To put a water filter in a Samsung fridge, first match the cartridge to your refrigerator model, then remove the old filter, fit and lock the replacement, flush it, and reset the filter reminder. Filter locations, cartridge types, flush directions, and reset controls vary by model, so check your refrigerator’s manual before you start.
Before you start: identify the right filter
Samsung uses different water-filter types across refrigerator models. Check your refrigerator’s model number and confirm which cartridge it requires, or read the part number printed on the existing filter. HAF-CIN, HAF-QIN, and HAFCU1 are examples of Samsung filter types, not interchangeable options. Use Samsung’s filter replacement guidance or Canadian instructions to find the compatibility information for your model.
Do not force a cartridge that will not fit or lock. Recheck the refrigerator model and filter part number before continuing. Samsung also warns in its owner-manual material that unapproved filters may leak and damage the refrigerator.

Shut off the water and relieve pressure
Turn off the refrigerator’s water supply. Dispense water until the flow stops to relieve pressure before removing the old cartridge, as Samsung advises in its Canadian replacement instructions.

Find the filter and remove the old cartridge
The filter compartment’s location depends on the refrigerator. If you cannot find it, check the user manual for your model.
For HAF-CIN and HAF-QIN cartridges, open the cover and rotate the old filter counterclockwise until it unlocks, then pull it out. For HAFCU1, twist the cartridge left to unlock it and pull it down. Keep a towel nearby in case a few drops spill.

Insert and lock the replacement
Remove the new cartridge’s protective cap and insert the filter into its housing. Turn it clockwise until it locks. For HAF-CIN and HAF-QIN, align the lock mark with the housing indicator. For HAFCU1, align the notch with the arrow on the housing. If the marks do not line up or the cartridge resists, stop and verify that it is the correct filter for your refrigerator.

Restore the water supply and flush the filter
Turn the water supply back on and dispense water to flush the new cartridge. Follow the directions for your refrigerator and region; Samsung’s support pages specify different amounts:

Reset the filter reminder
Use the reset method specified for your refrigerator. Depending on the model, it may involve holding a labeled button for three seconds, pressing a combination of buttons, or using an on-screen menu. Samsung notes that the control and method vary; consult your model’s manual or the support instructions rather than assuming one button sequence applies.
When should you replace the filter?
Samsung gives six months as a general replacement interval, but says local water quality and how much water you dispense can affect timing. Decreased water flow can also be a sign that the filter may need replacing. Treat the interval as a reminder, not a guarantee that every filter will perform identically for six months.

If the new filter will not fit or the old one is stuck
- The new cartridge will not fit or lock: Stop rather than forcing it. Confirm the refrigerator model and cartridge part number; Samsung says filter types vary by model.
- The old filter is difficult to remove: Shut off the water supply and dispense until flow stops to relieve pressure, then try the model-specific removal method again.
- You are unsure about the filter location or reset control: Check the user manual for the exact refrigerator model, since compartment locations and control-panel procedures differ.
