For most gaming buyers, the GeForce RTX 5070 is worth paying up to roughly 30–40% more for. Tom’s Hardware measured a 32% average lead at 4K across 21 games, with a typical advantage of 25–30%. The RTX 5060 Ti 16GB becomes the better choice when it is substantially cheaper, when power efficiency is a priority, or when a workload genuinely needs more than 12GB of VRAM.
The decision in one sentence
Choose the RTX 5070 if its local price is no more than about 30–40% above the RTX 5060 Ti 16GB and your priority is higher frame rates, ray tracing, or creator compute. Choose the 16GB RTX 5060 Ti when the 5070’s premium is larger, your games or applications are VRAM-limited, or your system has tighter power and cooling limits.
This is a value decision, not simply a specification contest. The RTX 5070 has substantially more shader and memory-throughput capacity, while the RTX 5060 Ti 16GB has a one-third larger framebuffer. The right card depends on whether your bottleneck is rendering speed or memory capacity.

How much faster is the RTX 5070 in games?
4K results show the clearest gap
Tom’s Hardware tested 21 games: 15 rasterization tests and six ray-tracing tests. At 4K, the RTX 5070 was 32% faster on average. Individual game results ranged from the RTX 5070 being 5% slower to 43% faster, so the average is not a guarantee for every title.
The same review describes a more typical 25–30% advantage for the RTX 5070. That range is a useful expectation for a mixed modern-game library, but the result depends on the engine, graphics settings, ray-tracing workload, and whether the 5060 Ti reaches a VRAM limit.
1440p is the practical target for both
Neither model is primarily a native-4K-ultra card. Both are better matched to 1440p, where the 5070’s additional compute resources can support higher settings and more consistent frame rates. DLSS can render internally at a lower resolution and reconstruct the image, while Frame Generation can add generated frames in supported games. These features improve perceived smoothness, but they do not remove the underlying difference in native rendering performance.
Crashes, No Sound, or Screen Glitches?
Random freezes, missing sound and display glitches usually trace back to one bad driver. Find and replace yours safely.Free scan · under a minuteWindows Errors? Fix Them Before They Spread
Repair common Windows errors and clear accumulated junk for a smoother, more stable PC - no reinstall needed.Free scan · no reinstallAt 1440p, a CPU-limited game or a very high-refresh monitor can reduce the visible gap between the cards. Conversely, ray tracing, heavy particle effects, high-resolution textures, and demanding post-processing can increase the 5070’s advantage. Treat the 4K result as a measure of overall GPU headroom rather than a promise of a fixed 32% uplift at every resolution.
Ray tracing favors the 5070’s extra hardware
Ray-traced effects use dedicated RT cores as well as shader and memory resources. The RTX 5070 has 48 RT cores compared with 36 in the 5060 Ti 16GB, alongside the wider bus and higher bandwidth. If you intend to use ray tracing regularly, the 5070’s performance margin is generally more valuable than the 5060 Ti’s extra capacity, provided the game’s texture package does not exceed 12GB.
Professional and AI workloads are also faster on the RTX 5070
Blender
In Tom’s Hardware’s Blender results, the RTX 5070 achieved an overall geometric-mean score of 2,004.9 versus 1,387.7 for the RTX 5060 Ti 16GB. That is a 44.5% advantage for the 5070. Rendering applications that keep the entire scene within available VRAM can therefore benefit substantially from the 5070’s compute and bandwidth.
Machine learning inference
In MLPerf, the RTX 5070 delivered 111.7 tokens per second compared with 84.2 for the 5060 Ti 16GB, a 32.8% lead. Those numbers describe the tested workload, not every local-AI model. A model that fits in 12GB can take advantage of the 5070’s speed; a model that needs more than 12GB may require the 16GB card, lower-precision settings, offloading, or a different GPU.
When the 16GB card is the faster practical option
VRAM capacity can determine whether a project runs at all. Large texture sets, high-resolution video timelines, complex 3D scenes, and local models with large weights can exceed 12GB. If the 5070 starts swapping data through system memory while the 5060 Ti keeps the workload resident, the nominally slower card can deliver the better experience. Confirm the application’s actual memory requirement rather than assuming that more VRAM always produces higher frame rates.
VRAM capacity versus memory bandwidth
What the RTX 5060 Ti’s 16GB provides
The RTX 5060 Ti 16GB has 16GB of GDDR7 on a 128-bit bus. Compared with the 5070, that is 4GB more capacity, or one-third more VRAM. Capacity is most important when textures, geometry, caches, or model weights would otherwise spill out of GPU memory.
Extra VRAM can extend the useful life of a card as game assets grow, but it does not automatically make the GPU faster. The 5060 Ti still has fewer compute units and lower bandwidth, so it may need reduced effects or a lower internal resolution even when its memory capacity is sufficient.
What the RTX 5070’s bandwidth provides
The RTX 5070’s 192-bit bus and 672GB/s bandwidth are 50% higher than the 5060 Ti 16GB’s 128-bit bus and 448GB/s. Higher bandwidth helps the GPU feed its larger shader array and RT hardware, especially in high-resolution rendering and effects-heavy scenes. It is the main reason a 12GB 5070 can outperform a 16GB 5060 Ti when both workloads fit comfortably in memory.
How to identify a VRAM-limited workload
- Monitor dedicated GPU-memory usage while running the exact game, scene, or model at your intended settings.
- Look for stutter, texture pop-in, unusually long asset loads, or a sharp performance collapse after raising texture quality.
- Test lowering textures alone. If that restores smoothness without changing resolution or effects, capacity is likely the constraint.
- Check the software’s documented minimum and recommended VRAM requirements for the version you use.
Price: calculate the premium before choosing
Launch pricing
Tom’s Hardware listed launch prices of $429 for the RTX 5060 Ti 16GB and $549 for the RTX 5070. The 5070 was therefore about 28% more expensive at launch, almost exactly matching its typical 25–30% gaming advantage. At those prices, the 5070 is the stronger value unless you specifically need 16GB.
Street prices in 2026 are unusually variable
TechSpot’s July 2026 US survey averaged the RTX 5060 Ti 16GB at $570, or 33% above its $430 MSRP, and the RTX 5070 at $600, about 9% above its $550 MSRP. That snapshot makes the 5070 only about 5% more expensive than the 5060 Ti 16GB, making the faster card the obvious performance-per-dollar choice.
Tom’s Hardware later reported RTX 5070 medians of roughly $850–$900 in an August 2026 Newegg survey. That is a different retailer and time period from TechSpot’s July averages, so it should not be blended into one universal price. Board partner, country, tax, stock, and seller can change the calculation substantially.

| RTX 5070 price | Reasonable RTX 5060 Ti 16GB ceiling | Interpretation |
|---|---|---|
| $550 | About $425 | Close to the launch-value relationship |
| $700 | About $500–$540 | Allows roughly a 30–40% 5070 premium |
If the 5070 is only 30% more expensive, its measured performance and stronger creator results usually justify the difference. At a 50% or larger premium, the 5060 Ti 16GB becomes more compelling unless you need the 5070’s speed for work or high-refresh gaming. At extreme shortage pricing, compare specific cards rather than relying on MSRP.
Which card fits each type of buyer?
Buy the RTX 5070 for high-refresh 1440p gaming
The 5070 is the better choice for a 1440p monitor with a high refresh rate, especially if you want ray tracing, maximum presets, or more headroom for future games. Its 48 SMs, 6,144 shaders, 48 RT cores, and 672GB/s bandwidth give it room to sustain demanding settings longer.
Buy the RTX 5060 Ti 16GB for a discounted mainstream build
The 5060 Ti 16GB makes sense when the price gap is large and your target is conventional 1440p gaming with sensible settings. It also suits a system where 180W board power is easier to cool or where the power supply has less spare capacity.
Buy the 16GB model for memory-heavy creation or local AI
If your workflow regularly approaches or exceeds 12GB, capacity is the deciding specification. The 16GB card can avoid out-of-memory errors and system-memory transfers that undermine responsiveness. Do not buy it solely because “16GB” sounds faster; verify that your applications benefit from the additional capacity.
Consider the RTX 5070 for GPU rendering
Blender’s 44.5% overall lead and MLPerf’s 32.8% tokens-per-second lead show that the 5070’s extra compute is useful outside games. If the projects fit in 12GB, paying the 5070 premium can reduce render or inference time. If they do not fit, the 5060 Ti’s capacity may be more important than the benchmark advantage.
Do not choose on VRAM alone for ordinary gaming
For a typical 1440p library that stays below 12GB, the 5070’s bandwidth and compute resources matter more than the 5060 Ti’s additional 4GB. Conversely, do not dismiss the 16GB card if your specific titles use large texture packs or your modded games show clear memory pressure.

Board power
The RTX 5070 has a 250W total board power rating, while the RTX 5060 Ti 16GB is rated at 180W. The 70W difference affects heat output, cooler size, case airflow, and the amount of power-supply headroom available for the CPU and other components.
Power supply planning
Use the exact power-supply recommendation for the board-partner card you are buying, because factory-overclocked models can differ from the reference specification. For a new build, an ATX 3.x supply with a native 12V-2×6 cable is a sensible compatibility choice for modern GeForce cards. Avoid forcing a connector or relying on a loosely seated adapter; route the cable without sharp bends at the plug and confirm that every connector is fully inserted.
Case and cooler checks
- Measure the card’s physical length, height, and slot thickness against your case before ordering.
- Check whether front-mounted radiators, drive cages, or side panels obstruct the GPU.
- Provide unobstructed intake and exhaust airflow; a larger 5070 cooler may occupy more slots than a compact 5060 Ti design.
- Compare the board partner’s warranty, fan-stop behavior, noise target, backplate, and connector placement.
These details are model-specific. Two cards with the same GPU name can have different cooler dimensions, connector locations, factory clocks, and warranty terms.
A practical buying procedure
- Record the exact local prices. Use the final checkout price in your country, including tax and delivery, and compare cards with similar warranty coverage.
- Calculate the premium. Divide the RTX 5070 price by the RTX 5060 Ti 16GB price and subtract one. A result around 0.30–0.40 is the normal range in which the 5070’s performance is worth considering.
- Check your target resolution and refresh rate. For 1440p high-refresh gaming or frequent ray tracing, favor the 5070. For moderate settings and a larger discount, the 5060 Ti can be sufficient.
- Measure VRAM demand. Check your games, texture packs, 3D scenes, video projects, or AI models. If they exceed 12GB, prioritize the 16GB card or move to a higher-tier GPU with more memory.
- Verify power and physical fit. Confirm the board power, PSU capability, connector, card dimensions, and available airflow for the exact model.
- Compare the complete card, not only the GPU. A quieter cooler, longer warranty, or better connector placement can justify a small price difference between board partners.
Common mistakes to avoid
Assuming the 5070 is always 32% faster
The 32% figure is a 4K average across a defined 21-game test suite. Individual results ranged from 5% slower to 43% faster. Use it as a benchmark for the class of performance difference, not as a fixed multiplier for every title.
Comparing MSRP with a sale price
A launch MSRP comparison is useful for understanding the original value proposition, but it does not tell you which card is cheaper today. Use contemporaneous prices from the same market and account for the exact model.
Treating generated frames as equivalent to rendered frames
DLSS 4 and Multi Frame Generation can increase displayed frame rates, but generated frames do not replace the latency and rendering work of native frames. Compare games using the settings and technologies you actually intend to use.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsIgnoring memory behavior until after purchase
VRAM shortages often appear as stutter or texture problems rather than a simple average-frame-rate result. Test the intended settings and texture packs before deciding that a 12GB card is sufficient.
Final recommendation
The RTX 5070 is the default recommendation when its real purchase price is within roughly 30–40% of the RTX 5060 Ti 16GB. It is about 32% faster at 4K on average in Tom’s Hardware’s 21-game testing, typically 25–30% faster, and materially quicker in the cited Blender and MLPerf workloads. Its wider bus, 50% greater bandwidth, and additional compute units also make it the more durable choice for ray-traced 1440p gaming.
The RTX 5060 Ti 16GB is the smarter purchase when the 5070 is heavily inflated, when 16GB is necessary for your textures, scenes, or local models, or when your 180W power envelope is easier to accommodate than the 5070’s 250W rating. Compare the actual local price and the actual memory requirement; those two checks resolve most 5060 Ti-versus-5070 decisions.
