To run a Socrative Space Race, select a quiz with correct answers, open Launch > Space Race, set teams and any optional time limit, then start the activity. Students join with the displayed QR code or the room name. You can watch progress in Results and finish the race to gather reports.
Before you start: check the quiz answer key
Choose an existing Socrative quiz or prepare one before launching the race. Make sure correct answers are selected for its questions. Socrative’s Space Race guide, updated May 5, 2026, warns that the rockets will not move unless the quiz has correct answers specified.
Set up the Space Race
- Open the activity: In the teacher interface, go to Launch and select Space Race.
- Choose the quiz: Select the quiz you checked or prepared.
- Set the teams: Choose how many teams to use. You can let students choose a team or have Socrative auto-assign them. Auto-assignment attempts to divide students evenly when there are more students than teams; it does not guarantee equal team sizes.
- Choose how students participate: Students can work individually on their own computer or mobile device, collaborate around one shared device, or join the same team on separate devices.
- Choose the race icon and timing: Select an icon for the race. A time limit is optional and can be set for up to 45 minutes, according to the Space Race guide.
- Start the race: Review the setup and launch the activity.
Help students join the activity
After launch, use Invite Students to show the activity QR code, or ask students to open the Socrative Student app and enter the room name. Socrative’s quick-start guide describes joining by QR code or room name without basic student account setup.

Monitor the race and finish it
Open the Results tab to follow team progress. You can project that screen so the class can see how the race is progressing; a projector is optional, and an existing classroom display or screen sharing can serve the same purpose.
When you are ready to end the activity, click Finish to gather reports or return to Launch. If you set a time limit, the guide says the race ends when time expires or when the teacher removes the limit.

Choose settings that fit your class
- Individual or collaborative play: Use individual participation when students should answer independently. Choose a shared device or separate devices on one team when they should collaborate.
- Student-selected or auto-assigned teams: Let students choose when team selection is part of the activity, or use auto-assignment when you want Socrative to attempt an even split.
- Timed or untimed: Set a limit when the activity needs a defined end time; otherwise, leave the race untimed and finish it yourself.
Socrative’s product overview describes support for up to twenty simultaneous quizzes, polls, exit tickets, or Space Races. That is a platform-wide simultaneous-activity capacity, not the number of teams allowed in one race.
