If you own both RYOBI 18V ONE+ and 40V batteries, the right choice depends on whether you need both platforms charging at the same time. The RYOBI P137 is the clearest choice when simultaneous charging is essential: RYOBI describes it as charging and maintaining an 18V and a 40V battery concurrently. The RYOBI PCG007 also supports both platforms and advertises very fast charging examples, but the documentation reviewed here does not establish that it charges two batteries simultaneously. Separate chargers remain sensible if you already have them, charge infrequently, or want independent charging hardware.
What “dual platform” means
A dual-platform charger accepts two different RYOBI battery families: 18V ONE+ packs and 40V packs. It does not mean the charger works with batteries from other manufacturers, and it does not automatically mean that two packs can charge at the same time. Those are separate questions that must be answered from the exact model’s documentation.
That distinction matters because the two models most likely to be confused are the P137 and PCG007. Both are identified by RYOBI as supporting the 18V ONE+ and 40V platforms, but the available product information describes their capabilities differently.
P137 and PCG007 compared
| Charger | Supported platforms | What the documentation establishes | Published charging examples | Important qualification |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| RYOBI P137 | 18V ONE+ and 40V | Simultaneously charges and maintains one 18V and one 40V battery | No specific charging-time example in the reviewed product information | The Home Depot Canada listing describes one 18V and one 40V battery charging at once and lists a 6-foot cord |
| RYOBI PCG007 | 18V ONE+ and 40V | Dual-platform compatibility is established; simultaneous two-pack charging is not established by the reviewed documentation | 15 minutes for a named 4Ah 18V EDGE battery; one hour for a named 6Ah 40V battery | Those are RYOBI-advertised examples, not guaranteed times for every battery pack |
The P137 and PCG007 should therefore be treated as different products, not interchangeable names for the same design. In particular, do not assume the PCG007 inherits the P137’s simultaneous-charging behavior.

When the P137 makes more sense
You regularly use both platforms in the same work period
Choose the P137 when an 18V tool and a 40V tool are both part of your normal workload and you want both battery families ready without taking turns. RYOBI’s P137 product information says its indicator lights show status as batteries are “Simultaneously Charged and Maintained.” A retailer description further specifies one 18V and one 40V battery charging at once.
This is useful for a mixed-tool routine such as using 18V drills, lights or saws while also preparing a 40V mower, blower or other 40V equipment. The value is concurrency: one charger can work on each platform at the same time instead of requiring a second charger or a later charging cycle.
You want one charging station
A single dual-platform unit can reduce the number of devices on a workbench. The P137 listing reviewed for this comparison specifies a 6-foot cord, which may make placement easier when the nearest outlet is not directly beside the charging shelf. Measure your own workspace before buying; cord reach and ventilation still determine where the charger can safely sit.

You need documented maintenance behavior
The P137 description covers both charging and maintaining the batteries. That wording indicates the charger reports battery status while the packs are being charged and kept ready, rather than merely accepting a pack and providing no stated maintenance function. Follow the charger manual for storage and safety directions; the product description is not a substitute for those instructions.
When the PCG007 makes more sense
Fast charging for specific high-demand packs is your priority
RYOBI markets the PCG007 with two named examples: a 15-minute charge for a 4Ah 18V EDGE battery and a one-hour charge for a 6Ah 40V battery. These figures are manufacturer-advertised examples tied to particular batteries. They should not be treated as a universal 15-minute or one-hour promise for every 18V or 40V pack.
The PCG007 operator’s manual says charge time depends on the type of 18V or 40V battery pack. Capacity, battery design and the charger-and-pack combination therefore matter. Compare your exact battery model with the charger’s current documentation rather than extrapolating from the two headline examples.

You do not require confirmed two-pack charging
The name “dual platform” confirms that the charger accepts both RYOBI families; it does not, by itself, confirm that it charges two packs concurrently. The PCG007 materials reviewed for this article do not establish simultaneous charging of an 18V and a 40V battery. If charging two packs at once is a non-negotiable requirement, select a model whose documentation explicitly says so, such as the P137 description, or retain separate chargers.

When separate chargers are the better setup
You already own suitable chargers
If you already have an 18V charger and a 40V charger, buying another device may add little value. You can place one pack on each charger and continue using the hardware you know is compatible. The reviewed information does not establish a general cost or speed advantage for separate units, so the financial decision depends on your existing equipment and the price of any replacement you are considering.
You want independent charging hardware
Separate chargers let you charge each platform independently. If one charger is unavailable, misplaced or being used elsewhere, the other platform can still have its own charging station. This can be useful for households, workshops or job sites that keep 18V and 40V tools in different locations.

Your charging demand is occasional
For infrequent users, concurrency may not justify consolidating chargers. If you normally finish a project with one depleted pack and have several hours before the next use, a single platform charger may be adequate. A dual-platform charger is most valuable when both battery families repeatedly compete for the same charging window.
Choose by workload rather than the word “dual”
Use this sequence before buying:
- Inventory your batteries. List every 18V ONE+ and 40V pack you actually use, including capacity and any EDGE designation. A charger decision based only on tool count can miss the fact that your largest packs determine charging time.
- Mark simultaneous demand. Note how often you need an 18V and a 40V battery ready together. “Every workday” points toward documented concurrent charging; “once in a while” may favor existing separate chargers.
- Decide whether speed or concurrency comes first. The PCG007 has advertised examples for particular 4Ah and 6Ah packs. The P137 has explicit simultaneous-charging information. Those are different benefits.
- Check the exact model documentation. Confirm that the model number on the carton and charger matches the product information you are using. Do not transfer a feature from the P137 description to the PCG007.
- Check your region and retailer listing. Product descriptions, included accessories and warranty terms can vary by market. The six-foot cord detail cited here comes from a Home Depot Canada P137 listing, so verify the listing applicable to your location.
- Plan the physical charging area. Allow room for the charger, battery ventilation and cable routing. A consolidated charger saves a device footprint, while separate chargers may require two outlets and more bench space.
Decision guide for common situations
Mixed 18V and 40V tools used every day
The P137 is the most directly supported choice when your priority is charging one pack from each platform at the same time. Its documented concurrency aligns with a daily mixed-platform workflow. If you instead choose the PCG007, obtain confirmation from the current manual or product listing before assuming two-pack operation.

Keep your primary platform’s charger as the anchor. Add a dual-platform unit only if the less-used platform still creates a recurring charging bottleneck. Otherwise, a second charger for the dominant platform may be a more appropriate expansion, although the sources reviewed here do not provide a model-by-model comparison of separate chargers.

You own an 18V EDGE pack and a 40V 6Ah pack
The PCG007’s published examples directly name those capacities: 15 minutes for a 4Ah 18V EDGE battery and one hour for a 6Ah 40V battery. Treat those numbers as the manufacturer’s examples for the specified packs. They do not predict the time for a different capacity or chemistry, and they do not resolve whether two packs charge concurrently.
You are replacing a failed charger
Match the replacement to the batteries you own and to the feature you lost. If the old setup allowed simultaneous 18V-and-40V charging, choose a replacement with the same behavior explicitly documented. If your main complaint was waiting for a particular battery, compare the exact pack and charger combination against the PCG007’s advertised examples.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. How to use a dual-platform charger safely and effectively
- Verify the platform before inserting a pack. Confirm that the battery is a RYOBI 18V ONE+ or RYOBI 40V pack supported by the charger. Dual-platform compatibility is not cross-brand compatibility.
- Inspect the battery and charger. Do not use a pack, connector or cord that is damaged, wet or contaminated. Follow the operator’s manual for inspection and environmental requirements.
- Seat the battery firmly. Insert it until the charger indicates that the pack is recognized. A status light that does not behave as described in the manual is a reason to remove the pack and troubleshoot rather than assume it is charging.
- Read the indicators. On the P137, the indicator lights are described as showing charging and maintenance status for the batteries. Use the model-specific light pattern in the manual to distinguish charging, complete and fault conditions.
- Allow for pack-dependent times. Do not set a timer based on the PCG007’s 15-minute or one-hour examples unless you are using the named battery types and the conditions match the manufacturer’s description.
- Remove and store as directed. When charging is complete, follow the manual’s instructions for removal and storage. Avoid leaving a battery in a location where heat, moisture or accidental contact can damage it.
Common mistakes and how to avoid them
- Confusing platform support with simultaneous charging: “18V/40V” tells you the battery families the charger supports. It does not settle how many packs it can charge at once.
- Assuming PCG007 equals P137: The models have different product information. P137’s concurrent charging is documented; PCG007’s concurrent behavior is not established in the reviewed material.
- Applying headline times to every battery: The PCG007’s 15-minute and one-hour figures identify particular packs. The manual says charge time depends on the battery type.
- Comparing chargers without matching packs: A fair speed comparison requires the same battery capacity and type. Comparing a 4Ah 18V pack with a larger 40V pack does not measure a single universal charging rate.
- Assuming separate chargers are automatically faster or cheaper: The available sources do not establish a universal advantage. Separate units may improve independence, while a dual unit may reduce equipment clutter; your existing chargers and workload determine the practical result.
- Forgetting regional listing differences: Cord length, warranty presentation and availability can vary. Treat the six-foot cord and retailer details as characteristics of the cited Canadian listing, not as a guarantee for every market.
What the evidence does—and does not—show
The model-level evidence supports three firm conclusions. First, both chargers are identified as compatible with RYOBI’s 18V ONE+ and 40V platforms. Second, the P137 is specifically described as charging and maintaining one 18V and one 40V battery simultaneously. Third, the PCG007 has manufacturer-advertised fast-charge examples, while its manual makes clear that actual time depends on the battery type.
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
It does not support a like-for-like laboratory ranking of P137, PCG007 and named separate chargers. No independent comparative test establishes that one category is universally faster, cheaper or more durable. It also does not confirm simultaneous two-pack operation for the PCG007. Those limits are important when a product page uses broad “dual platform” language.
Bottom-line buying rule
Buy or keep separate chargers when independent stations, existing equipment or occasional charging meet your needs. Choose the P137 when the defining requirement is documented simultaneous charging of an 18V and a 40V battery. Consider the PCG007 when its advertised charging examples match your exact packs and fast charging is more important than having confirmed two-pack concurrency. In every case, verify the current model documentation and your regional listing before purchase, and treat dual-platform support as compatibility with two RYOBI battery families—not as a promise that every model charges two batteries at once.
