Samsung’s reputation for “bad” products is not established by the evidence available here. The concerns readers raise—update timing, slowdowns or unwanted ads, targeted advertising, security, and repair experiences—are real topics to examine, but Samsung’s official materials document policies and troubleshooting, not how often problems happen or whether Samsung fares worse than competitors.
Why do people criticize Samsung?
The criticism tends to reflect a gap between what customers expect and what they experience: timely updates, smooth performance, limited advertising, strong security, and straightforward repairs. Those concerns are not all the same kind of claim. A published troubleshooting guide shows that a problem can occur; it does not show how common it is or establish that Samsung caused every instance.
Samsung’s support and policy materials provide useful detail about its update schedules, advertising controls, security fixes, and service network. They do not provide an independent comparison of customer satisfaction or complaint rates. So the fair answer to “Why do people hate Samsung?” is that recurring concerns are easy to recognize, but the available evidence does not prove that Samsung products are uniformly poor.

Are Samsung phones bad because of software updates?
Update expectations are a plausible source of frustration: a long support promise does not necessarily mean every model receives every update or feature at the same time. Samsung says Galaxy security updates are supported for up to seven years, while eligibility and timing vary by product and market. That qualification matters. “Up to” is not a guarantee that every Galaxy model has the same support period, update cadence, or access to each new software feature. A specific model’s eligibility and market availability need to be checked rather than inferred from the headline figure.
Samsung’s One UI 7 support guide addresses failed downloads, installation concerns, and performance problems after an update, and lists eligible Galaxy phone and tablet families. It also notes that some AI features may be limited or unsupported on listed devices. This confirms that update management and feature availability can require model-by-model attention; it does not show a universal update failure or establish that Samsung updates are slower than competitors’ updates. Do slowdowns and unwanted ads mean Samsung is at fault?
Not necessarily. Samsung’s troubleshooting guidance discusses slowdowns, freezing, and unwanted ads that may appear after installing third-party apps. It advises users to inspect or remove suspicious apps and use Device Care. That is evidence Samsung recognizes these symptoms and offers steps to investigate them—not evidence that Samsung software routinely causes them. Does Samsung put targeted ads on its devices?
Samsung says users of its mobile and IoT devices can opt out of targeted advertisements and receive generalized ads instead. In its 2025 Sustainability Report, the company says it provides notice and obtains consent when collecting and using personal information for targeted advertising. These are Samsung’s statements about its policies and controls; they do not establish that every advertisement, promotional notification, app recommendation, or regional software bundle is covered by the same control. It is therefore useful to distinguish targeted advertising from other kinds of promotions or notifications. A control for targeted ads is a stated privacy choice, not proof that it resolves every complaint about advertising on a device.

Does Samsung’s security bulletin prove Galaxy phones are less secure?
No. Samsung’s security pages describe firmware updates that include patches for Android issues released by Google as well as Samsung-specific issues, and its rolling bulletin lists dated vulnerabilities and patch information. Raw vulnerability counts cannot establish that Galaxy devices are uniquely insecure without a matched comparison: the same dates, device scope, severity, exposure, and denominator would all matter. The cited materials do not supply that comparison.

What do Samsung’s service numbers say about repairs?
Samsung Electronics reported operating 13,784 service centers in 216 countries at the end of 2023 in its 2024 Sustainability Report. That company-reported footprint indicates the scale of Samsung’s stated service network; it does not measure the quality of a local repair, its price or wait time, repair success, or customer satisfaction. Availability and outcomes can differ by location, and a service-center count cannot settle whether a particular customer had a good experience.
What can be concluded about Samsung’s reputation?
The official information supports a careful, limited conclusion: Samsung offers a defined but device- and market-dependent security-update program, publishes troubleshooting for particular software and app-related symptoms, describes an opt-out for targeted ads, documents security fixes, and reports a large service network. None of those sources measures how prevalent the complaints are, and they do not show whether Samsung performs worse than competing brands.
To assess a specific Galaxy device, check its update eligibility and feature support for your market, review the advertising controls available on that device, and verify local repair options. Those checks answer practical ownership questions more reliably than treating “Samsung is bad” as a universal verdict.
