Samsung’s cited U.S. reference prices differ by $350, but they come from separate announcements and are not a same-day comparison of current retail prices.

What is the actual price difference?
The cited U.S. figures are $199.99 for an unlocked 128GB Galaxy A17 5G Black in Samsung Electronics America’s March 2026 MSRP list and a $549.99 starting price for the Galaxy A57 5G in Samsung’s U.S. launch announcement. Subtracting those particular reference prices gives a $350 difference; it does not establish the current checkout gap between comparable configurations.
The figures come from different source documents and may not represent like-for-like storage or a current promotion. Samsung’s A57 announcement said U.S. availability would begin April 9, 2026, with the unlocked offer in Awesome Navy through Samsung Experience Stores and Samsung.com. Tax, trade-ins, discounts, carrier offers, storage options, and stock affect what buyers actually pay. Compare the same country, storage class, and purchase conditions before deciding whether the A57’s premium is worthwhile.

Where the A57 improves on the A17
Smoother display and quicker rated charging
The two phones share a 6.7-inch FHD+ Super AMOLED format, so screen size and panel type do not separate them in Samsung’s cited guide. The A57’s 120Hz refresh rate is higher than the A17’s 90Hz and can make scrolling and supported animations look smoother. Samsung lists 1,900-nit peak brightness for the A57; the cited A17 specifications do not establish a comparable brightness figure.

Higher-resolution secondary cameras
Samsung lists the same 50MP main-camera resolution with optical image stabilization on both phones. The A57 has a 12MP ultrawide and 5MP macro camera, while the A17 has a 5MP ultrawide and 2MP macro. The resolution difference alone does not prove that the A57 takes better photos; the cited sources do not provide controlled comparative camera testing.

Higher water-and-dust rating
Samsung’s U.K. launch announcement gives the A57 an IP68 rating, compared with IP54 for the A17. These ratings describe different levels of tested ingress protection, not immunity to every spill, immersion, dust exposure, or accident. They do not guarantee that water or impact damage will be covered by a warranty.
Where the A17 may be the better fit
Lower official U.S. reference price
The cited Samsung price references position the A17 below the A57, though buyers should use current same-market, same-storage offers to determine the real difference. If the A17’s 90Hz screen and 25W charging meet your needs, paying more for the A57’s refinements may not be necessary.
