GB Galaxy A35 5G at US$279 and a 256 GB Galaxy A17 LTE with 8 GB RAM at US$270. That is a US$9 difference in those displayed local listings, not a like-for-like comparison of A35 5G and A17 5G. Prices can vary by market, configuration, retailer, and time; check current local listings for the same connectivity variant and comparable storage before deciding.

- Confirm the A17 variant: check whether the listing is for A17 LTE or A17 5G, and verify the model supports your carrier’s network.
- Compare local, equivalent configurations: use current prices from the same country and compare memory and storage as well as connectivity.
- Choose your display priority: favor the A17 for its slightly larger listed screen or the A35 for its higher stated refresh rate.
- Match protection to your needs: understand the limits of the stated IP ratings and do not treat them as waterproofing guarantees.
