The Samsung Galaxy A17 5G is the stronger fit if you want a sharper Super AMOLED display, optical image stabilization, microSD expansion, and a defined long-term software-support commitment. The vivo Y51 Pro 5G is better suited to buyers who prioritize a 120Hz screen, a larger stated battery, faster rated charging, and higher water- and dust-resistance ratings. The available prices are not a current, like-for-like comparison: Samsung’s figures are launch prices, while vivo’s is a shop listing.
How the Galaxy A17 and Y51 Pro compare
These are India-market 5G phones with different strengths. The A17 emphasizes display resolution, camera hardware and software support; the Y51 Pro emphasizes refresh rate, battery capacity, charging speed and durability ratings. Specifications alone do not establish which phone performs better in everyday use.

Which display is better for your priorities?
The A17 has the much higher listed resolution and uses Super AMOLED, while the Y51 Pro has a slightly larger screen and a higher stated refresh rate. Those are different advantages: resolution concerns image detail, panel type affects how the display produces its image, and refresh rate describes how often it can update. A 120Hz rating by itself does not mean the vivo screen is sharper or that its overall display quality is better.

Battery capacity and charging: what the figures do and do not tell you
vivo lists a 7200mAh battery and 44W charging; Samsung lists a 5000mAh typical battery and 25W charging. The Y51 Pro therefore has the larger stated capacity and higher rated charging power, but those figures cannot establish actual screen-on time or charging duration. No independent, like-for-like battery test is established by the cited sources.

Camera hardware is not a photo-quality verdict
Samsung lists a three-camera rear setup: a 50MP main camera with optical image stabilization (OIS), a 5MP ultrawide and a 2MP macro camera. vivo lists a 50MP main and 2MP secondary rear camera, plus an 8MP front camera; its product page also advertises 4K video recording. These are manufacturer-listed specifications and claims, not comparative evidence about image quality, low-light results or video stabilization. The cited materials do not establish an independent head-to-head camera test.

Durability and software support
Water and dust ratings
The Y51 Pro lists IP68 and IP69 ratings, while the A17 lists IP54. These ratings distinguish the phones’ stated levels of ingress protection, but they are not proof that a device is damage-proof. Follow each manufacturer’s usage and warranty guidance rather than treating a rating as permission to expose a phone to any conditions.

Samsung states that the A17 receives six generations of Android upgrades and six years of security updates measured from its first global launch date. Samsung’s India product page gives a security-update period through 31 August 2031. vivo’s cited product page identifies Android 16 and OriginOS 6 but does not give a comparable update duration; that omission on the cited page does not establish that no separate policy exists.

The ₹16,000 difference between the A17 8GB + 128GB launch price and the Y51 Pro 8GB + 128GB shop listing is arithmetic, not a current like-for-like street-price gap: the references come from different dates and price contexts. Check current prices for the same storage tier and available seller before deciding which is better value. Offers, stock and variant availability can change.
