The Galaxy A-series is Samsung’s mid-range and entry-level smartphone family, not one fixed worldwide lineup. In Samsung’s 2026 comparison, the Galaxy A17, A27, A37 and A57 form a clear progression: the A17 is the basic model, the A27 adds a smoother display and 4K video, the A37 adds faster charging and more memory options, and the A57 is the top specification with a Super AMOLED Plus display and the strongest listed ultra-wide camera. Samsung’s US sales page shows a different set by listing the A26 instead of the A27, so the exact model, storage and features must be checked for your country before you buy.
What the Galaxy A-series is
Samsung uses the Galaxy A name for phones below its flagship S-series. The family is tiered rather than uniform: a higher number generally brings more capable hardware, but the number alone does not tell you every regional specification. Samsung can sell a different A-series selection, memory configuration or storage limit in another market.
That distinction matters in 2026. Samsung’s US support comparison covers the Galaxy A17, A27, A37 and A57, while Samsung’s US Galaxy A-series product page displays the A17, A26, A37 and A57. Do not treat those pages as a single global catalog or assume that an A27 specification applies to an A26.
The most useful way to compare the phones is to look at the display refresh rate, storage expansion, charging speed, camera hardware and software features. All four models in Samsung’s 2026 support table use a 5,000mAh battery, so battery capacity by itself does not explain the price steps.

- Please note, this device does not support E-SIM; This 4G model is compatible with all GSM networks worldwide outside of the U.S. In the US, ONLY compatible with T-Mobile and their MVNO's (Metro and Standup). It will NOT work with other CDMA carriers, and it is also not compatible with their MVNO (Visible, Xfinity Mobile, US Mobile, Cricket Wireless, etc).
- Compatibility with certain third-party devices and accessibility accessories, including some hearing aids, may vary depending on manufacturer support, Bluetooth protocols, software compatibility, and regional firmware limitations. For additional hearing aid compatibility information, please refer to Samsung’s official support documentation.

Samsung also lists a 13MP front camera for the A17 and 12MP front cameras for the A27, A37 and A57. Its comparison specifies digital zoom of up to 10x. Those are specification-sheet figures, not a laboratory ranking of image quality.
How the models differ in daily use
Galaxy A17: the entry point
The A17 is the sensible low-cost choice when you want a large AMOLED screen, a 5,000mAh battery and expandable storage without paying for higher-tier features. Its 90Hz refresh rate is above the 60Hz standard used by many inexpensive phones, but it is less fluid than the 120Hz panels on the other three phones in Samsung’s comparison. It also has the smallest listed memory configuration, a 25W charging limit and FHD rather than 4K video recording.
Its microSD slot can be valuable if you keep downloaded video, music or photos on the phone. The camera layout still includes an ultra-wide and macro camera, although the listed resolutions are lower than on the A37 and A57. Choose it when price and removable storage matter more than faster charging, extra RAM or 4K capture.
Galaxy A27: smoother screen and 4K video with expandable storage
The A27 keeps the A17’s 25W charging and microSD support but moves to a 120Hz display and adds UHD 4K recording at 30fps. It is therefore the most interesting step for someone who wants a visibly smoother interface or intends to record higher-resolution video while still using a memory card.
Samsung lists the same 50MP main, 5MP ultra-wide and 2MP macro rear-camera arrangement as the A17. The main differences are the screen refresh rate, 6GB rather than 4GB of listed RAM, 4K video and the Infinity-O front-camera cutout. Whether those changes justify the price depends on the local gap between the two models.

Galaxy A37: faster charging and a more flexible configuration
The A37 is the point at which Samsung’s table changes several practical specifications at once. It supports up to 45W wired charging, offers either 6GB/128GB or 8GB/256GB, and upgrades the ultra-wide and macro cameras to 8MP and 5MP. It retains a 120Hz display and 4K/30fps recording.
The trade-off is permanent storage only: Samsung’s comparison gives the A37 no microSD slot. If you routinely fill a phone with games, offline maps or 4K clips, select the 256GB version where it is sold; you cannot plan on adding a card later. If you charge in short bursts and value the higher-resolution secondary cameras, the A37 is a more substantial upgrade than the A27’s display change alone.

Samsung positions the A57 above the A37. Both phones have 120Hz displays, 45W charging, 4K/30fps video and no card slot, but the A57 uses a Super AMOLED Plus panel and lists a 12MP ultra-wide instead of the A37’s 8MP unit. Both have a 5MP macro camera and the same two storage choices, so the camera and display distinction is the main hardware reason to move up.
The A57 is also the only model in Samsung’s comparison identified with Best face and Auto Trim features. Those software labels describe Samsung’s advertised capabilities; they are not independent evidence that the A57 will produce better photographs in every lighting condition. Pay the premium when you regularly use the ultra-wide camera, want the top listed display specification or specifically need those additional editing tools.
Display: 90Hz versus 120Hz
Every model in the comparison has a 6.7-inch FHD+ Super AMOLED-class screen. The A17 uses a 90Hz refresh rate, while the A27, A37 and A57 use 120Hz. A higher refresh rate can make scrolling, compatible animations and supported games look smoother, although it may use more power in situations where the phone is drawing frames continuously.

The A17’s Infinity-U and the other models’ Infinity-O labels describe the front-camera cutout design. The A57 is the only one Samsung identifies as Super AMOLED Plus. These names should not be read as a measured brightness or color-quality ranking; Samsung’s comparison does not provide independent display testing.
Storage and memory: decide before ordering
Storage expansion is one of the clearest dividing lines. Samsung’s support comparison says the A17 and A27 accept microSD cards up to 2TB, while the A37 and A57 have no external card support. The card capacity is a stated maximum; actual usable space depends on the card, formatting and the phone’s software.
The listed RAM and storage combinations also change by tier:
- A17: 4GB RAM with 128GB storage.
- A27: 6GB RAM with 128GB storage.
- A37: 6GB/128GB or 8GB/256GB.
- A57: 8GB/128GB or 8GB/256GB.
Samsung’s US product page displays a different expansion statement for its regional listings: it says up to 1TB for the A17 and A26. That conflict is not a typo you should resolve by guessing. Check the exact model code and the local product page, then buy the storage capacity you will need because a card may not be supported on the A37 or A57.
Battery and charging
Samsung lists a 5,000mAh battery for all four phones in the 2026 support table. The charging limit separates the lower and upper tiers: the A17 and A27 are listed at up to 25W wired charging, while the A37 and A57 are listed at up to 45W.

None of the four models supports wireless charging or Wireless PowerShare according to Samsung’s comparison. “Up to” describes the phone’s maximum wired rate under compatible conditions; the charger, cable, temperature, battery level and regional bundle can affect the result. A larger charging number does not prove longer battery life, because endurance also depends on display settings, network conditions, apps and usage.
Cameras and video
All four phones use a 50MP main rear camera in Samsung’s table, but the supporting cameras differ. The A17 and A27 pair it with a 5MP ultra-wide and 2MP macro camera. The A37 raises those to 8MP and 5MP. The A57 keeps the 5MP macro camera and raises the ultra-wide to 12MP.
The A17 records up to FHD at 30fps in the comparison. The A27, A37 and A57 record UHD 4K at 30fps. Front-camera resolution is 13MP on the A17 and 12MP on the other three. Samsung lists digital zoom up to 10x across the comparison, but digital zoom enlarges a crop rather than adding optical detail.
These specifications help identify who benefits from each tier: the A27 is the least expensive model in this table with 4K recording, the A37 adds higher-resolution supporting cameras, and the A57 has the highest listed ultra-wide resolution. They do not establish which phone takes the best image in night scenes, moving subjects or skin tones, because no controlled image-quality test is part of Samsung’s specification table.

Samsung’s US family page says its devices receive six years of security and software updates. Samsung’s March 25, 2026 announcement says the A57 and A37 receive up to six generations of OS upgrades and long-term security support. “Up to” and the model scope matter: these statements do not provide a guaranteed calendar of every future release, and availability can vary by market or carrier.

The 2026 comparison lists Gemini and Circle to Search on the A17, A27, A37 and A57. It lists Object Eraser, AI Select, My Filters and Edit Suggestion on the A27, A37 and A57, with some features limited on the A27 and A37. Best face and Auto Trim are identified as A57-only in that table. Feature availability can depend on software version, region and configuration.
In its March 25, 2026 announcement, Samsung says the A57 and A37 run One UI 8.5 and highlights Voice Transcription, AI Select, Object Eraser, Circle to Search and Gemini-related functions. Samsung’s TM Roh described the phones as delivering “reliable everyday performance” and driving “rapid AI expansion”; that is an official company statement, not an independent performance test.

Which Galaxy A-series phone should you buy?
Choose the A17 when cost and expandable storage come first
- You want the least expensive entry in the US lineup snapshot.
- You need a microSD slot and can accept the lower listed RAM, 90Hz display and FHD video ceiling.
- Your everyday use is messaging, web browsing, streaming and ordinary photos rather than intensive video capture.
Choose the A27 when you want 120Hz and 4K without giving up a card slot
- You notice smoother scrolling and want the 120Hz panel.
- You plan to record 4K/30fps video.
- You still want microSD expansion and do not need 45W charging.
Choose the A37 when charging speed, memory and supporting cameras matter
- You can live without removable storage.
- You want up to 45W wired charging and an 8GB/256GB option where available.
- You use the ultra-wide or macro camera often enough to value the listed resolution upgrades.
Choose the A57 when you want the top listed A-series hardware
- You prefer Samsung’s Super AMOLED Plus designation and the highest listed ultra-wide resolution.
- You want 8GB RAM, 4K video, 45W charging and the A57-only Best face and Auto Trim features in the comparison.
- The local price premium over the A37 is acceptable and you do not require a memory-card slot.
Buying checklist for any region
- Open the local Samsung product page. Confirm that the model is actually sold in your country; the A27/A26 difference shows why a US support table is not a universal catalog.
- Record the exact model code and storage. Two phones with the same family name can have different memory-card limits or bundled configurations.
- Check expansion before choosing capacity. Select a larger internal-storage option for an A37 or A57 if you expect to keep large games, offline media or 4K clips.
- Verify the charger separately. The phones have different maximum wired rates, and the box contents or compatible charger can vary by market.
- Match camera specifications to your use. Decide whether FHD is sufficient, whether 4K matters, and how often you use an ultra-wide lens rather than judging only by the 50MP main-camera number.
- Check software availability at purchase. AI functions can depend on the installed software, region and configuration even when Samsung lists them for the model.
- Compare the final local price. Use the configured storage version, taxes, promotions and trade-in terms rather than relying on a displayed starting price from another country.
Bottom line
The Galaxy A-series progression is easiest to understand as a set of trade-offs. The A17 prioritizes entry price and card expansion; the A27 adds 120Hz and 4K while retaining those advantages; the A37 introduces 45W charging, higher-tier memory options and upgraded supporting cameras; and the A57 adds Samsung’s top listed A-series display and ultra-wide specification. Because Samsung’s model list and expansion limits vary by market, the right final step is always to verify the exact regional variant rather than buying by the A-series number alone.
