To check for newer emojis on a Samsung Galaxy phone, update the phone’s software and Samsung Keyboard separately: check Settings > Software update, then check Galaxy Store > Menu > Updates. Neither route guarantees new emojis; Samsung does not document a universal emoji-refresh button, and update availability and contents vary by device and carrier.
Which update should you check?
System software and Samsung Keyboard are updated through separate routes. Check the phone’s software for system-level changes; check Galaxy Store for a Samsung Keyboard app update. Review the update information before assuming either update includes an emoji change.
| Update route | Where to check | What to know |
|---|---|---|
| Galaxy system software | Settings > Software update or System updates | May include device feature changes. Availability and contents vary by model, carrier, region, and software version; review the update details. Samsung’s update guide explains the process. |
| Samsung Keyboard app | Galaxy Store > Menu > Updates | Checks for a keyboard app update, but an available update does not necessarily add emojis. See Samsung’s Galaxy Store app-update instructions. |
How do I update my emojis on Samsung?
Check for a system software update
- Open Settings and tap Software update. Depending on the device or carrier, the entry may be called System updates.
- Tap Download and install, Check for updates, or the equivalent option shown on your screen. Labels vary by device and carrier.
- If an update is offered, read its details and follow the on-screen prompts. The phone may restart and be unavailable while installing; follow any instructions about Wi-Fi or repeating the update check.
To see your installed software version, open Settings > About phone (or About tablet) > Software information. Samsung also explains how to view update details or history in its software update guide.

How do I find and use emojis on Samsung Keyboard?
Open an app with a text field to display Samsung Keyboard, then tap its emoji control in the keyboard toolbar. Samsung says the toolbar can also include stickers, GIFs, and other tools, but available options vary. Open keyboard settings from the toolbar’s gear icon or search Settings for Samsung Keyboard. The steps here apply to Samsung Keyboard, not necessarily to a third-party keyboard. See Samsung’s keyboard settings guide.
Why don’t I have the new emojis yet?
- No update is offered: That means no update is currently available to your device through that update screen. It does not establish that every Galaxy model has the same emoji set or rollout timing.
- An update installed but nothing looks different: The update may not include an emoji change. Check its details rather than assuming it does.
- Another Galaxy phone shows different options: Menus and update availability can differ by model, carrier, software version, and region. Samsung notes that “Available screens and settings may vary by wireless service provider, software version, and phone model.”
- You use another keyboard: Samsung Keyboard’s toolbar and settings instructions may not apply; check the settings and update route for the keyboard you actually use.
Emoji artwork can also look different across platforms and apps. Samsung’s support information does not establish one release timetable or a guaranteed feature set for every Galaxy device.

What did Samsung say about emoji pairs in One UI 5.1.1?
Samsung’s One UI 5.1.1 feature page described 88 new emojis and 10 new animations that could be combined into emoji pairs in Samsung Keyboard. Those figures refer to that specific software feature, not to the number of emojis in a current update or a promise that every Galaxy phone will receive it.
