The Russell Hobbs RHSC650 is a 6L digital slow cooker whose removable non-stick pot can sear and sauté on gas or compatible electric stovetops before moving to the cooker base. It is not suitable for induction: the manual explicitly says, “Not suitable for induction stovetops.” If you have an induction cooktop, the appliance can still slow-cook, but you cannot use its defining stovetop-searing feature as described.
What the RHSC650 offers
Russell Hobbs Australia describes the current matte-black RHSC650BLK as a 200W, 6L slow cooker with a removable non-stick searing pot, digital timer and three settings: HIGH, LOW and WARM. It has a tempered-glass lid, cool-touch handles and wrap-around heating elements; the manufacturer says its capacity serves up to eight people. Its Australian product page also describes an auto function that starts on High and changes to Low once cooking temperature is reached. These are manufacturer specifications and descriptions, not independent performance measurements.
The public CHOICE listing gives the RHSC650 a 2.9kg weight and dimensions of 25 × 39 × 26cm (H × W × D), along with a two-year warranty listing. CHOICE’s Expert Rating and low- and high-setting cooking-performance scores are member-only on the page reviewed, so its public listing does not establish a test result or recommendation.
Regional prices are not interchangeable. The Australian manufacturer page displayed an RRP of AUD 99.95, while the New Zealand page displayed NZD 199.99 when those pages were checked in 2026. Both are regional page prices that can change; check the relevant local listing for current price and availability. The public CHOICE listing showed AUD 100.

Can you use the RHSC650 pot on an induction cooktop?
No. The RHSC650 manual permits stovetop use on gas and electric cooktops, and explicitly excludes induction. The cooker base itself remains usable as a slow cooker on an induction-equipped household’s bench, but the removable pot’s stovetop searing and sautéing function is not compatible with induction.
On a compatible gas or electric stovetop, remove the pot from the base and use it like a frying pan. Do not put the lid on while searing. Sear in batches rather than crowding the pot, then use oven mitts to return the hot pot to the base. For the non-stick surface, the manual recommends wooden, silicone or heatproof plastic utensils and advises against metal spoons, spatulas, tongs, forks and knives.

How the controls and timer work
The manual describes LOW and HIGH cooking modes with a timer from 30 minutes to 10 hours, selectable in 30-minute increments. Six hours is the default displayed time. When the programmed cooking time ends, the cooker changes to WARM; after a further 10 hours on WARM, it returns to standby.

These are manufacturer instructions; they do not verify the settings’ actual temperatures or temperature accuracy. The auto function described on the Australian product page—starting on High and switching to Low once cooking temperature is reached—is a separate manufacturer-described behavior from selecting a timed LOW or HIGH cycle.

Cleaning, capacity and safe use
The pot and lid are not dishwasher-safe. The manual says to wash them by hand with hot, soapy water and a cloth or sponge, avoiding scouring pads. Wipe the cooker base clean; do not immerse it. The manual also says not to refrigerate the cooker or cooking pot, so follow that product-specific instruction rather than relying on a listing that labels the bowl fridge-suitable.
Although the product is marketed as 6L and suitable for up to eight servings, the manual says not to fill the pot beyond three-quarters, leaving room for expansion. For safe cooking, thaw meat, poultry, fish and seafood fully first, and ensure food is piping hot throughout. Boil dried kidney beans for at least 10 minutes before adding them, because raw or undercooked kidney beans are poisonous. Do not use the appliance to reheat previously cooked food.

What public reviews and testing establish
CHOICE’s public RHSC650 page exposes selected specifications but gates its Expert Rating and cooking-performance results behind membership. No public numerical test score or finding is available on that page, so it cannot support a claim that the cooker performed well or poorly in CHOICE testing.

ProductReview.com.au showed a 4.4 rating across 16 reviews when accessed in 2026; the live count and rating can change. Accessible owner reports praise the removable pot’s lightness, stovetop browning convenience, straightforward controls and ease of cleaning. One owner says LOW runs too hot for some recipes, and another notes the lack of induction compatibility. Those are individual experiences, not controlled tests of cooking temperature or consistency.
Who should consider the RHSC650?
The RHSC650 is a plausible choice if you want to brown ingredients in the same pot before slow-cooking, have a gas or compatible electric cooktop, and are comfortable hand-washing the pot and lid. The removable 2.9kg pot may also appeal if you prefer a lighter insert, though that listed weight is not a comparison against other models.
Look elsewhere if induction searing is essential, dishwasher-safe cookware is a requirement, or you need publicly available independent performance scores before buying. When comparing slow cookers, check cooktop compatibility, whether the insert can sear, capacity, timer and warm behavior, cleaning requirements, insert weight and material, and what independent performance evidence is actually accessible.
