The Galaxy A26 5G is the stronger-equipped choice on the official specifications available here: Samsung lists a 120Hz display, an 8MP ultrawide camera and an IP67 rating. The Galaxy A17 5G has a 90Hz display and a 5MP ultrawide in the cited UK specification. Both share a 6.7-inch FHD+ Super AMOLED screen, a 50MP main camera with optical image stabilization (OIS), a 5,000mAh typical battery, and a substantial stated software-support commitment. There is no dependable universal price winner; compare current offers for the same country, storage and sales conditions.
Galaxy A26 vs A17: key specifications
| Specification | Galaxy A26 5G | Galaxy A17 5G |
|---|---|---|
| Display | 6.7-inch FHD+ Super AMOLED; Samsung’s launch comparison lists 120Hz | 6.7-inch FHD+ Super AMOLED; cited Samsung UK specification lists 90Hz |
| Rear cameras | 50MP main with OIS, 8MP ultrawide, 2MP macro | 50MP main with OIS, 5MP ultrawide, 2MP macro |
| Front camera | 13MP | 13MP |
| Battery capacity | 5,000mAh typical | 5,000mAh typical |
| Samsung video-playback estimate | Up to 17 hours on Samsung Gulf’s product page | Up to 18 hours on Samsung UK’s product page |
| Dust and water rating | IP67, according to Samsung | Not established here from a sufficiently clear official source for the relevant variant |
| Software support | Samsung regional product pages state six OS upgrades and six years of security updates | Samsung Gulf states six generations of OS upgrades and six years of security updates from first global launch; policy may change |
These specifications come from different Samsung regional pages and launch materials, so confirm the exact configuration sold in your country. Samsung’s playback figures are manufacturer estimates, not matched independent battery tests. The higher ultrawide megapixel count also does not by itself establish better photo quality.
Which screen is better?
Both phones are listed with the same screen size, resolution class and display family: 6.7-inch FHD+ Super AMOLED. The cited Samsung launch comparison gives the A26 a 120Hz refresh rate, while the Samsung UK A17 listing gives the A17 90Hz. A higher refresh rate can make supported motion and scrolling look smoother, but the exact regional model specifications should be checked before purchase.

Both models have a 50MP main camera with OIS, a 2MP macro camera and a 13MP front camera in the cited Samsung specifications. The A26’s listed ultrawide is 8MP; the A17’s is 5MP. That is a resolution difference, not proof that the A26 takes better photos: no matched independent camera test is established here.

Battery life and water resistance
Samsung lists a typical 5,000mAh battery for each model. Its regional pages estimate up to 17 hours of video playback for the A26 in Gulf-market materials and up to 18 hours for the A17 in UK materials. Since the estimates come from different regional pages and are not a controlled comparison, they do not show that the A17 lasts longer in real-world use.
Samsung states that the A26 is rated IP67. A sufficiently clear official A17 rating for a specific market or variant is not established in the cited material, so a direct rating comparison would be premature. IP67 is a device rating, not a promise that the A26 is waterproof or immune to damage.

Software support: what Samsung states
Samsung’s product materials state six OS upgrades and six years of security updates for the A26. Samsung Gulf describes the A17 policy as six generations of OS upgrades and six years of security updates from its first global launch, with wording subject to change. These are manufacturer policy statements. For a phone bought later, consider the remaining support period from its launch and check the policy for the exact regional model rather than treating the number of years as a fresh period beginning at purchase.

There is no single reliable price difference across markets or dates. Samsung U.S.’s store page displayed $249.99 for an unlocked 128GB A17 when the listing was collected. A Samsung U.S. MSRP file dated March 2026 lists the 128GB A17 at $199.99 and the 128GB A26 at $299.99, with the A26 entry marked “EOL.” The $100 gap between those MSRP entries is a calculation from that dated file, not a guaranteed current street-price difference: an MSRP listing, a store-page price and an end-of-life designation are different evidence. The U.S. A17 listing says a charger is not included.

- Immersive 120Hz Display: Watch, browse, and game on a stunning 6.7-inch FHD+ Super AMOLED display. The 120Hz refresh rate provides an incredibly smooth, fluid scrolling experience, while Vision Booster ensures your screen stays clear and bright, even in direct sunlight.
- Pro-Grade 50MP OIS Camera: Capture life in stunning detail with the 50MP main camera featuring OIS (Optical Image Stabilization) for crisp, blur-free photos and steady videos. The system also includes an 8MP ultrawide and 13MP front camera, so you get the perfect shot every time.
- Massive Battery & Fast Charging: Power through your entire day and then some with a massive 5,000mAh battery. When you finally need a boost, 25W Super Fast Charging gets you back to 100% in a hurry, so you’re never tethered to an outlet for long.
- Durable by Design, Ample Storage: Built to handle life's moments, the Galaxy A26 features an IP67 water and dust-resistant rating. With 128GB of internal storage and the option to add up to 2TB more with a microSD card, you'll have all the space you need for your apps, photos, and files.
Regional prices and configurations differ. For example, a Samsung India A17 page showed a 6GB/128GB variant at ₹26,999 in its search result. Do not compare that price with a U.S. listing or assume the same memory configuration is sold everywhere.
How to make a fair price comparison
- Use the same country and purchase date for both phones.
- Match storage capacity and, where applicable, RAM.
- Compare like sales conditions: unlocked with unlocked, or the same carrier and contract terms.
- Check whether the price is a regular listing, promotion or dated manufacturer MSRP, and verify availability and warranty.
Which Galaxy phone should you choose?
On the cited specifications, the A26 is the clearer pick if a 120Hz screen, higher-resolution ultrawide camera or stated IP67 rating matters to you. The A17 retains the same listed screen size and display family, main-camera resolution and OIS, front-camera resolution, typical battery capacity, and broad support commitment. Whether the A26 is worth paying more for depends on the actual like-for-like price in your market; the available U.S. price references do not establish a current universal premium.
