Yes—applying for the legacy Samsung Financing account issued by TD Bank involved a credit check. Samsung’s application terms authorized TD Bank to obtain consumer reports, but the official materials do not say whether that application inquiry was hard or soft. The account could no longer be used for purchases after December 31, 2024, according to TD Bank. Samsung’s current U.S. checkout pages also list other pay-over-time options, including Affirm and Klarna, whose inquiry terms are not established by the cited Samsung pages.
What the credit-check answer means
Samsung’s legacy FAQ states that applying for the TD Bank-issued Samsung Financing account required a credit check. The application terms authorized TD Bank to gather credit, employment, and other information, including consumer reports, to evaluate an application. Those terms also allowed additional consumer-report requests after approval for legitimate account purposes such as account review, a credit-line increase, or collection.
That confirms a credit review, but it does not establish the inquiry type. The application terms do not call it a hard or soft inquiry. TD Bank’s general explanation says lenders typically use hard inquiries for new-credit applications, but that general guidance is not a product-specific classification of the Samsung application. TD Bank says the Samsung Financing account could no longer be used for purchases after December 31, 2024. Samsung’s current U.S. payment pages present financing and installment choices, including Affirm and Klarna, while some Samsung pages still contain information about the older TD Bank account. The pages reviewed do not clearly establish whether a new customer can still apply for that legacy account. Do not assume a current checkout option is the same account.

Samsung’s TD Bank account page gives the purchase cutoff. Samsung’s payment-method page and financing page describe options surfaced for checkout. The provider and terms shown for a particular purchase may depend on the offer.
How current checkout options differ from the legacy account

Samsung says Affirm options can depend on eligibility, purchase amount, location, and potentially a down payment. The available terms and even the provider presented can differ by offer. Review the live checkout disclosure before submitting an application rather than transferring the legacy TD account’s credit-check description to another provider.

Does Samsung Financing report payments to credit bureaus?
Samsung’s legacy FAQ says payment history on the TD Bank-issued account appears on a consumer credit report. It does not identify the bureau or bureaus, specify when reporting occurs, or establish the reporting practices of current Affirm or Klarna checkout options. For an installment option, use the provider’s own current disclosures to determine whether and how account activity is reported.

The figures below are example terms on that FAQ, not confirmation of offers currently available; Samsung says offer terms may be limited-time and product-specific. Check the actual checkout disclosure for the purchase you are considering.

The same legacy FAQ lists a 29.99% standard purchase APR. That is a figure shown on the legacy page, not a guarantee of current terms. Read the offer’s APR, promotional period, payment amount, and deadline before accepting it. The FAQ is at Samsung Financing FAQ.
What to check before you submit an application
- Identify the provider and account. Confirm whether checkout is offering a TD Bank account or an installment plan through another provider.
- Read the credit disclosure. Look for whether the application uses a hard or soft inquiry, and whether the provider may access reports later for account servicing. If the disclosure does not make the inquiry type clear, do not infer it from Samsung’s legacy TD Bank FAQ.
- Check the repayment mechanics. Distinguish equal-payment 0% APR from deferred interest, and confirm the amount, term, deadline, and APR that apply to this specific offer.
- Review eligibility and reporting terms. Check any purchase, location, product, down-payment, or approval conditions, and consult the provider’s own explanation of credit reporting.
Do not confuse consumer and business financing
Samsung Business Financing is a separate product described by Samsung as powered by Credit Key. Its business eligibility requirements and terms do not establish the credit-check or repayment rules for consumer Samsung checkout options. See the Samsung Business FAQ for that separate program.
