To open the back of a Samsung Galaxy A12, power it off, remove the SIM tray, and release the plastic cover gradually with plastic opening tools. The cover remains attached by a lock-button/fingerprint-sensor flex cable, so turn it gently like a book and disconnect the flex before lifting the cover away.
Check the model first: Samsung’s regional support page lists repair documentation for SM-A125F, and Galaxy A12 variants may differ. Confirm your exact model and local documentation before following a model-specific procedure: Samsung Galaxy A12 SM-A125F support.
Before opening the phone
- Power the phone off and work on a clean, stable surface.
- Remove the SIM tray before trying to release the rear cover.
- Use plastic opening picks or a plastic disassembly stick; a nylon spudger can help with careful prying. These tools are optional, but the model-specific guides recommend plastic tools where possible.
- Do not force a stubborn edge or pull the cover away once it loosens. The flex cable is still connected.

- Power down and remove the SIM tray. Switch the phone off, then eject and remove the SIM tray. Do this before working around the cover edge.
- Release the cover edge gradually. Insert a plastic pick or plastic disassembly tool carefully at the rear-cover seam. Work around the perimeter with shallow movements, freeing the clips a little at a time. Avoid forcing the tool deeper or twisting hard if an edge resists.
- Stop when the cover is loose. Do not yank it off. The back is still tethered to the phone by the lock-button/fingerprint-sensor flex cable.
- Turn the cover like a book. Gently swing it to the left, keeping the cable slack and visible. Disconnect the flex from the main board before separating the cover completely.
Do not add heat as a mandatory step: the cited model-specific instructions do not establish a required heating setting or procedure. If the cover will not release with careful plastic-tool work, stop rather than increasing force.

Choose tools and next steps safely
Plastic picks or a plastic spudger
Plastic tools are the recommended choice in the cited A12 instructions because they let you work around the cover seam without resorting to force. A plastic phone-opening kit is optional; no particular kit is established as Samsung-approved or tested for this procedure.
Improvised or metal tools
The guides favor plastic tools. They do not establish that every metal tool will cause damage, but forcing a hard tool into a resistant seam can scratch or damage parts. If you do not have a suitable plastic tool, it is safer to obtain one or use a repair professional than to pry aggressively.

When to stop and seek repair help
Stop if the battery looks swollen, or if the rear cover resists despite gradual, careful work. The reproduced repair-training material warns that a swollen battery can ignite and cause injury; do not attempt improvised battery handling. Seek qualified repair help instead.

If you proceed beyond opening the cover to voltage-sensitive work, the training material says to disconnect the battery first. This procedure is limited to accessing the cover and does not provide battery-replacement instructions.

Samsung’s support page for SM-A125F lists a repair guide dated January 13, 2021. Availability and documentation vary by region, so check the model number shown on your device and use the matching local support page.
