To copy contacts from a supported Samsung Galaxy phone to a SIM card, open Contacts and go to Manage contacts → Export contacts. Choose the SIM, select contacts, and confirm Export. The SIM copy normally includes only names and phone numbers, so check the exported entries if you rely on long names or additional contact details.

What the SIM copy includes—and what it may lose
Exporting is a copy operation: the contacts remain in their original storage location while a copy is saved to the SIM. This differs from moving contacts, which changes their previous storage location. Samsung’s explanation of saving contacts to a SIM distinguishes copying from moving.
SIM cards have limited contact storage. Samsung warns that the name and phone number are copied, but other contact information may be lost; long names or phone numbers may be cut off. The company does not give a universal SIM contact limit, so the number that fits can vary. After exporting, review the SIM entries and keep another backup if you need details such as email addresses or other extended contact fields. Samsung’s Hong Kong support page describes the potential loss and truncation.

When Smart Switch is a better choice
If your goal is to move a full contact list to a new phone, rather than keep a basic copy on a SIM, Samsung recommends Smart Switch. Samsung notes that SIM capacity is limited, making it a less suitable route for transferring a complete list with richer contact records. See Samsung’s guidance on copying SIM contacts to phone memory for its transfer recommendation.
