Samsung is broadening its manufacturing footprint rather than abandoning Vietnam. India is taking on more smartphone production and product-development work, including some phones for the US market, while Vietnam remains a major export and revenue hub. In parallel, Samsung plans to convert all manufacturing operations to AI-Driven Factories by 2030.
The combination is designed to reduce dependence on any single site, identify production problems earlier and keep shipments moving during regional disruptions. It does not, by itself, guarantee lower Galaxy prices, faster delivery or a specific phone model being assembled in one country.
What Samsung has announced
Samsung’s manufacturing strategy has two connected parts. The first is geographic diversification: its India strategy says the next decade will bring more products built and designed in India, including smartphones. A Samsung executive has also said that some smartphones bound for the United States are already made at the company’s India factory.

The second is an overhaul of factory operations. In February 2026, Samsung announced a goal of transitioning all manufacturing operations to “AI-Driven Factories” by 2030. The plan covers the flow from incoming materials through production, inspection and final shipment, using digital-twin simulations and specialized artificial-intelligence agents.

YoungSoo Lee, Samsung Executive Vice President and Head of Global Technology Research, described the objective this way: “The next phase of manufacturing innovation lies in building autonomous environments where AI truly understands operational contexts in real time and independently executes optimal decisions.”
India is growing, but Vietnam is not being replaced
The public evidence supports selective diversification across Samsung’s network, not a confirmed complete move of phone production out of Vietnam.

Vietnam Government News reported that Samsung’s Vietnamese mobile-phone entities reached US$500 billion in cumulative exports by the end of June 2026. It also reported approximately US$35.2 billion in first-half 2026 revenue for Samsung manufacturing units in Vietnam, a 21% year-over-year increase. Those figures make a sudden Vietnam exit inconsistent with the scale of the business still operating there.

How the AI-Driven Factory plan is supposed to work
Digital twins for pre-validation
A digital twin is a software representation of a production line or process. Samsung says simulations will allow teams to test changes and detect constraints before they are introduced on a live line. That can reduce the time spent discovering a layout, scheduling or process problem after equipment and materials are already committed.
Specialized AI agents
Rather than one general system handling every task, Samsung’s plan uses specialized agents for operational decisions. The company describes these systems as working across real-time factory context, with the intended result of automatically selecting or executing better responses when conditions change.
One connected flow from materials to shipment
The scope is broader than robotic assembly. Samsung lists inbound-material logistics, manufacturing, quality inspection and final shipment. Connecting those stages could help a factory spot a component delay, adjust production priorities, identify a quality anomaly and coordinate dispatch without waiting for separate manual handoffs.

Quality, productivity and safety goals
Samsung says the approach is intended to improve pre-validation, quality, efficiency, productivity and workplace safety. These are goals for the 2030 transition, not a claim that every Samsung factory already operates autonomously.
Why multiple manufacturing sites can reduce bottlenecks
Capacity can shift when one site is constrained
If a disruption affects a plant, transport route or local supplier cluster, production distributed across countries gives Samsung more options than a single-country footprint. The practical benefit depends on whether another site has compatible tooling, trained staff, component supply and available capacity; simply having a second factory does not make every model interchangeable.
Problems can be detected before they become shipment delays
Digital-twin validation and AI-assisted inspection are aimed at finding process or quality issues earlier. Earlier detection can limit rework and prevent a defective batch from moving to later stages, although Samsung has not published a specific reduction in defects or delay time.

Samsung says near-term disruptions have been avoided
In a government-hosted 2025 report, Samsung Mobile Experience COO Won-Joon Choi said: “We have long been seeking diversification so I can tell you that for the near-term, there has been no production disruptions.” The same report states that Samsung was already manufacturing some smartphones bound for the United States at its India factory. This is evidence of an operating diversification effort, not a promise that future disruptions are impossible.

Prices
Changing the assembly country does not automatically make a Galaxy phone cheaper. Retail prices also reflect components, memory and display costs, exchange rates, taxes, shipping, channel margins and Samsung’s product strategy. No model-specific cost reduction has been announced.

Availability
A broader network could make supply more resilient, but availability remains model- and region-specific. Samsung has not published a complete country-of-assembly map for each Galaxy model, so a buyer cannot infer an individual phone’s factory solely from the company’s India strategy or Vietnam scale.

Reliability and quality
AI inspection and connected production systems are intended to improve consistency, yet a manufacturing-location change alone does not prove that one version of a phone is more reliable than another. Product quality depends on design, components, process controls and testing across the entire supply chain.
What is still unknown
- Samsung has not publicly provided a model-by-model split showing which Galaxy phones are made in India, Vietnam or other countries.
- No public timetable identifies when a particular plant will complete its AI-Driven Factory transition.
- The company has not stated how much production capacity will move between India and Vietnam.
- No verified evidence establishes that these changes will lower a specific retail price or shorten delivery time for a particular region.
How to interpret the strategy
Samsung is building redundancy rather than choosing a single replacement for Vietnam. India is becoming more important for smartphones and product development, while Vietnam remains a financially significant manufacturing center. The AI-Driven Factory program adds process-level resilience by linking logistics, production, inspection and shipping, with completion targeted for 2030.
For customers, the sensible expectation is steadier supply over time, not an immediate change in every Galaxy phone’s price, origin or performance. Those details will remain dependent on the specific model, market and factory allocation Samsung announces.
