On your Samsung Galaxy A53 5G, open Camera in Photo mode and point it at the QR code; when a prompt appears, tap it to continue. You can also use the Scan QR code tile in Quick settings or scan a saved image in Gallery. Samsung documents all three methods, though menu placement can vary by software version and region.
How do I scan a QR code on my Samsung A53 5G?
Use the Camera app
- Open Camera and select Photo mode.
- Point the camera at the QR code and hold the phone steady until a prompt appears.
- Tap the prompt and review the action or destination before proceeding. You do not need to take a photo.
If no prompt appears, check that Scan QR codes is enabled under Camera settings. Samsung’s A53 user guide documents this setting. Samsung’s scanning instructions and the Galaxy A53 user guide describe the built-in feature.
Use the Quick settings scanner
- Swipe down from the top of the screen to open Quick settings. If needed, swipe down again to see more controls.
- Tap Scan QR code.
- Frame the code and review the detected content before selecting an action. Samsung’s current Canada instructions also describe a flashlight control for dim conditions.
The exact tile location and panel layout may differ after software updates. If you do not see the tile, look in the Quick panel’s edit or customization controls. Samsung’s Canada support instructions provide Camera as an alternative, and its Galaxy A53 update notes illustrate that Quick panel controls can change.

Scan a QR code saved on the phone
- Save the QR code image to Gallery, or take a screenshot if it cannot be saved directly.
- Open the image in Gallery.
- Press and hold the QR code until a notification appears, then review the result before acting.
The code needs to be fully visible and clear enough to read. Samsung documents this Gallery method in its QR scanning guidance.

Which scanning method should you use?
| Method | Best for | What it offers |
|---|---|---|
| Camera | A code displayed in front of you | Simple point-and-scan workflow; tap the prompt when it appears. |
| Quick settings | A live code when you want a dedicated scanner | Review detected content and, in Samsung’s current Canada instructions, a flashlight control. |
| Gallery | A QR code already saved on the phone | Open the image and press and hold the code. |
What to do if the A53 will not recognize the code
- Check the camera setting: In Camera, open Settings and turn on Scan QR codes.
- Show the entire code: Make sure it is not cropped, damaged, covered, or distorted.
- Help the camera focus: Tap the QR code in the Camera preview, then wait for it to sharpen.
- Adjust distance: Move the phone slightly closer or farther away until the code is in focus.
- Improve the lighting: Avoid glare and shadows. Use the scanner’s flashlight control when available.
- Try another built-in method: If the Camera prompt does not appear, open Quick settings and try Scan QR code, or use Gallery if the code is saved on the phone.
- Look for a moved tile: If the scanner shortcut is missing, inspect the Quick panel’s edit or customization controls; placement can change with software.
These troubleshooting steps follow Samsung’s QR scanning guidance. The precise screens can vary: Samsung says its Canada instructions apply to devices sold in Canada and that screens and settings may differ elsewhere.

A QR code can lead to a website or prompt an action such as joining Wi-Fi or downloading content. Samsung advises: “Only scan QR codes from sources you trust.” Check the destination and proposed action before proceeding, especially before opening a link, connecting to a network, or downloading anything. Samsung’s safety guidance recommends scanning only codes from trusted sources.
