Samsung Art Store and Ambient Mode are not the same feature. The Art Store is Samsung’s catalog for finding artwork, while Art Mode is the television state that displays selected art when you are not watching TV. Ambient Mode is a related display experience whose relationship to Art Mode depends on the exact television. Samsung says Ambient Mode is integrated into Art Mode on its 2025 QLED models, so the labels cannot be treated as universally separate or interchangeable.

The simplest way to remember the difference is that the Art Store is the source, Art Mode is the presentation state, and Ambient Mode is a model-dependent display experience. You may use the store without treating it as a separate screen mode, and on some newer televisions you may find ambient controls inside Art Mode rather than in a standalone menu.
What the Samsung Art Store actually is
The Art Store is a content service and catalog. On supported televisions, it is where you browse available artwork, open a preview, choose pieces for display and manage collections. Samsung’s US Art TV page describes access to more than 5,000 works. That is a current catalog claim from a page retrieved in 2026, not a permanent guarantee: the selection and total can change.

The store is therefore closer to a library than to a picture mode. Opening it does not by itself make the television behave like a framed picture. You use the store to decide what the television can show, then the compatible television’s Art Mode presents that selection when normal viewing ends.

Catalog access does not always mean paid access
Samsung says owners can display their own photos and access selected free artwork. A membership may be required for the broader premium Art Store catalog, but a subscription is not the only way to put an image on a supported television.
Samsung’s US page lists the Art Store membership at $4.99 per month or $49.99 per year. Those are US figures shown by Samsung in 2026; they can change, and local checkout pricing, taxes, currency and offers may differ. Treat the figures as the listed US price rather than a worldwide rate.
What Art Mode does
Art Mode is the display state. When you stop watching television, a compatible screen can show a chosen artwork instead of presenting a conventional blank screen. Samsung positions The Frame as a concrete example of a product that supports Art Mode.
Samsung describes Art TV behavior that adjusts brightness and color tone to the room’s lighting. A motion sensor can also turn an Art TV on or off. These functions are part of the viewing experience, not part of the Art Store catalog itself: the store supplies choices, while Art Mode controls how a selected image remains visible in the room.
Samsung UK summarizes the concept with the line “TV when it’s on. Art when it’s off.” The wording describes the transition between ordinary television use and the art presentation state; it does not mean every Samsung television has identical sensors, menus or artwork support.
What Ambient Mode means
Ambient Mode is a related display experience, but Samsung does not apply the term identically across every product generation. Samsung’s Canada documentation treats Ambient Mode as a feature with its own settings and warns that availability can vary. Samsung’s guide for 2025 QLED models says Ambient Mode has been integrated into Art Mode on those models.
That integration is why a universal definition causes confusion. On one television, Ambient Mode may appear as a distinct option in the interface. On a 2025 QLED model, the same family of controls may be reached through Art Mode. The name you see, the settings offered and the way you leave the screen running depend on the model, year and market.

Do not assume that seeing an Ambient Mode reference means the television supports the full Art Store catalog, or that an Art Store membership adds every ambient function. They are separate questions: first establish what display modes the hardware supports, then establish what content sources those modes accept.
How the features fit together in normal use
- Choose a source. Browse the Art Store for catalog artwork, select eligible free pieces or prepare a personal photo.
- Save or select the image. The television or companion app may use a collection or favorites area. Exact labels vary by generation.
- Enter the display state. When you stop ordinary TV viewing, select Art Mode if the television offers it. On supported 2025 QLED models, Ambient Mode controls are integrated into Art Mode.
- Let the television manage presentation. Supported Art TV behavior can adapt brightness and color tone to room lighting, and a motion sensor may switch the display on or off.
This sequence explains why the Art Store and Ambient Mode should not be compared as competing catalogs. One is primarily a content service; the other is a display experience. Art Mode is the bridge between them when the television supports both.
Artwork, personal photos and free options
Premium catalog
Samsung’s US Art TV page says the catalog contains over 5,000 works. Because catalog size is an editorial and licensing figure that can change, check the current store on your television before relying on a particular count or artist selection. A membership is intended to unlock the broader premium catalog, subject to the terms shown for your region.
Free artwork
Samsung UK says its service offers more than 370 free pieces annually, while noting that free counts can change without notice and that monthly timing may vary by region. The figure is therefore an annual UK page claim, not a promise that every country or model receives the same number.
Art Store Streams
Samsung UK also describes Art Store Streams as 30 handpicked artworks each month. Samsung notes that this feature varies by country and model. If the stream does not appear, that absence does not by itself indicate a fault; eligibility may simply differ for your television or market.
Your own images
Personal photos are a separate path from catalog membership. Samsung’s support guidance for The Frame says owners can add personal photos through the SmartThings app or with a USB device. Image-transfer menus and supported file behavior can change between generations, so follow the instructions for the exact model rather than assuming that a procedure for an older Frame applies to another Art TV.
Compatibility: model, year and country matter
There is no single worldwide list that safely answers which Samsung televisions have every one of these features. Samsung’s US material covers newer Art TV models, while its FAQ names The Frame and OLED S95H in the context of Art Mode. That difference reflects product-line and page coverage, not proof that one universal list applies everywhere.

- Market: US, UK and Canadian documentation describes different availability, artwork counts and settings. A feature shown on one country’s page may not be offered in another.
Samsung’s regional support pages are the authoritative place to confirm eligibility for a precise model. Check the page for your country and the current software or user guide before purchasing a membership.
How to put art on a compatible Samsung television
Using the Art Store on the television
- Open the television’s Art Store entry from the home screen or Art Mode interface. The menu name and location vary by model generation.
- Browse the available catalog and open an artwork to view its details.
- Choose the on-screen command to save, set or add the artwork to your collection. If the item is premium, the television will identify the membership requirement.
- Return to Art Mode and select the saved piece. If the model integrates Ambient Mode into Art Mode, ambient controls will be presented in that same area rather than under a separate Ambient Mode menu.
Adding a personal photo to The Frame
- Install or open SmartThings and add the television using the account and pairing process shown by the app.
- Open The Frame’s photo or Art Mode controls in SmartThings and choose an image from the phone’s library.
- Follow the app’s transfer and placement prompts, then select the photo in Art Mode on the television.
- If you prefer a physical transfer, copy the photo to a USB device and connect it to the television. Use the on-screen import option to add it to the available personal-image collection.
Samsung’s support guide confirms SmartThings and USB as personal-photo methods for The Frame. It does not make those exact steps universal for every Samsung model, so use the model-specific guide when labels or import choices differ.
Managing membership
Membership is managed through the Art Store. The store’s account screen should show whether a title is included, free or restricted to members. A television can still show personal photos or eligible free content when you do not maintain a paid membership, but the premium catalog may remain locked.

You want museum-style artwork on the wall
Start with a television that Samsung explicitly identifies as supporting Art Mode, such as The Frame, then verify that your country and model can access the catalog you want. The Art Store is the relevant service because it supplies curated artwork; Ambient Mode alone does not establish catalog access.

Check personal-image support first. The Frame’s documented routes are SmartThings and USB, and neither requires you to subscribe solely to display your own pictures. Confirm storage, import and image-format behavior in the guide for your model.
You want an ambient screen when nobody is watching
Look for the exact Ambient Mode or Art Mode description for your model. On 2025 QLED televisions, Samsung says Ambient Mode is integrated into Art Mode, so searching for a separate Ambient Mode tile may be the wrong approach. On other models, the controls may remain separate or may not be offered.

You want the lowest recurring cost
Use personal photos and the free artwork options available in your market. The premium membership is optional for those sources, although it may be necessary for the full catalog. Check the current local price because the published US monthly and annual figures do not establish pricing elsewhere.
Common problems and how to diagnose them
Art Mode is missing
Confirm the complete model number, country version and model year. A television can be marketed with art-oriented language without supporting every Art Mode or Art Store function. Install available television software updates, then consult the model-specific Samsung support page. Do not use the presence of Ambient Mode as proof that Art Mode is supported.
Ambient Mode cannot be found
Check whether your model is a 2025 QLED covered by Samsung’s integration guidance. If it is, look inside Art Mode rather than searching for a separate Ambient Mode application. On other models, review the regional guide because Samsung says Ambient Mode availability and settings vary.
A catalog item is locked
Read the item’s status in the Art Store. It may be part of the premium catalog rather than the free selection. Verify that the Samsung account on the television matches the account used for membership, and confirm that the membership is offered in your country.
The artwork count does not match an advertisement
Catalog totals and free-piece counts are time- and region-sensitive. Samsung’s US page claims over 5,000 works, while its UK page cites more than 370 free pieces annually and 30 monthly streamed artworks. Those numbers describe different markets and offerings; they are not interchangeable promises.
A personal photo does not appear
Repeat the import through SmartThings or USB using the model’s current instructions. Make sure the transfer completed and that you are looking in the personal-photo collection rather than the premium catalog. If the television still does not show the image, check the model guide for supported file and storage requirements instead of assuming the Art Store subscription controls personal photos.

The Art Store is where you obtain and manage artwork; Art Mode is how a compatible Samsung television presents that artwork when ordinary viewing stops. Ambient Mode is related but model-dependent, and Samsung says it is folded into Art Mode on 2025 QLED models. Check the exact model, year and country before assuming that a menu, catalog, free allowance or membership price applies to your television.
