The Russell Hobbs Steamglide Ultra RHC940 is a 2400 W steam iron with a 300 ml tank, a ceramic non-stick soleplate and a three-metre cord, according to the manufacturer’s feature sheet. Those figures make it a reasonably specified everyday iron on paper, but they are advertised specifications—not independent performance measurements. I could not verify hands-on testing of the RHC940, a current price or current stock, so this is a specification-led review rather than a tested performance verdict.
What the RHC940 offers
Russell Hobbs identifies the RHC940 as the Steamglide Ultra steam iron in its Australia/New Zealand instructions and warranty manual. The feature sheet lists the following specifications and claims; it does not establish how the iron performs in controlled use.

The manual also identifies a cool-spray mist button and spray nozzle, alongside the steam control, burst-of-steam button, thermostat and power lights, water inlet and cover, self-clean button, maximum water-level mark, steam vents and heel. These controls provide the basic functions expected of a steam iron, but the documents do not give independent evidence about glide, crease removal, heating time, handling comfort or long-term durability.
How it is likely to suit a buyer
Useful everyday features on paper
A 300 ml tank and 40 g continuous-steam rating give buyers concrete figures to compare with other irons. The 130 g steam-shot figure is a separate advertised burst rating; it should not be read as continuous output. The three-metre cord may be helpful when the outlet is not close to the ironing board, while three-way auto shut-off and self-clean are useful features to check against your needs. None of these specifications alone proves how well the iron handles a particular fabric or how easy it is to use.

Comfort and results remain unverified
The available manufacturer materials do not state the RHC940’s weight or provide test results for soleplate glide, steam consistency, button effort or reliability. If hand comfort matters, check the exact unit in person or confirm the retailer’s return terms. Those are especially important checks because feedback about another Steamglide Ultra model cannot establish how this one feels or performs.

- Prepare the tank before first use. Fill and empty it with clean water, then refill it. Prime the steam-burst and spray functions as directed in the manual.
- Expect a possible first-use smell or light vapour. The manual says these can occur while the element cures.
- Stay below the maximum fill mark. Do not overfill the tank.
- Use the correct temperature range for steam. For steam ironing, set the temperature above the silk/wool setting so the iron is in its steam range.
- Choose water according to your local conditions. The manual permits tap water. In hard-water areas, it recommends distilled water marked as suitable for irons.
- Use the manual’s cleaning directions. The iron has a self-clean function, but the feature sheet alone does not explain its procedure; follow the instructions supplied with the RHC940.
Does the 20551AU review data apply?
No. ProductReview.com.au’s page is for the related Steamglide Ultra 20551AU, not a confirmed RHC940 listing. That page labels the 20551AU discontinued and displays a 3.6 rating from 16 reviews. Neither the rating nor the reported experiences should be attributed to the RHC940.

Comments on the 20551AU page are mixed: some users praise steam, cord reach and glide, while others describe a heavy feel, a difficult steam-shot button or reliability problems. These are individual, self-selected accounts about a different model identifier. They can suggest questions to ask when inspecting an iron, but they do not establish RHC940 performance or reliability.

Availability and what to verify before buying
Russell Hobbs Australia’s current irons page lists other models but does not include the RHC940 in the page material reviewed. That absence does not prove the iron is unavailable from retailers. Current exact-model stock, price and an Amazon listing were not confirmed, and the manufacturer’s $39.95 RRP is historical rather than a verified current offer.
- Confirm that the product listing and the box identify the exact model as RHC940, not 20551AU or another regional variant.
- Check the unit’s condition, seller, current price and return policy.
- Confirm that the warranty applies in your country and that the seller’s terms match your expectations; the cited warranty materials are for Australia/New Zealand.
- Compare the advertised steam ratings, tank capacity, soleplate material, cord length, shut-off and cleaning guidance with the specific alternatives you are considering.
- If possible, assess the iron’s weight and button comfort in person, since the manufacturer materials do not state its weight and related-model reviews cannot answer that question for the RHC940.
Verdict
The RHC940’s published feature set is straightforward: 2400 W, a 300 ml tank, 40 g continuous steam, a 130 g steam shot, ceramic non-stick soleplate, three-metre cord, self-clean and three-way auto shut-off. It may be worth considering if a current seller can confirm the exact model, condition and applicable warranty at a price you find reasonable. The evidence available does not support a tested-performance recommendation: comfort, ironing results and durability for the RHC940 remain unverified, and feedback for the 20551AU should not be used as a substitute.
