To give an app its own notification sound on a recent Samsung Galaxy phone, enable notification categories if needed, then choose a sound for the app’s relevant category. Go to Settings > Notifications > Advanced settings and turn on Manage notification categories for each app if the switch is available. Then open Settings > Apps > [app] > Notifications > Notification categories, select a category, and tap Sound.
Change the sound for an app’s notifications
-
Open Settings > Notifications > Advanced settings.
-
Turn on Manage notification categories for each app if the option appears and is off. On newer software, this setting may need to be enabled before category controls show up. Samsung’s instructions cover this prerequisite.
-
Return to Settings, then open Apps and select the app you want to adjust.
Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy. -
Tap Notifications > Notification categories. If the app has several categories, choose the one that produces the alert you want to change.

Tap Sound and select a tone. Repeat for other categories or apps as needed.
Per-app sounds are set in the app’s notification settings; changing the phone’s general notification sound is not the same as assigning a sound to a particular app. Categories and their names depend on the app. A community walkthrough demonstrates this category-based workflow on a Galaxy Z Flip6 with One UI 6.1.1, but its examples do not guarantee identical menus on every model. See the Samsung Community walkthrough.
