Samsung Calendar is the scheduling app built into Samsung Galaxy phones. It can combine calendars from Samsung, Google and (on supported devices) Microsoft accounts, then show them in year, month, week, day or task views. The app is useful when you want a phone-first calendar with widgets and Samsung’s interface, but the account selected for each event determines where that event is stored and synchronized. Menus and features vary by Galaxy model, region, One UI release and Calendar app version.

What Samsung Calendar does

Samsung Calendar provides a single schedule screen for calendars available on your Galaxy device. Samsung’s Galaxy Store listing describes year, month, week, day and task views, event colors by calendar, repeating events, event-specific time zones, adjustable-transparency widgets and configurable notifications. The listing displayed version 12.7.07.3, dated September 22, 2026; that is a version snapshot, not a guarantee that every Galaxy phone receives the same build or controls. See the Samsung Calendar Galaxy Store listing.

You can use the app for a personal schedule, shared appointments, recurring routines and calendar accounts that already exist elsewhere. Samsung support also documents synchronization with Google Calendar and Outlook Calendar, although account choices and screens depend on the device and software installed.

Views for different planning jobs

View Best use
Year Scanning holidays, travel blocks and long-term commitments.
Month Seeing how appointments are distributed across a month.
Week Planning work, school or family schedules with more time context.
Day Managing a detailed agenda and checking times, locations and alerts.
Task Reviewing task-style entries that your installed version exposes in Calendar.

Per-calendar colors help distinguish personal, work and other sources. A recurring event can follow a repeating pattern, and an event can use a time zone different from the phone’s current zone. Widgets can be placed on the home screen and their transparency adjusted where the installed version supports that control.

Accounts, permissions and prerequisites

You need a compatible Samsung Galaxy phone with the Calendar app installed or available through Samsung’s software channel. Samsung does not publish one complete compatibility matrix for every Galaxy model, Android version, One UI release and country, so check the current app listing and your phone’s software updates when a feature is missing.

Calendar accounts

Samsung’s organization guidance describes adding Samsung, Google or Microsoft Exchange accounts, and says Calendar can synchronize with Google Calendar or Outlook Calendar. The exact account menu may be under Settings > Accounts and backup > Manage accounts, or a similarly named path on your model. Use the labels shown on your phone rather than relying on a path from another Galaxy generation.

Permissions

Permission Why Calendar may request it What happens if you deny it
Calendar Read and write calendar events. Core event viewing or editing may not work.
Notifications Deliver event alerts. Reminders may not appear.
Contacts (optional) Invite attendees or show birthdays. Contact-based invitations and birthday information may be unavailable.
Location (optional) Store or select an event location. Location suggestions or saved places may be limited.
Photos and videos (optional) Attach files to an event. Adding media attachments may be unavailable.

These permission descriptions come from Samsung’s listing. You can review them in Settings > Apps > Calendar > Permissions; wording and placement can differ by One UI version.

How to add an event

The reliable process is to choose a date, enter the event details, select the destination calendar and save. Samsung’s guides show slightly different button names across models, so look for the equivalent control if your screen does not say exactly “Add event.”

  1. Open Calendar. Launch Calendar from the app drawer, home screen or a Calendar widget.
  2. Choose the date. Tap the required date in the current view. Samsung’s UK instructions also describe selecting a date in a Calendar widget and tapping the plus icon.
  3. Start a new event. Tap the plus symbol, Add event or the equivalent new-event command.
  4. Enter the title and timing. Add a name, start and end date or time, and mark the event as all-day when appropriate.
  5. Add useful details. Depending on the build, you can enter a location, notes, attendees, an alert, a repeat pattern, a time zone and an attachment. Optional permissions may be required for contacts, location or photos and videos.
  6. Choose the calendar. Check the calendar/account field before saving. It may offer a Samsung calendar, a Google account, an Exchange calendar or another source enabled on the phone.
  7. Save. Tap Save or the check-mark control. Reopen the event afterward if you need to verify its account, alert or recurrence.

Samsung’s support pages emphasize that labels, menu paths and screen layouts vary by model, software version and Calendar version. An event can later be opened and deleted from its details screen. If the save control is disabled, complete required fields or switch to a writable calendar.

How synchronization with Google Calendar works

Google-calendar visibility depends on two separate choices: whether the Google account is synchronized on the phone and which calendar you select when saving an event.

  1. Open the phone’s account settings and select the Google account you want to use.
  2. Open its synchronization controls and turn on Calendar.
  3. Run Sync now if your device provides that command, then return to Calendar and allow the account’s events to load.
  4. When creating an event, select that Google account as the destination calendar instead of a local Samsung calendar.
  5. Check the event in Google Calendar on the web or another signed-in device to confirm that it reached the intended account.

Samsung’s Canadian instructions warn that synchronization uses the most recently changed data and that an incorrect setup can result in events being deleted from the phone or Google account. Verify the account and destination calendar before treating an event as backed up. Read Samsung’s Google Calendar synchronization guide for the current account controls.

Google explains that events synchronized through a Google account can appear on both an Android device and a computer, and that some calendar apps synchronize after you add a Google Account in the app’s settings. This does not establish identical synchronization for every Samsung-local event, task type, reminder or third-party calendar source. Google’s explanation is available in Calendar Help.

Local, Google and Outlook destinations

Destination What it means Check before saving
Samsung or phone calendar The event is associated with the local calendar exposed by your device; access from other devices is not implied. Whether you need cross-device access or a cloud copy.
Google account calendar The event can synchronize with Google Calendar when account sync is enabled. The correct Google account and enabled Calendar sync.
Microsoft Exchange/Outlook calendar The event follows the Exchange or Outlook account configured on the phone, subject to that account’s policies. That the account is added and its calendar sync is enabled.

Samsung separately describes the Reminder app’s synchronization with Microsoft To Do and Outlook. Do not assume that a Reminder task and a Calendar event are interchangeable or that every Outlook task automatically appears as a Calendar event.

Notifications, repeats, time zones and widgets

Notifications

Calendar notifications are separate from merely having an event on screen. Set an alert while editing the event, then ensure Calendar notifications are allowed at both the app and system levels. Battery-saving or focus modes can also delay alerts, so inspect those settings if an event exists but no notification appears.

Repeating events

Use the repeat control for schedules such as weekly classes, monthly bills or annual dates. Confirm the end condition and the calendar account before saving; changing one occurrence may offer choices that affect only that instance or the whole series.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Time zones

An event can have its own time-zone setting. This is useful for flights, remote meetings and appointments arranged in another region. Check the event’s zone when traveling rather than assuming the phone’s current zone is correct.

Widgets

A Calendar widget can provide an agenda or date view without opening the app. Samsung’s listing notes adjustable widget transparency. To add one, long-press an empty area of the home screen, choose Widgets, select Calendar and place the preferred size; the exact picker can differ by launcher and One UI version.

Version-specific collaboration features

Feature availability can change with a device release. In a Samsung software-update notice dated October 6, 2026, for model SM-A336B and the named software release, Samsung describes adding a video conference to Google Calendar events created in Samsung Calendar. The notice also describes invitee controls, including whether invitees can see other invitees or invite additional people, and mentions Google-calendar stickers. Those details apply to that cited model and release context, not automatically to every Galaxy phone. Check your model’s current release notes before planning around them. See the SM-A336B update notice.

Fixes for common problems

Events are missing

  • Open the calendar list and make sure the relevant account is visible.
  • Confirm Calendar synchronization is enabled for that account.
  • Check whether the event was saved to a local calendar instead of Google or Exchange.
  • Verify the date, time zone and active view; a hidden calendar or different zone can make an event appear absent.

Changes are not appearing on another device

  • Confirm both devices use the same account and that Calendar sync is enabled.
  • Run a manual sync and allow time for the service to update.
  • Check the event’s destination calendar rather than assuming every event in Samsung Calendar is cloud-backed.

Notifications do not arrive

  • Allow Calendar notifications in system settings.
  • Check the event’s alert time and that it is not set to “none.”
  • Review Do Not Disturb, notification categories and battery restrictions.

A feature or button is unavailable

Compare your Calendar app and One UI versions with the documentation for your exact model. Samsung’s own guides state that screens and options vary, and the SM-A336B notice demonstrates that collaboration features can be tied to a particular release.

Is Samsung Calendar suitable for your workflow?

Samsung Calendar is a sensible choice when you primarily plan on a Galaxy phone, want Samsung’s widgets and multiple schedule views, and already use Samsung, Google or Exchange calendars supported by your device. It is less suitable as the sole source of truth when your team depends on a feature that your model or account does not expose, or when you need a guaranteed desktop workflow without verifying account synchronization.

Decision question What to evaluate
Who owns the event? Choose the account that should retain and synchronize it, not merely the first calendar shown.
Where must you access it? Google-account events can appear on Android and computer through Google sync; local events do not automatically gain that coverage.
Which planning style fits? Compare Samsung’s year, month, week, day, task views, colors and widgets with the interface you already use.
Do you need tasks or reminders? Keep Calendar events distinct from Reminder tasks and Microsoft To Do synchronization.
Do you need collaboration? Check attendee, video-link and invitee-permission support on your exact model and software release.

Official instructions and current caveats

For model-specific event controls, use Samsung’s Galaxy event guide. Samsung’s broader account and alert guidance is in its Google sync support article and event-management instructions. Because Samsung changes controls by model, app build, region and release, the settings and release notes on your own Galaxy phone are the final authority.

The practical verdict is straightforward: Samsung Calendar is a capable Galaxy scheduling front end, but synchronization is only as reliable as the account and destination calendar you select. Set up the account first, verify one test event on the service you care about, and then adopt the app for recurring or important schedules.
