There isn’t one shared remote setup for Claude Code and OpenAI Codex on Windows 11. Claude Code can run on your Windows PC through WSL or native Windows with Git Bash; reaching that PC from elsewhere requires a separate remote-access method. Codex offers Remote Control on Windows, an SSH connection to remote development machines announced as an alpha feature, and Codex Cloud, which runs tasks on OpenAI-managed computers. Choose based on where you want the code and runtime to live.
Choose the remote setup that matches your goal

Set up Claude Code on Windows 11
Anthropic documents Windows 10 and later with WSL 1, WSL 2, or Git for Windows. The Windows setup guide describes two routes: run Claude Code inside WSL, or use native Windows with Git Bash. Windows 11 is within the documented version range.
Check the prerequisites and authentication
The setup guide lists Node.js 18 or later and at least 4 GB of RAM among the requirements. Claude Code also needs internet access for authentication and AI processing. Before you try to use your PC remotely, make sure the Windows environment has an authentication route supported by your account or organization.
Anthropic describes authentication through Anthropic Console, a Claude account with an eligible Pro or Max plan, or enterprise platforms such as Amazon Bedrock and Google Vertex AI. Availability depends on your account and organization. Follow the current Claude Code setup instructions for installation in the environment you choose.

Understand what “remote” means for Claude Code
Claude Code runs in the environment where you install it. Its command-line features include interactive sessions, print mode, continuing or resuming sessions, additional working directories, and permission modes, as described in the CLI reference. Those local CLI capabilities do not, by themselves, provide a remote-control service or configure network access to the Windows PC.
To reach a Claude Code session on your own PC from another location, you need a separate way to access that Windows environment. Anthropic’s cited setup documentation does not provide a dedicated remote-control workflow for Claude Code on Windows 11, so it should not be treated as official guidance for configuring Windows as an SSH or Remote Desktop host.

Use Codex from or toward a Windows device
OpenAI lists Codex clients including the ChatGPT desktop app in Codex mode, the Codex CLI, an IDE extension, and Codex web. Its help page says Codex on Windows includes Remote Control and lets users select a WSL distribution. The feature is subject to workspace permissions and the device’s discovery and control settings; organizations may also manage which app build is available.
For current access details, consult OpenAI’s Codex help page. The exact controls available can depend on the app build, account, organization, and device settings, so verify them in your current setup rather than assuming every Windows installation has identical options.

Connect Codex to a separate development machine
OpenAI announced SSH connections from the Codex desktop app to remote development machines as an alpha feature on April 16, 2026. This option is for work where the development environment is on a separate host, rather than on the Windows PC you are controlling. The announcement does not provide a complete Windows 11 connection tutorial, and alpha availability can change; confirm the feature is exposed in your current Codex app and account before planning around it.

Use Codex Cloud when the task should run off your PC
Codex Cloud runs coding tasks on OpenAI-managed computers using reusable cloud environments. Because the work runs in a hosted environment, a cloud task can continue while your own computer sleeps. That is different from remote access to a task running on your Windows device, which depends on that device and its access settings.

What these options do not provide
- There is no documented shared remote mode that launches Claude Code and Codex together or synchronizes a session between them.
- The Anthropic setup and CLI documentation cited here explain Windows installation and local CLI capabilities, not a Claude Code-specific remote-control service.
- The cited OpenAI SSH announcement identifies an alpha capability but does not establish a complete Windows 11 setup procedure.
- Codex Cloud is a hosted task environment, not remote access to your own Windows computer.
