Yes—some Samsung dishwashers have a Heated Dry option, but it is not standard across the entire range. Samsung says most of its dishwashers use condensation drying, while certain models add a heater or another drying option. The only reliable way to know is to check the complete model code in the owner’s manual or official specification.

For example, Samsung’s DW80CG4051 specification lists Heated Dry among its options. That confirms the feature for that model, not for every Samsung dishwasher.

What “heated dry” means on a Samsung dishwasher

Heated Dry is a drying option that activates a heater during the drying portion of the cycle. It is separate from Samsung’s standard condensation-drying process and from features that simply extend drying time or open the door.

Samsung’s US support information says most of its dishwashers use condensing dry technology. During condensation drying, hot water becomes steam, then condenses on the cooler stainless-steel interior walls. Water runs down those walls while remaining droplets evaporate as air circulates. Dishes are not necessarily exposed to a dedicated drying heater.

Some Samsung models add Heated Dry, but the option is model-dependent. Samsung’s general cycle-and-setting guidance also groups Heated Dry and Dry+ among settings that vary by model, so a control panel that has one option does not imply that another model has it.

Samsung drying options at a glance

Option How Samsung describes it Availability or qualification
Condensation drying Steam from hot water condenses on cooler stainless-steel walls; circulating air helps remaining droplets evaporate. Used by most Samsung dishwashers described in Samsung’s US support guidance.
Heated Dry A heater operates during drying. Available on some models. The DW80CG4051 specification lists it as an option.
Dry+ Samsung Canada defines this as raising the final-rinse temperature and extending drying time. Model-dependent; the exact behavior is controlled by the model’s manual.
AutoRelease Dry On supported models, the door opens during the final 5–15 minutes after the temperature falls below 122°F, and an internal fan helps move air and protect the countertop from moisture. Available only on supported models and not interchangeable with Heated Dry.

The names are not interchangeable. Heated Dry means a heater is used during drying; Dry+ changes the final rinse and cycle duration; AutoRelease Dry changes how air enters the tub near the end of the cycle.

How to check whether your exact Samsung model has Heated Dry

Do not rely on the appearance of a similar Samsung control panel or on the product family name. Use the full model code, because options can differ by model, market and production series.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.
  1. Find the complete model code. Look on the appliance label, usually around the door opening or on the side of the tub, or check your purchase documents. Record every letter and number.
  2. Open Samsung’s support page for that model. Select the owner’s manual or the product specification rather than relying only on a retailer’s abbreviated feature list.
  3. Search the specification and manual for “Heated Dry.” Also search for “Dry+” and “AutoRelease Dry,” because a model may use one of these alternatives instead of a heater.
  4. Read the control instructions. The manual should show whether the option is selected before starting a cycle, which cycles allow it, and whether selecting it changes the cycle time.
  5. Match the documentation to your region. Samsung publishes regional guidance, and a feature described for a Canadian, Korean or other market should not be assumed to exist on a US model with a similar name.

If the manual does not list Heated Dry, treat the dishwasher as a condensation-drying model even if the dishes feel warm at the end. If the manual does not mention AutoRelease Dry, Samsung says the model does not have that feature.

Example: DW80CG4051

Samsung’s official DW80CG4051 specification lists four options, including Heated Dry. This is useful confirmation when the full model code is DW80CG4051. It is not evidence that every DW80-series or every Samsung dishwasher includes the same option.

Heated Dry, Dry+ and AutoRelease Dry: what is different?

Heated Dry

Heated Dry adds heat during the drying stage. It is the setting to look for when your goal is specifically a heater-assisted dry cycle. Whether it can be used with every wash cycle, and how it is enabled, depends on the model manual.

Dry+

Samsung Canada describes Dry+ differently from Heated Dry: Dry+ raises the final-rinse temperature and extends drying time. That can provide more time and heat for evaporation without being the same control as a heater operating through the drying stage.

Because Samsung’s terminology and controls are model-dependent, use the definition in your own manual. Do not infer the operation from the word “plus” or from another model’s buttons.

AutoRelease Dry

AutoRelease Dry is an airflow feature. On supported models, the door opens in the final 5–15 minutes, after the internal temperature drops below 122°F. Samsung says an internal fan runs to help protect the countertop from moisture while allowing air to circulate.

AutoRelease Dry can appear on a dishwasher that does not have Heated Dry, and Heated Dry can exist without AutoRelease Dry. Check for each feature separately in the specification and manual.

Why dishes can still be wet without a fault

Condensation drying naturally leaves some items wetter than others. Plastic cups, containers and lids cool quickly, so water does not evaporate from them as readily as it does from warm glassware or metal. Water can also remain on recessed surfaces, the underside of mugs and tightly nested items.

Samsung’s drying guidance recommends several operating changes before assuming the dishwasher needs repair.

Use rinse aid

Samsung says rinse aid supports its condensation-drying process by helping water condense, run off and evaporate. Fill the rinse-aid dispenser according to the manual and adjust the dispenser setting only within the range your model provides. Rinse aid is a drying aid; it does not prove that your dishwasher has Heated Dry.

Load for drainage

Angle cups, bowls and other hollow items so water can run off instead of pooling. Keep dishes from touching one another where possible, and check that tall items are not blocking the spray arms. Place plastics where they can drain freely rather than in a depression that collects water.

Confirm the incoming-water temperature

Samsung’s US troubleshooting guidance recommends connecting the dishwasher to a hot-water line with the household supply set between 120°F and 149°F. This is operating guidance, not a comparative performance test. Follow local plumbing and appliance instructions when checking the supply temperature.

Open the door after the cycle

Samsung recommends opening the door about one inch within an hour after the cycle finishes. This allows humid air to escape and can help remaining droplets evaporate. If your model has AutoRelease Dry, let that feature complete its automatic opening instead of forcing the door during a cycle.

Check whether the selected cycle enables the option

On models with Heated Dry or Dry+, the setting may be unavailable for certain cycles or may need to be selected each time. Verify the indicator on the control panel and compare it with the manual’s cycle chart.

A practical troubleshooting sequence for wet dishes

  1. Identify the wet items. If mostly plastics are wet while glass and metal are dry, the result is consistent with condensation drying and rapid cooling of plastic.
  2. Check the rinse-aid reservoir. Refill it if empty and confirm that the dispenser is not set to an unusually low level.
  3. Inspect loading. Separate nested items, tilt containers and make sure spray arms can rotate.
  4. Verify the hot-water supply. Samsung’s suggested household range is 120–149°F.
  5. Use the model’s available drying setting. Select Heated Dry or Dry+ only if the manual lists it for that cycle.
  6. Vent the tub after completion. Open the door approximately one inch within an hour, unless AutoRelease Dry already performs that step.
  7. Compare results over several properly loaded cycles. A single load dominated by plastics or deep containers is not a reliable test of the drying system.
  8. Consult the manual or service support if basic checks fail. Persistent water on all materials, a missing heater function that the manual promises, or an error code warrants model-specific service guidance.

How to compare two Samsung dishwashers

When choosing between models, compare the full specifications rather than assuming a newer or more expensive model has every drying feature.

  • Heated Dry: Is the phrase explicitly listed in the options, and which cycles support it?
  • Dry+: Does the manual define it as a higher final-rinse temperature, longer drying time, or another operation for that market?
  • AutoRelease Dry: Does the model open the door automatically, and does the manual specify the 5–15-minute opening window?
  • Manual controls: Is the option selected with a dedicated button, through a settings menu, or automatically?
  • Regional documentation: Does the specification belong to the same country and electrical version as the appliance you will install?
  • Plastic-drying expectations: Even with an available drying option, plastics may remain wetter because they cool rapidly.

A useful comparison record includes the complete model code, listed drying options, compatible cycles and any instructions about rinse aid, door opening or hot-water temperature. This prevents a feature name on a retailer page from being mistaken for a universal Samsung function.

Regional and documentation differences matter

Samsung’s support pages do not all describe drying features in exactly the same way. Samsung Canada’s guidance distinguishes Heated Dry from Dry+, while Samsung’s US support emphasizes that most models use condensation drying. Samsung’s Korean service guidance, dated January 6, 2025, describes several drying types, including automatic door opening and hot-air drying on certain model families.

Those regional descriptions demonstrate why the appliance’s own documentation takes priority. A Korean model-family example cannot establish the configuration of a US dishwasher, and a Canadian definition of Dry+ should not be applied to a different regional version without confirmation.

What you can conclude about Samsung Heated Dry

Samsung dishwashers are not all equipped with Heated Dry. Most models covered by Samsung’s US support guidance use condensation drying, while some models provide a dedicated heater option. The DW80CG4051 is one documented example.

To determine the answer for your appliance, locate the full model code, open its Samsung manual or specification, and look specifically for Heated Dry, Dry+ and AutoRelease Dry. If dishes remain wet, start with rinse aid, loading, the 120–149°F hot-water recommendation and post-cycle ventilation before treating the result as a defect.
