The Galaxy A34 5G has the smoother listed display and higher-resolution ultra-wide and macro cameras; the Galaxy A17 5G has the larger listed screen measurement and Samsung’s longer stated software-support commitment. Both list a 5,000mAh battery and optical image stabilization (OIS) on the main camera. There is no fair, current price difference to quote without a country and comparable offers for the same storage, condition and warranty.

These are published specifications, not comparative test results. Samsung’s A34 launch specifications are in its Galaxy A34 launch announcement; A17 details vary by source and region, including Samsung’s UK specifications page.
Which phone has the better display?
The A34 is the stronger choice if screen refresh rate is your priority: its listed 120Hz rate is higher than the A17’s up-to-90Hz rate. A higher refresh rate can make scrolling and compatible animations look smoother, though it does not by itself establish brightness, color accuracy or outdoor readability.
The A17’s listed diagonal is larger: Samsung gives 6.7 inches measured as a full rectangle, or 6.5 inches accounting for rounded corners. The A34 is listed at 6.6 inches. Because the stated measurement conventions are not identical, the numbers do not guarantee a meaningful difference in usable screen area.

How do the cameras compare?
Both phones list OIS on the main rear camera, a feature designed to help compensate for hand movement. The A17 lists a 50MP main sensor versus 48MP on the A34, but megapixel counts alone cannot show which phone takes better photos. Image quality also depends on the sensor, lens, processing and shooting conditions; no direct camera test establishes a winner here.
The A34 has higher listed resolution for its secondary rear cameras: 8MP versus 5MP on the ultra-wide, and 5MP versus 2MP on the macro. That is a specification advantage, not proof that those cameras produce better images in every situation.

Battery capacity and charging
Samsung lists a 5,000mAh typical battery for the A34 and a 5,000mAh battery for the A17. The matching capacity figures do not establish matching real-world battery life: display settings, signal strength, software and workload all affect runtime, and no comparable battery test is available here.
Samsung’s UK launch announcement says the A17 supports 25W fast charging. Charging performance depends on the phone, compatible adapter and conditions. Samsung’s U.S. A17 listing says a charger is not included in the box; check the contents for the regional model before buying an adapter. Which phone has longer software support?
The A17 has the longer stated support commitment: Samsung advertises six OS upgrades and six years of security support for it in the UK. At the A34’s launch, Samsung promised up to four generations of OS upgrades and five years of security updates. These commitments describe advertised support, not identical delivery dates across all variants. Update timing can depend on model, country and carrier.
Samsung’s update history for A17 model SM-A176B lists an Android 16 security update released on 29 September 2026, with the security patch level dated 5 September 2026. That record applies to the identified model and market context, not necessarily every A17 variant; Samsung notes that update details may differ by model, country and carrier. Galaxy A34 vs A17 price difference
A price difference cannot be calculated fairly from the available figures because they refer to different countries, dates and configurations, and there is no comparable current A34 price. Samsung’s U.S. listing showed the A17 5G with 128GB unlocked at $249.99 when accessed; prices and availability can change. Samsung’s UK launch announcement in 2025 listed £199, while Samsung India’s 2025 launch release listed these configurations:

For a useful local comparison, check the same country, RAM and storage tier, new or refurbished condition, seller and warranty, and note the date. Compare refurbished or marketplace A34 offers separately from new A17 offers rather than treating them as like-for-like.
Which one should you choose?
- Choose the A34 based on the published specs if you value a 120Hz display or higher listed resolution on the ultra-wide and macro cameras.
- Choose the A17 based on the published support promise if Samsung’s longer stated update commitment matters most, or if you prefer its slightly larger full-rectangle screen measurement.
- Compare local offers before deciding on value. The available price figures do not establish which phone costs less in your market today, and the A34’s current price is not established here.
Before purchase, verify the exact regional model code, memory configuration, cellular-band support, box contents and warranty. Specifications and included items can differ across regional variants.
