For India-market buyers, the Redmi Note 15 SE 5G has the stronger listed display, battery capacity and charging specification; the Galaxy A17 5G counters with optical image stabilization (OIS), more rear cameras, greater microSD expansion and a longer stated OS-upgrade commitment. The storefront prices differ by ₹1,000 in the snapshots available, but they are not confirmed prices for matching configurations.

How the differences affect everyday use
Display: 120 Hz versus 90 Hz
The Redmi’s listed refresh rate reaches 120 Hz, compared with 90 Hz for the Galaxy. A higher refresh rate can make compatible scrolling and animations look smoother, but the listed figures do not establish measured brightness, image quality or how much difference you will notice in a particular app.

Cameras: stabilization versus camera count
The Galaxy has three listed rear cameras and specifies OIS for its rear camera. OIS can help reduce camera shake, particularly when your hands move during a shot. The Redmi lists a 50 MP main camera and a 2 MP depth camera, plus 4K/30 fps video recording. Camera count and resolution alone do not establish which phone takes better photos or video overall.
Battery and charging: larger listed capacity on the Redmi
Xiaomi lists a 5,800 mAh typical battery and 45 W charging, with an adapter included according to its India specification page. Samsung lists a 5,000 mAh battery and up to 18 hours of video playback; that playback figure is a manufacturer claim, not a comparable independent endurance test. Capacity and charging ratings do not guarantee a particular runtime or charging time, which can vary with use and conditions.

Ingress protection: ratings are not a waterproof guarantee
The Galaxy is rated IP54, while the Redmi is listed as IP65 + IP66 under laboratory conditions. These ratings indicate tested resistance to dust and water exposure, not immunity to every spill, immersion or environment. Samsung says protection is not permanent and advises against beach or pool use. Xiaomi cautions that conditions differ from normal use, protection may degrade, and liquid damage outside testing conditions is excluded from warranty coverage.

Samsung lists microSD expansion up to 2 TB; Xiaomi lists expansion up to 1 TB. Both use a hybrid SIM arrangement, so adding a memory card may mean using the slot that would otherwise hold a second SIM. Check the exact configuration and tray arrangement if you need two active SIMs and expandable storage.

Software support: compare the wording carefully
Samsung states six generations of OS upgrades and six years of security updates, counted from the first global launch date, and notes that the policy may change. Xiaomi advertises four years of OS updates and six years of security patches. “Generations” and “years” are different ways of expressing OS support, so the stated commitments are not perfectly interchangeable. Confirm the policy for the particular India model if update duration is a deciding factor.
India prices and the ₹1,000 difference
The manufacturer-store snapshots available for this comparison list ₹26,999 for the Galaxy A17 5G in 6 GB/128 GB and a starting price of ₹25,999 for the Redmi Note 15 SE 5G. The visible gap is ₹1,000, with the Redmi starting lower. Samsung’s listing also shows an MRP of ₹32,999; Xiaomi’s catalogue shows a marketing price of ₹34,999.

Which phone should you choose?
- Consider the Redmi Note 15 SE 5G if its listed 120 Hz display, larger typical battery, 45 W charging and higher stated IP rating are your priorities. Its India specification page lists the charging adapter in the box.
- Consider the Galaxy A17 5G if OIS, a three-camera rear array, microSD support up to 2 TB or Samsung’s stated six OS-upgrade generations matter more to you.
- Compare exact variants before paying if price is the deciding factor: the listed ₹1,000 gap does not compare confirmed matching configurations.
Neither specification sheet establishes which model is faster in real use, produces better photos, or lasts longer on a charge. Those judgments require direct, comparable testing.
