On most Galaxy phones that use a Side key, press and hold Side/Power + Volume Down until the power menu appears. Tap Power off, then tap Power off again to confirm. This operates the phone’s power controls; it does not remove the screen lock, and behavior may vary by A03 software version or region.
Use the power menu first
- Press and hold the Side/Power key and Volume Down at the same time until the power menu appears.
- Tap Power off.
- Tap Power off again if the phone asks you to confirm.
Samsung’s general instructions use the Side key and Volume Down on Galaxy devices where the Side key controls power; on phones with a dedicated Power button, holding that button opens the power menu. Samsung’s support listing identifies Galaxy A03 variants in the SM-A035 family and provides Android 11 and Android 12 manuals, but button behavior and menus can differ across models and software builds. If the A03 is frozen
If the screen is unresponsive or the menu does not appear, press and hold Side/Power + Volume Down until the phone shuts down or restarts. Samsung says this forced action may take up to 60 seconds. It is a recovery procedure for an unresponsive device, not the same as choosing Power off from the menu. Follow Samsung’s guidance for a Galaxy phone or tablet that will not turn off.
What to expect from the password prompt
The cited Samsung instructions do not establish that every Galaxy A03 software version or regional build will allow a normal shutdown without requesting a screen-lock credential. If a prompt blocks the menu method, the available official guidance does not confirm a credential-free workaround for every A03. A forced shutdown is not a way to bypass or remove the lock.

After reboot, a phone secured with biometrics may require its backup PIN or password. Samsung Support explicitly notes that a biometric-secured phone or tablet requires the backup credential after reboot. See Samsung’s shutdown troubleshooting guidance.
