First identify which lock you are facing. A forgotten PIN, pattern, or password is a screen-lock recovery problem; a phone that rejects another carrier’s SIM has a network-lock problem. For a screen lock, try a soft restart, then use Samsung’s Find My Mobile option only if biometric access still works. If no remote recovery method was configured, Samsung says a factory reset may be necessary—and it erases unbacked-up data. For a SIM restriction, only the original carrier can confirm the rules for your country and account.
Start by identifying the lock
“Unlock my Samsung A20” can describe two unrelated situations. Choosing the wrong remedy can waste time or cause avoidable data loss.
| What you see | What it means | Correct first contact |
|---|---|---|
| The A20 asks for a PIN, pattern, or password that you forgot | Screen lock | Samsung’s device-recovery guidance |
| The phone starts, but a SIM from another network is rejected | Carrier or network lock | The carrier that originally sold or supplied the phone |
Samsung’s published instructions collected for this guide address the first case. They do not establish a universal carrier-unlock procedure. Do not use a screen-reset method to solve a network restriction.
Confirm your exact Galaxy A20 variant before pressing buttons
The Galaxy A20 name covers regional and software variants. Samsung’s Caribbean support page identifies an SM-A205G/DS model and links an Android 9 manual for that regional version. A title alone does not prove that your handset is the same edition. Check the model number on the phone, its packaging, or the regional support documentation before following any key combination or menu sequence.

If you can still enter the phone with a fingerprint or face method, record the model and software details before attempting recovery. If you cannot reach the home screen, use the label or packaging rather than copying a button sequence written for another Galaxy model. Samsung’s current UK support article is general Galaxy-device guidance, so availability of a feature and the exact screens can vary by device, account, and software version.
Check the least-destructive options first
1. Try a normal soft restart
Samsung lists a soft restart as a troubleshooting step when the lockout may be temporary. A restart does not reveal a forgotten credential, but it can clear a transient touch, biometric, or system problem. Use the phone’s normal power menu if it is available. If the handset is unresponsive, use the restart method in the manual for your confirmed A20 variant; do not assume every A20 uses the same key timing.
After the phone starts again, test the credential carefully. Repeated guesses can trigger longer delays, and a restart will not remove the configured PIN, pattern, or password.

2. Test an already-enrolled biometric
Ask whether a registered fingerprint or face-unlock method still works. Samsung’s documented Find My Mobile exception applies when you can access the phone biometrically but have forgotten the PIN, pattern, or password and cannot change the lock type in the ordinary settings. If biometrics do not work, skip to the reset section rather than assuming Find My Mobile can bypass the lock.

Use Find My Mobile only in the biometric-access scenario
Samsung describes Find My Mobile as a way to reset the unlock methods in the narrow situation above. It is not a universal way to recover a forgotten credential on every locked A20.
- Unlock the phone with the working fingerprint or face method.
- Confirm that the handset is connected to the Samsung account and that the Find My Mobile feature was available and configured for that device.
- Open Samsung’s Find My Mobile service from an authorized browser session and select the Galaxy A20 linked to that account.
- Choose the service option that resets the device’s unlock methods, then complete Samsung’s account verification prompts.
- Set a new screen-lock method on the phone after the old unlock information has been removed.
The important limitation is what this action does: Samsung says it removes the existing unlock data. It does not recover or display the old PIN, pattern, or password. Feature availability depends on the handset, software, network connection, and account setup, so the option may not appear even when the model is a Galaxy A20.
Do not sign out of the Samsung account or remove the device from account management while you are testing this route. If the service cannot see the phone, treat that as an unavailable remote method and move to the official reset guidance rather than trying random third-party tools.

When a factory reset is the fallback
Samsung’s current UK support guidance says that a factory reset may be necessary when you are locked out and did not set up a remote unlock method. A reset restores access by deleting the phone’s local contents; it does not reveal the forgotten credential.

Put data recovery first
Samsung Electronics Service Korea’s forgotten-screen-lock guidance warns that a full reset erases data that was not backed up and that deleted data cannot be recovered. Treat that warning as the decision point, not as a footnote.
- Check whether photographs, contacts, messages, and documents already exist in a cloud backup or on a computer.
- Confirm that you know the Samsung and Google account credentials previously used on the handset. Having them available avoids an account problem after the reset.
- Remove any microSD card or other removable storage if you need to protect files stored on it. A reset decision should not be used as a substitute for making a separate copy.
- Charge the phone sufficiently and keep it connected to reliable power during the reset process.
If the files are irreplaceable and no backup exists, stop before resetting and seek a qualified repair provider that can explain what is and is not recoverable. Samsung’s cited guidance does not promise recovery of deleted local data.
Follow the sequence for your model and software
There are two legitimate starting points:
- If you can reach Settings: use Samsung’s on-device reset path and read every confirmation screen. The exact labels can differ by Android release and region.
- If the screen cannot be opened at all: use the recovery/reset button sequence in Samsung’s current “I can’t unlock my Samsung Galaxy device” guidance for your confirmed model and software. Do not substitute a sequence copied from a different Galaxy phone.
During the process, choose the factory-data-reset action only after you have accepted the deletion warning. A soft restart is reversible; a completed factory reset is not. Allow the device to finish and reboot instead of interrupting it when the screen goes dark or shows a progress message.

After the reset
Work through the initial setup, install available updates, and create a new screen-lock method that you can store securely. Restore only the backups you recognize. If setup asks for an account previously associated with the phone, use the legitimate credentials for that account; a reset is not a way to transfer ownership of a device that is not yours.

Why common “bypass” promises are risky
The official material reviewed for the Galaxy A20 does not establish any third-party bypass application, paid unlock service, or secret code as a Samsung-approved recovery method. Such offers may demand a remote connection, request account passwords, install untrusted software, or leave the phone unusable. They can also make data loss harder to diagnose.
Stay with Samsung’s own restart, Find My Mobile, and factory-reset paths. If a repair shop is involved, ask in writing whether it is attempting a data-preserving repair or a wipe, and whether it is authorized to handle your device. Never provide a Samsung or Google password to an unknown operator.
Unlocking a carrier-locked Galaxy A20
A network lock is imposed by a carrier, not by the phone’s screen-lock setting. Samsung’s cited support pages do not give the eligibility rules, waiting period, account requirements, or code process for any particular carrier or country.

- Contact that original carrier through its official support channel and ask specifically for a SIM/network unlock.
- Provide the account or ownership details the carrier requests and ask whether the device meets its current eligibility criteria.
- Follow the carrier’s instructions for inserting another SIM or entering an unlock confirmation, if the carrier supplies one.
A carrier may refuse a request because of account status, financing, loss or theft reports, regional policy, or an incompatible model. Those rules are carrier-specific; do not infer them from Samsung’s screen-lock instructions. If you do not know the original carrier or country, identify those facts first because there is no reliable universal procedure to publish for every A20.
Choose the right path at a glance
| Your situation | Recommended action | Effect on local data |
|---|---|---|
| Biometric unlock still works and the PIN, pattern, or password is forgotten | Try Find My Mobile’s unlock-method reset, if the phone and account support it | Existing unlock information is removed; Samsung’s guidance does not describe it as a way to reveal the old credential |
| Phone is temporarily behaving incorrectly | Perform a soft restart using the confirmed model’s normal procedure | No factory wipe |
| No biometric access and no remote method was configured | Back up what you can, then follow Samsung’s model-specific factory-reset guidance | Unbacked-up data is erased and cannot be recovered, according to Samsung’s regional warning |
| Another carrier’s SIM is rejected | Ask the original carrier for country-specific network-unlock eligibility and steps | A carrier unlock is separate from a screen reset |
Prevent another lockout
- Keep a current backup of photos, contacts, and documents rather than relying on the phone’s internal storage.
- Verify that the Samsung account remains signed in and that any remote-device feature you intend to use is enabled while you still have access.
- Store the screen-lock credential in a reputable password manager or another secure place you can reach without the locked phone.
- Write down the exact model variant and region. The SM-A205G/DS Android 9 documentation cited by Samsung is not proof that every A20 follows the same menu or button sequence.
- Keep proof of purchase and the original carrier details. Those facts are useful when requesting a network unlock.
Bottom line for a forgotten Galaxy A20 credential
Use the least-destructive route that matches your situation: restart first, then Find My Mobile only when biometric access and account setup still qualify. If neither applies, a factory reset is Samsung’s fallback, but it permanently removes local data that was not backed up. If the issue is a SIM restriction, stop looking for screen-lock tricks and work with the original carrier in the relevant country.
