No—Samsung DeX for PC is not supported on ChromeOS. Samsung Support says, “PCs running Linux or Chrome OS are not supported.” You can still use a DeX-compatible Galaxy phone or tablet with a supported TV or monitor; plugging it into a Chromebook does not make the Chromebook a DeX screen.
What “Samsung DeX on Chromebook” can mean
There are two different setups that are easy to confuse: running DeX for PC on the Chromebook, or sending DeX from a Galaxy device to an external display. Samsung excludes ChromeOS computers from DeX for PC, while its display instructions cover compatible TVs and monitors.
- DeX for PC on a Chromebook: Unsupported. Samsung’s DeX FAQ explicitly excludes PCs running Chrome OS.
- Galaxy phone plugged into a Chromebook: Samsung’s documentation does not establish a Chromebook as a wired DeX display or endpoint. A Chromebook’s USB-C port is not automatically a video input.
- Galaxy device connected to a TV or monitor: This is the documented alternative, using a supported wired or wireless connection.
Why plugging a Galaxy into a Chromebook won’t make it a DeX screen
Samsung’s USB-C-to-HDMI instructions describe connecting a compatible Galaxy device to a TV or monitor—not routing its display to a Chromebook’s built-in screen. USB-C describes a connector, not a guarantee that a port can accept video input. Samsung’s cited guidance does not identify ChromeOS laptops as DeX display receivers, so do not expect a USB cable or HDMI adapter to turn the Chromebook into a monitor.
Wireless DeX does not change that distinction. Samsung describes wireless connections to supported TVs and monitors, including Miracast-compatible displays; that does not establish Chromebook receiver compatibility. Supported receivers can vary, so check the display’s capabilities and Samsung’s current setup guidance.

Practical alternative: use a TV or monitor
- Confirm your Galaxy model supports DeX. Capability varies by device; consult Samsung’s FAQ and device-specific caveats.
- Choose a supported external display. Samsung documents wired USB-C-to-HDMI and wireless display options for compatible TVs and monitors. Review its DeX setup instructions for the connection method and device requirements.
- For a wired connection, use a suitable USB-C-to-HDMI adapter or cable. This is for connecting the Galaxy device to the external display; it does not make the Chromebook a DeX host or display.
- For wireless DeX, check the receiving display. Samsung describes support for Miracast-capable TVs and monitors, but compatibility depends on the receiver.

Bottom line for Chromebook owners
Do not buy a cable expecting DeX to run on, or display through, the Chromebook. If you want DeX’s larger-screen experience, use a compatible TV or monitor and verify that your Galaxy model supports the required wired or wireless connection.
