Microsoft Dynamics 365 Customer Service is the strongest documented Salesforce AI alternative in this shortlist when your service and sales teams already use Microsoft 365, Power Platform, or Dataverse, or when you need CRM records, case work, knowledge, and governed AI in one environment. Its Copilot can retrieve customer-service data, summarize context, and complete supported actions, but the features your users receive depend on licenses, environment, and configuration.
There is no universally best replacement. Zendesk AI and Fin belong in a broader customer-service evaluation, while Salesforce Agentforce for Service is the incumbent baseline. Choose by workflow coverage, data access, AI autonomy, integration effort, governance, and total cost—not by an AI feature list alone.
What makes a Salesforce AI alternative suitable for both service and sales?
Customer-service and sales software overlap, but they do not have identical jobs. Service teams manage cases, queues, conversations, knowledge, contact-center channels, escalations, and self-service. Sales teams manage leads, opportunities, activities, forecasts, accounts, and follow-up. An alternative must therefore be assessed as a workflow platform rather than as a chatbot.
Use these six decision axes before comparing vendors:
#1 Best Overall
- Workflow coverage: Confirm support for case management, contact center, knowledge, self-service, CRM accounts and contacts, pipeline management, and sales activities.
- Customer context: Identify whether the assistant can use the customer, case, interaction, order, opportunity, and knowledge records your staff need.
- AI role and control: Separate drafting and summarizing for a human representative from agents that can change records or trigger actions. Define approval, handoff, monitoring, and audit requirements.
- Deployment fit: Account for your existing CRM, data platform, channels, integrations, identity model, configuration skills, and migration workload.
- Commercial fit: Compare the actual product editions, per-user subscriptions, consumption charges, add-ons, implementation, and support. List prices for unlike bundles are not equivalent.
- Governance and readiness: Review data permissions, privacy and compliance controls, production availability, feature maturity, and how administrators will monitor AI behavior.
This framework prevents a common mistake: replacing one AI promise with another without proving that the new system can perform your specific service and sales processes.
Microsoft Dynamics 365: the most complete documented alternative
Microsoft describes Dynamics 365 Sales, Customer Service, and Customer Insights as model-driven apps built in Power Apps and running on Dataverse. Microsoft also says shared Copilot and AI capabilities are available across those apps, although some capabilities may be unavailable in a particular app or require administrators to enable them. See the Dynamics 365 AI capabilities documentation for the current feature matrix.
How Dynamics 365 Customer Service uses AI
Microsoft’s Customer Service documentation describes representatives working with customer-service records such as cases, customer profiles, and interactions. Copilot can help retrieve case details, summarize a customer’s context, suggest or draft responses, and perform supported actions such as updating a case or creating a follow-up. The exact actions available depend on your environment, permissions, enabled features, and product licensing.
The primary representative experience is Copilot Service workspace. Microsoft says new organizations with Enterprise licenses use this workspace in place of Customer Service Hub; Customer Service Hub is deprecated for new Enterprise organizations. Verify the SKU and rollout status during procurement because Microsoft changes packaging and feature availability.
For a service-and-sales organization, the important architectural point is shared data and AI services rather than a single assistant screen. A seller can work with account and opportunity information while a service representative works with cases and interactions in the same Dataverse-backed model, subject to security roles and configuration. That can reduce duplicate customer records, but it also makes data architecture and permission design critical implementation tasks.
Where Dynamics 365 is a good fit
- Organizations already invested in Microsoft 365, Power Apps, Power Automate, or Dataverse.
- Teams that need both structured CRM sales processes and detailed service-case workflows.
- Service operations that want AI to retrieve context, summarize records, and execute bounded updates rather than merely generate text.
- Businesses with internal administrators or a partner capable of configuring security roles, channels, data connections, and Copilot features.
Where to be cautious
- Licensing is not a simple “one AI price.” The required Customer Service or Sales edition, Copilot entitlements, Power Platform capacity, connectors, and any consumption-based features must be checked together.
- Model-driven customization can be powerful but may require more planning than a narrowly focused help-desk deployment.
- Features can be preview, region-specific, disabled by default, or unavailable in a particular app. Treat a demonstration as a hypothesis until the same workflow works in your tenant.
Dynamics 365 Customer Service pricing and licensing context
On Microsoft’s euro-localized Customer Service page accessed in 2026, the listed prices were paid yearly, per user per month, and excluded tax:
Rank #2
| Edition | Published price | What the figure means |
|---|---|---|
| Customer Service Professional | €50 per user/month | Microsoft list price on the reviewed euro page; annual commitment, tax excluded. |
| Customer Service Enterprise | €105 per user/month | Microsoft list price on the reviewed euro page; annual commitment, tax excluded. |
| Customer Service Premium | €195 per user/month | Microsoft list price on the reviewed euro page; annual commitment, tax excluded. |
These are a regional price snapshot, not a total-cost estimate or a like-for-like comparison with an AI add-on from another vendor. Recheck your country page, user type, contract terms, included capabilities, storage, channels, and consumption charges before signing. Microsoft explicitly notes that available Customer Service experiences depend on purchased licenses, environment, and configuration; its Customer Service product page is the appropriate place to verify current offers.

Salesforce Agentforce as the incumbent baseline
Salesforce describes Agentforce for Service as combining autonomous resolution, representative assistance, and AI across channels. Its service page also describes conversation summaries, Enterprise Knowledge grounded in third-party knowledge sources, and Search Answers. Those capabilities define what a current Salesforce customer may expect from its existing platform; they do not establish that any alternative is better or cheaper.
Salesforce listed Agentforce for Service at $125 USD per user per month, billed annually, on the page accessed in 2026. Salesforce warns that information can change and says detailed pricing should be confirmed with sales. Do not compare that figure directly with a Dynamics edition: one may be an AI service or add-on while the other is a broader CRM application tier.
A practical shortlist for different operating situations
Choose Dynamics 365 first when shared Microsoft data matters
Put Dynamics at the top of the proof-of-concept list if your customer, case, opportunity, and activity data already belongs in Microsoft’s ecosystem, or if your team wants Power Apps and Dataverse as the common application layer. The strongest documented case is a service organization that needs representatives to retrieve context and complete controlled record actions while sales users work from related account and opportunity data.

Keep Salesforce when the migration case is weak
An alternative must earn its migration cost. If your Salesforce data model, integrations, service console, knowledge base, automations, and user training are working, first test whether the desired AI outcomes can be delivered in the existing environment. Switching platforms solely for an AI label can create data-cleanup, process redesign, and adoption risk.
Rank #3
Add Zendesk AI and Fin for focused service evaluations
Include Zendesk AI and Fin when your primary requirement is customer-service automation and you are willing to validate their current capabilities directly. The information available here is insufficient to rank either against Dynamics on price, resolution performance, integrations, or feature depth. Require a live demonstration using your own cases and insist on written answers for data retention, escalation, human handoff, and administration.
Step-by-step evaluation process
1. Map the jobs, not the feature names
Write the ten to twenty most important jobs your teams perform. Examples include triaging an inbound case, finding a prior interaction, summarizing a long thread, drafting a response from approved knowledge, updating a case status, creating a follow-up task, qualifying a lead, preparing an opportunity brief, and answering a customer through self-service. Record the role, trigger, data required, permitted action, approval point, and success measure for each job.
2. Define the minimum customer context
For every job, list the records the AI must be able to read: account, contact, case, interaction, product, entitlement, order, opportunity, activity, and knowledge article. Mark sensitive fields and sources that must be excluded. A system that produces fluent text without the right context will not solve the operational problem.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches2Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3. Separate assistance from autonomy
Classify each desired capability as read-only retrieval, generated draft, recommendation, or action-taking agent. Start with human approval for customer-facing messages and record changes. Expand autonomy only after you can inspect prompts, retrieved sources, action logs, failure states, and escalation behavior.
4. Confirm editions and dependencies
Ask each vendor to identify the exact SKU, AI entitlement, environment setting, connector, channel license, storage or capacity allowance, and consumption charge required for each mapped job. Get the answer in writing for your region and contract term. This step is especially important for Dynamics because Microsoft states that experiences vary by license, environment, and configuration.
5. Build a representative proof of concept
Use a controlled set of historical or synthetic cases, conversations, knowledge articles, and sales records. Include routine requests, ambiguous questions, missing data, conflicting records, sensitive information, angry customers, and handoffs. Give every product the same tasks and permissions.
Rank #4
6. Score outcomes with human reviewers
Have experienced service and sales staff score factual accuracy, relevance, citation or source visibility, tone, completeness, action correctness, escalation quality, and time saved. Record abstentions and harmful suggestions, not just successful answers. This is an evaluation method you can run internally; it is not a claim that any vendor achieved a particular performance level.
7. Model total cost and operating ownership
Include licenses, implementation, data migration, integration work, knowledge cleanup, testing, training, admin time, monitoring, support, and variable usage. Compare a realistic three-year scenario for your actual user mix rather than multiplying a headline price by total headcount.
8. Decide with a risk-adjusted scorecard
Weight the criteria according to your business. A regulated contact center may give governance and auditability more weight than autonomous resolution; a small sales-and-service team may prioritize deployment speed and existing identity integration. Document why the selected product wins and which gaps require a mitigation plan.
Implementation and governance checklist
- Data access: Map security roles and confirm that AI retrieval honors the same record and field permissions as the user.
- Knowledge quality: Remove obsolete, duplicated, contradictory, and ownerless articles before grounding responses.
- Human handoff: Define when the assistant must stop, transfer the conversation, disclose uncertainty, or request approval.
- Action boundaries: Allow only explicitly approved actions, such as updating a case field or creating a follow-up, and log who or what initiated each change.
- Privacy and retention: Obtain legal and security approval for customer data, transcripts, prompts, retrieved content, and model-provider processing.
- Monitoring: Track failed retrievals, unsupported answers, escalations, action errors, latency, adoption, and customer-impact incidents.
- Change control: Re-test after model, connector, knowledge, workflow, or licensing changes.
- Regional and production status: Verify that each feature is generally available, supported in your geography, and permitted for production use.
Common failure modes and how to correct them
“The demo worked, but agents cannot use it”
Usually the demo tenant has broader permissions, cleaner data, or features that are not enabled in production. Reproduce the scenario with a standard representative role, production-like records, and your intended channels before approving the design.
“The summary is polished but wrong”
Check retrieval sources, duplicate customer records, stale knowledge, and missing interaction history. Require the interface to expose supporting records where possible, and keep a human review step for consequential communications.
“The price comparison looks favorable until contracting”
Headline figures often describe different bundles. Rebuild the estimate with the exact user types, editions, AI entitlements, capacity, channels, connectors, implementation, and annual or usage terms. Treat regional list prices as indicative until your quote is complete.
Best Value
“Autonomous actions create operational risk”
Limit the initial release to read and draft functions, then pilot a small set of reversible actions. Add approval gates, role-based permissions, action logs, and an immediate rollback process before expanding scope.
Decision summary
For a serious Salesforce replacement evaluation covering both customer service and sales, start with Microsoft Dynamics 365 Customer Service and Dynamics 365 Sales when a shared Dataverse and Power Apps foundation fits your data and implementation capacity. Its documented Copilot workflows—retrieving service records, summarizing context, and taking supported actions—make it the clearest alternative supported by the available evidence.
Do not treat that as an automatic recommendation. Keep Salesforce and its Agentforce baseline in the comparison if migration risk is high, and add Zendesk AI or Fin when a focused service product may fit better. Select a winner only after a controlled proof of concept, license validation, security review, and total-cost model using your own workflows.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is Dynamics 365 automatically cheaper than Salesforce Agentforce for Service?
No. The published figures describe different products and bundles: Microsoft lists Customer Service application tiers, while Salesforce lists Agentforce for Service. Compare required licenses, AI entitlements, usage, implementation, and support for your users and region.
Can Dynamics 365 Copilot update cases without a human?
Microsoft documents supported actions such as updating cases and creating follow-ups, but availability depends on permissions, configuration, environment, and licensing. Set approval and audit controls before enabling action-taking workflows.
Should a small support team choose Zendesk AI or Fin instead?
They are reasonable candidates for a focused customer-service shortlist, but the available official information here does not establish their pricing, integrations, or feature superiority. Validate both directly with representative cases before deciding.
What should a proof of concept measure?
Use identical representative cases and sales records for each option, then have experienced staff score factual accuracy, source relevance, action correctness, escalation quality, safety, and time saved. Include failures, abstentions, and edge cases rather than counting only successful answers.
