Salt and Soil: A Frontier Family Sim is planned to launch in Steam Early Access on November 9, 2026, according to its Steam listing—not November 10, as the supplied headline states. The official page does not explain the one-day difference. The game focuses on one frontier family and its homestead across generations, rather than empire-scale conquest.
What Salt and Soil is about
Developed by DelosX, Salt and Soil: A Frontier Family Sim is a single-player strategy and simulation game set on the American frontier from 1609 to 1900. Its campaign follows one family and its changing homestead over generations. Players manage resources and labor while dealing with farming, livestock, workshops, trade, diplomacy, conflict, family relationships, and succession. Steam’s listing describes the game as an RPG, simulation, strategy title, and Early Access release.
The scale is personal: the family’s fortunes and decisions are the organizing thread. That makes generational relationships, succession, local events, and the day-to-day operation of a homestead more central than managing a large empire.

How the Family Council shapes a campaign
Each year, a Family Council presents events and choices informed by the family’s circumstances. The developer describes events such as resource hardship, births, deaths, marriages, conflict, and success. Choices can affect relationships and succession, linking immediate pressures to longer-term consequences.

Steam discloses that generative AI produces some of the Council’s narrative text and structured choice outcomes from campaign state. The disclosure says generated content is constrained by the game’s historical setting, family data, localization rules, and gameplay schema, then validated before it appears.
What Early Access includes—and what remains in development
The developer says the campaign can be played from start to finish in Early Access, but also says characters, homestead businesses, and the economy are simpler than planned for version 1.0. A complete campaign therefore does not mean every system is already at its intended final depth.

Playtest access and what to check before launch
A developer community update described a free Steam Playtest built around a 30-turn “Jamestown Chronicle” scenario beginning in 1607. A later official update said the first wave had ended and that further access would reopen in separate waves. When the Steam page was examined, it offered a request-access option; that status can change.

The date conflict remains unresolved in the official information summarized here: Steam lists November 9, 2026, while the supplied headline says November 10.
Who may find the premise appealing
The game’s family-scale approach may suit players who want strategy decisions to play out through a homestead and its people over generations. Its fit depends in part on whether players welcome AI-generated narrative and are comfortable with the current Early Access internet requirement. It is a less natural match for someone seeking a conventional nation- or empire-scale strategy campaign.

Roman, the solo developer, explains the case for player feedback: “In Salt and Soil, the consequences of a decision show up decades of game time later. I can’t test that kind of balance alone — it takes campaigns played by many different people. The game is playable from start to finish, and I want to finish it together with the people playing it.”
