Unplug the charger, hold your Samsung phone with its charging port facing down, gently shake out droplets, wipe the exterior with a soft clean cloth, then let the phone dry in a well-ventilated area with cool air. Do not charge through the port until it is completely dry and any moisture warning has cleared.
What to do when your Samsung charging port gets wet
- Disconnect wired power. If a cable is connected, unplug it. Samsung’s moisture detection blocks charging to help prevent damage and corrosion. Keep wet hands away from the phone, cable, and charger. Samsung US moisture guidance and Samsung UK guidance both advise against charging while the port is wet.
- Let loose droplets drain. Hold the phone with the port pointing down and shake it gently. Samsung Philippines suggests five to ten gentle shakes; do not shake forcefully. Samsung Philippines explains the water-drop warning.
- Wipe the outside. Use a soft, clean cloth to dry the phone’s exterior. Do not push cloth, tissue, a cotton swab, a pin, or any other object into the port. Samsung warns: “Do not insert any object into the charging port.” Samsung’s moisture instructions explain this precaution.
- Air-dry the phone. Place it in a dry, well-ventilated area and allow cool air to circulate. A fan can help move air around the phone; do not use heat or try to extract liquid with tools. See Samsung’s charging troubleshooting guidance and Samsung Philippines’ water-drop guidance.
- Wait before reconnecting a cable. The port must be completely dry and the moisture alert should clear before wired charging. Samsung UK estimates that water may evaporate naturally in approximately one to two hours; Samsung India says drying can take several hours. These are estimates, not a guaranteed wait time. Samsung UK and Samsung India give the respective timing guidance.
Can you charge the phone while it dries?

Samsung says moisture in the port does not affect wireless charging on supported devices, but that is not permission to put a wet phone on a charging pad. See Samsung’s moisture guidance.
What if the moisture warning appears without a spill?
High humidity can trigger a moisture warning even when the phone has not been directly splashed. Follow the same process: disconnect any cable, dry the exterior, and allow the phone to air-dry before trying wired charging again. Samsung Philippines describes this possibility.

What if liquid other than fresh water entered the port?
Samsung’s US and UK guidance for water-resistant devices says to rinse the affected area with fresh water and dry it thoroughly with a soft cloth after exposure to liquids other than fresh water. Do not apply that advice to an unknown or non-water-resistant phone: check the instructions for your specific model first. Samsung notes that most of its tablets are not water-resistant, so tablet guidance should not be assumed to apply to every device. Samsung US and Samsung UK provide the device-specific cautions.

When to contact Samsung support
If the warning remains after the port has had time to dry, or the phone still will not charge once the warning clears, contact Samsung support or arrange a service inspection. Do not try to clean or repair the port by inserting an object. Samsung’s moisture guidance and charging troubleshooting page recommend seeking help when the problem continues.
