The safest way to personalize Marvel Rivals is to use only controls exposed by the game itself: hero-specific reticles, HUD options, graphics and input settings, language and privacy menus, and supported display modes. Do not install skin or texture packs, injectors, scripts, memory tools, or client-file edits. NetEase’s published rules prohibit unauthorized configuration changes and unfair visual resources, and penalties can include removal from the game.
Where the safe customization boundary is
A useful rule is to distinguish a setting the client officially exposes from a change that replaces, injects, or rewrites game data. The first category includes the in-game menus for reticles, HUD behavior, graphics quality, mouse behavior, language, social privacy, and display modes. The second includes modified resource files, overlays that alter presentation, and tools that attach to the running process.
NetEase’s Prohibited Software & Hardware List — Marvel Rivals (2025) identifies unauthorized client-configuration edits, graphics-related .ini changes, and unfair visual resources as prohibited. The rule is not limited to obvious damage or aim cheats: a visual modification can still be treated as an unauthorized change to the client. Staying within the menus supplied by the game avoids that ambiguity.
Why cosmetic intent does not make a mod safe
A skin swap, model replacement, audio pack, recoil presentation change, camera-shake edit, or visibility tweak may be advertised as cosmetic, but it still changes files or the way the client presents information. NetEase’s 2026 guidance on mods and violation management says some modifications use memory injection or similar techniques to interfere with game processes and may trigger anti-cheat. It specifically warns about violating .asi files and says that a suspension being lifted does not make those files permitted.

- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
NetEase’s 2026 “Zero Tolerance on Cheats” announcement states that anti-cheat launches concurrently with the game client and cannot be independently disabled. Claims that a launch parameter, mod manager, or utility can turn it off should therefore be treated as unsafe, not as a customization method.
What you can change safely
| Option | Where it is exposed | Competitive effect | Platform or hardware notes | Risk under published rules |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Hero-specific reticle and HUD | Settings > Controller or Keyboard > Combat > HUD | Changes the aiming indicator and its readability; it does not alter weapon behavior | PC supports shared reticle-code import; consoles require manual entry | Lowest: supported client controls |
| Graphics quality | In-game graphics menu | Changes image quality and performance presentation through official options | Available according to the options shown by your edition and platform | Lowest: no file editing required |
| Mouse behavior | Keyboard > Combat | Changes input handling, not game data | Relevant to keyboard-and-mouse players | Lowest: supported client controls |
| Language, privacy, and social presentation | In-game language and social/privacy menus | No change to combat balance | Exact labels can vary by platform or current client version | Lowest: supported client controls |
| 120 FPS display mode | Console display settings plus a compatible screen | Can make motion appear smoother when the mode is available; it does not guarantee better aim | PS5, PS5 Pro, and Xbox Series X require an HDMI 2.1 connection and a 120 Hz display for the documented stable 120 FPS mode | Low: a hardware/display upgrade, not a client modification |
| Texture, skin, model, audio, recoil, camera, or visibility files | Third-party files or tools | May change information presentation or perceived balance | Not an officially supported customization surface | High: listed or described as prohibited modification activity |
Customize a reticle for each hero
Reticles are the most flexible built-in visual customization because you can tailor the indicator to the way a hero attacks without touching game files. Shape, size, color, and related HUD behavior can be changed, and saved presets can be assigned through the hero selector.
- Pause the match or return to the main interface. Open the game’s Settings menu.
- Choose the control section. Select Controller or Keyboard, matching the device you use.
- Open Combat, then HUD. This is the path used for reticle controls.
- Adjust the indicator. Change the reticle type or shape, size, color, and any available animation or related options. Make one change at a time so you can tell which setting improved or reduced readability.
- Save a preset. Use Save Reticle rather than leaving the page without storing the configuration.
- Assign it to a hero. Use the hero selector to associate the saved preset with the character for whom it was designed. Create separate presets when a single shape does not work across weapon types.
- Check it in the Practice Range. Look at the reticle over bright effects, dark surfaces, and moving targets before using it in a competitive match.
PC reticle codes and console limitations
PC players can import shared reticle codes through the supported reticle interface, which is faster than entering every value manually. Use codes only in the game’s own import field; a code does not justify downloading an executable, injector, or file-replacement package. TechRadar reports that console versions do not provide code importing, so PlayStation and Xbox players must reproduce the values manually in the HUD controls.
Choose a shape for readability, not fashion
PC Gamer describes controls for color, size, shape, saved presets, and reticle animation. Its practical starting point is to consider the weapon style: a larger circle can be easier to read for melee or area-of-effect attacks, while a small pinpoint indicator can suit precision weapons. Those are recommendations, not guarantees of higher accuracy. Map lighting, particle effects, motion, and your own eyesight matter more than a universal “best” reticle.

For a first pass, select a color with strong contrast against the maps you play most, avoid a size that obscures a target, and disable or reduce animation if movement makes the center difficult to track. Then test at several distances in the Practice Range. Save the version that remains visible during an ability effect, rather than the one that looks best on a static menu screen.
Tune graphics and input through the normal menus
Graphics controls
Use the in-game graphics page for quality and performance changes. NetEase’s Version 20250110 patch notes (2025) list controls including anti-aliasing, model detail, global illumination, and reflection quality. Depending on platform and current version, the menu may expose additional quality or performance choices.
These settings change how the client renders its scene through supported controls. They are different from editing a configuration file. Do not copy a graphics value into an external .ini file or rely on a “config optimizer” that writes one for you; the prohibited-software policy specifically calls out graphics-related .ini edits.
Mouse smoothing and acceleration
Keyboard-and-mouse players can open Keyboard > Combat and adjust the mouse-smoothing and mouse-acceleration options listed in the patch notes. Change one option, play briefly, and decide whether the cursor feels predictable at both slow tracking and fast turns. If you use a mouse driver or peripheral utility, keep its behavior separate from any tool that injects code into the game process.

Language and social privacy
Language selection and social/privacy controls are also legitimate ways to personalize the client. They affect menus, communication, or who can interact with you rather than combat data. Labels can differ by platform and release, so use the wording visible in your current Settings screen instead of following an old file-editing guide.
Use a supported display upgrade when the goal is smoother motion
The official FAQ identifies one clear hardware route for console players: PS5, PS5 Pro, and Xbox Series X support a stable 120 FPS mode when connected to a display compatible with HDMI 2.1 and a 120 Hz refresh rate. This is an optional display upgrade, not a modification to the game client.
Check compatibility before buying
- Confirm that your console model is one of the supported systems listed above.
- Verify that the display has a 120 Hz refresh rate, not merely a marketing label such as “motion rate.”
- Check that the relevant HDMI input and cable support HDMI 2.1 bandwidth.
- Enable the console’s 120 Hz or performance option and then check the game’s display settings.
- If 120 FPS does not appear, test the cable and the display’s correct HDMI port before changing any game files.
A higher refresh rate can make motion appear smoother when every part of the chain supports it, but it does not promise improved aim, lower latency in every setup, or a competitive advantage by itself. Treat the display as a compatibility purchase, not as a substitute for reticle testing or sensible graphics settings.

- Start with one hero. Pick a character whose attacks you understand so that you can judge the reticle rather than learning a new kit at the same time.
- Set contrast first. Choose a color that remains visible over the maps and effects you encounter.
- Set scale and shape second. Use the smallest indicator you can track reliably; enlarge it for spread, melee, or area-of-effect attacks if the center is hard to locate.
- Review animation. Keep movement only if it helps you read the firing state. Reduce it when it competes with the target.
- Test under clutter. Use the Practice Range and inspect the indicator against bright backgrounds, dark corners, shields, explosions, and moving targets.
- Save and assign. Store the preset and attach it to the intended hero so a later global change does not undo your work.
- Change graphics one setting at a time. If performance or clarity changes, you will know which official control caused it.
This process improves comfort and consistency without claiming that a particular color, shape, or size makes every player more accurate.
Changes to avoid
- Skin, texture, model, or audio replacements: these alter game resources outside the supported menu system.
- Recoil, camera-shake, or visibility modifications: presentation changes can affect information available during play and are not made safe by being labeled cosmetic.
.iniand.asiedits: NetEase identifies unauthorized configuration changes and violating.asifiles as enforcement risks.- Memory-injection tools, cheat engines, scripts, macros, and injectors: NetEase warns that similar techniques can interfere with the game process or trigger anti-cheat.
- Unmount blockers and anti-cheat bypass claims: the official statement says anti-cheat starts with the client and cannot be independently disabled.
- Mod managers treated as permission: a warning list or a community label does not override the game publisher’s rules.

Troubleshoot without installing a tool
The reticle looks different after switching heroes
Check that the saved preset was assigned through the hero selector rather than only saved as a general profile. Reopen Settings > Controller or Keyboard > Combat > HUD, confirm the values, save again, and test in the Practice Range.

A shared PC code will not import
Make sure you are using the game’s own reticle-code field and that the code matches the current interface. On console, code import is not available; enter the shape, size, color, and related values manually.
The image is hard to read after a graphics change
Return to the graphics menu and reverse the last setting you changed. Evaluate anti-aliasing, model detail, global illumination, and reflection quality separately. Do not “fix” a visual problem by downloading an external configuration file.
120 FPS is missing on a supported console
Confirm the console model, 120 Hz display mode, HDMI 2.1-capable input, and cable. If any link in that chain is limited to a lower refresh rate, the game may not expose the documented mode. Restore the standard display option rather than installing a frame-rate unlocker.
Recommended Free Tools
You installed a mod and now receive warnings
Stop using it, close the game, remove the unauthorized files, and restore the client through the platform’s normal file-verification or reinstall process. Do not attempt to hide the modification with a bypass utility. NetEase’s guidance says that a lifted suspension is not permission to continue using a violating mod.
A practical decision checklist
- Is the option visible in the current Marvel Rivals Settings, HUD, hero, or display menu? If yes, it is within the supported customization surface.
- Does the method replace, inject, unmount, or rewrite a client file? If yes, do not use it.
- Does it require an executable, script, macro, memory tool, or injector to run alongside the game? Treat it as prohibited-risk software.
- Are you buying hardware only to meet the documented 120 FPS requirements? Check the console, HDMI 2.1 path, and 120 Hz display specification first.
- Can you test the result in the Practice Range and undo it from the same menu? If not, the method is outside the safe workflow described here.
Using the built-in reticle and HUD editor, official graphics and input controls, privacy and language settings, and compatible display hardware gives you meaningful personalization while keeping the client unchanged. That is the defensible line under NetEase’s published 2025 and 2026 policies.
