Short answer: NVIDIA rates the reference GeForce RTX 3090 Ti at 450 W and recommends an 850 W system power supply. MSI publishes the same 450 W and 850 W figures for its RTX 3090 Ti SUPRIM SE and Gaming X Trio, each with one 16-pin connector. EVGA’s GeForce RTX 3090 Ti K|NGP|N Hybrid Gaming (model 24G-P5-4998-KR) is identified as a hybrid-cooled card, but its exact board power limit and connector arrangement are not established by the available specifications. Gigabyte’s RTX 3090 Ti Gaming 24G is an air-cooled design with three 100 mm fans, a vapor chamber and eight composite copper heat pipes.
Those published figures describe designs and requirements, not a temperature, noise or power-draw ranking. There are no matched test results here that justify saying the K|NGP|N runs cooler, quieter or uses more power than the other cards. Treat every number as model-specific, and verify the current manual before buying cables or planning a build.
What is being compared
An RTX 3090 Ti GPU is not a complete board specification. NVIDIA defines a reference electrical target, while each add-in-board manufacturer can choose its own PCB, firmware, cooler, connector implementation and power limits. A comparison therefore needs to separate four things:
Recommended Free Tools
- GPU reference power: NVIDIA’s baseline for the RTX 3090 Ti.
- Board-specific power: the rating and limits published for a particular card.
- Power delivery: the connector and cable arrangement required by that board.
- Cooling hardware: air or hybrid construction, heat-transfer hardware, fans and installation requirements.
The cards discussed here are the EVGA GeForce RTX 3090 Ti K|NGP|N Hybrid Gaming, MSI RTX 3090 Ti SUPRIM SE 24G, MSI RTX 3090 Ti Gaming X Trio 24G and Gigabyte RTX 3090 Ti Gaming 24G. The K|NGP|N in this article is the RTX 3090 Ti model 24G-P5-4998-KR; it must not be confused with EVGA’s earlier RTX 3090 K|NGP|N.

- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
The useful comparison axes are therefore the published card-power rating, recommended system PSU, connector arrangement, cooler construction and physical installation requirements. A cooler name or a connector shape cannot substitute for a board manual, and a reference specification cannot be assumed to describe every partner card.

Power: what the 450 W figure actually means
NVIDIA’s reference target
NVIDIA lists 450 W as the RTX 3090 Ti graphics-card power and 850 W as the recommended system PSU. The 850 W recommendation is based on a system configured with an Intel Core i9-10900K, so it is a baseline rather than a universal guarantee. NVIDIA notes that a lower-rated PSU may work depending on the rest of the system.
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
The 450 W value describes the graphics card, not the amount consumed by the whole computer. The system recommendation has to cover the processor, motherboard, storage, fans, USB devices and conversion losses as well as the GPU. A processor or other component with a higher demand than the example configuration can reduce the margin that an 850 W supply provides.
The reference specification also lists 10,752 CUDA cores, 24 GB of GDDR6X memory and a 384-bit memory interface. Those figures identify the GPU class; they do not tell you the board’s firmware power limit, transient behavior or cooler performance.
Connector guidance
For the reference card, NVIDIA describes two connection paths: three separate PCIe 8-pin cables used with the included adapter, or a PCIe Gen 5 cable rated for at least 450 W. The wording is important: the adapter and cable arrangement are part of the reference guidance, while add-in-board manufacturers can implement a different connector.
“Three cables” should be read as a wiring instruction, not merely a count of plugs at the power supply. Follow the manual’s directions for independent PCIe leads and adapter seating, and never use a cable intended for a different modular-PSU family. A plug that fits physically does not prove that its pinout or rating is suitable.
Do not treat a single connector standard as proof that every RTX 3090 Ti board has the same electrical limits. Connector count, adapter requirements and cable instructions must come from the specific card and power-supply documentation.
MSI’s SUPRIM SE and Gaming X Trio
MSI lists both the RTX 3090 Ti SUPRIM SE 24G and Gaming X Trio 24G at 450 W, with an 850 W recommended PSU and one 16-pin power connector. These are board-level specifications for those MSI SKUs. They should not be generalized to every RTX 3090 Ti, including the K|NGP|N.

The identical published figures make the two MSI models straightforward for initial PSU planning, but they do not show whether their firmware power ceilings, transient response or sustained consumption are identical. Those details require the individual BIOS and a controlled measurement, not just the headline wattage.
What is and is not known about the K|NGP|N
The EVGA product identity is established as the GeForce RTX 3090 Ti K|NGP|N Hybrid Gaming, part 24G-P5-4998-KR. However, the available technical information does not establish its exact connector arrangement, factory power limit or recommended PSU rating. It is therefore incorrect to copy the figures from the older RTX 3090 K|NGP|N onto this RTX 3090 Ti.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsThe missing figures matter most to owners who intend to raise the power target, run a heavily overclocked processor, or use a compact power supply. Before connecting the card, confirm the label and manual for the exact 24G-P5-4998-KR board. If a listing uses only “KINGPIN” without the full model number, treat that as an identification problem until the seller supplies the precise part number.
Cooling: hybrid K|NGP|N versus air-cooled alternatives
What “Hybrid Gaming” establishes
EVGA’s product name identifies the K|NGP|N as a Hybrid Gaming card. That distinguishes it from a conventional all-air board, but the available specification does not provide enough detail to calculate radiator capacity, pump speed, fan curve, radiator dimensions or expected temperatures. A hybrid card also introduces installation questions that an air-only card does not: radiator mounting position, tubing route, available case mounts and clearance around the radiator and fans.
Those factors can determine whether the intended cooling hardware fits your case and receives cool intake air. They are practical compatibility checks, not evidence that the K|NGP|N is automatically cooler or quieter. A radiator that fits only in a restricted position may behave differently from one mounted with unobstructed airflow, so the case layout is part of the cooling decision.
Check the radiator location against the motherboard, memory, front-panel hardware and side panel before purchase. Also account for tubing reach and the direction in which the card must be installed. No model-specific clearance measurement is established here, so the case manufacturer’s mount dimensions and EVGA’s current installation instructions remain authoritative.
Gigabyte RTX 3090 Ti Gaming 24G
Gigabyte describes its RTX 3090 Ti Gaming 24G as an air-cooled card with a WINDFORCE 3X cooler. The design uses three 100 mm fans, one vapor chamber and eight composite copper heat pipes. It also supports semi-passive fan operation, allowing the fans to stop under light enough loads according to the card’s control logic.
This gives a clear hardware contrast with the K|NGP|N’s hybrid designation: Gigabyte’s card places the primary heat-transfer assembly on the card and uses three large fans, while EVGA’s name indicates a hybrid approach. Hardware descriptions alone do not establish which card has the lower GPU or memory temperature in a particular case.
Semi-passive operation is a control feature, not a guarantee of silence in every workload. Fan-stop behavior can end when GPU, memory or board temperatures rise, and the resulting fan ramp depends on the card’s firmware and the surrounding case airflow. The specification confirms the feature but does not provide a decibel level or a temperature threshold.

MSI SUPRIM SE and Gaming X Trio
The MSI pages cited for the SUPRIM SE and Gaming X Trio establish their 450 W board rating, 850 W PSU recommendation and one 16-pin connector. The available figures do not include a matched test set for GPU temperature, memory temperature, acoustics or sustained power draw against the EVGA or Gigabyte cards. Their model names should therefore be treated as product identities, not as proof of a thermal ranking.
Even when two cards carry different cooler branding, a fair comparison needs the same fan mode and power target. A factory overclock, a different BIOS profile or a different memory temperature can change results independently of the heatsink’s appearance.
Why a reliable temperature or noise ranking is not possible here
Graphics-card temperatures and noise depend on more than the cooler name. A valid comparison would need the same workload, room temperature, case, intake and exhaust fans, card orientation, driver version, power limit, fan-control mode and measurement method. Memory and hotspot temperatures should also be reported separately from the average GPU temperature.
Power should be measured at the same point as well. A software-reported board value, a connector measurement and a wall-meter reading answer different questions. Without stating the measurement location and workload duration, two apparently precise wattage figures may not be comparable.
The available manufacturer pages do not provide such a matched data set for these cards. Consequently, statements such as “the K|NGP|N is cooler than the Gaming X Trio,” “the Gigabyte card is quieter,” or “the hybrid card draws a specific maximum wattage” are unsupported by the available evidence.
If you find a third-party review, check whether it reports ambient temperature, case model, fan settings, BIOS mode, GPU and memory readings, and test duration. Results that omit those controls can still describe that reviewer’s build, but they should not be treated as a universal ranking of the four cards.
How to choose the right power setup
- Identify the exact board. Read the model number on the box or card. For the EVGA model discussed here, the relevant identity is 24G-P5-4998-KR, not an RTX 3090 K|NGP|N listing.
- Open the current manual. Confirm the required connector, adapter arrangement, PSU recommendation and any restrictions on cable use.
- Check the rest of the system. NVIDIA’s 850 W reference recommendation assumes an Intel Core i9-10900K. A higher-power processor, multiple drives, pumps, fans or USB-powered devices can change the system requirement.
- Use separate PSU cables where the instructions require them. For NVIDIA’s reference arrangement, that means three PCIe 8-pin cables feeding the included adapter. Do not substitute a cable layout merely because it physically plugs in.
- Confirm cable and connector ratings. A PCIe Gen 5 cable used for the reference path must be rated for at least 450 W. For a partner board, follow that board’s documentation instead.
- Inspect airflow before installing the card. An air-cooled card needs unobstructed intake and exhaust space. A hybrid card additionally needs a suitable radiator location and a tubing route that does not interfere with the side panel or other components.
- Test after installation. Check that the system starts without connector warnings, monitor GPU and memory temperatures under the intended workload, and listen for pump or fan behavior before changing power limits.
- Recheck after any firmware or hardware change. A BIOS update, replacement PSU, new case fan layout or changed overclock can alter the conditions under which the card operates. Record the card’s original settings before experimenting.
Common mistakes and how to avoid them
Using the older RTX 3090 K|NGP|N specification
Reference pages for the RTX 3090 K|NGP|N concern a different GPU generation and board. They cannot establish the RTX 3090 Ti K|NGP|N’s connector arrangement or factory power limit.
Reading “850 W recommended” as a measured draw
An 850 W recommendation is a system-PSU guidance figure, not a claim that the graphics card continuously consumes 850 W. NVIDIA’s 450 W figure is the reference graphics-card power; the PSU recommendation includes the processor and the rest of the computer.
Assuming a 16-pin connector proves identical power behavior
MSI’s two listed models use one 16-pin connector, but connector count alone does not reveal firmware limits, transient handling or cooling capacity. It also does not establish that the EVGA board uses the same arrangement.

Choosing by cooler type alone
A hybrid label and an air-cooler parts list describe construction. They do not account for radiator placement, case airflow, ambient temperature, fan curves or workload. Check fit and installation requirements first, then seek measurements made under comparable conditions.
Confusing a component rating with a system requirement
The 450 W graphics-card figure and 850 W system-PSU recommendation belong to different levels of the specification. Using the former as a whole-system budget or the latter as a predicted GPU draw can lead to the wrong conclusion about capacity.
Buying an unverified cable or adapter
Do not choose an accessory solely from a photograph or a generic connector description. Match the exact card, PSU model and cable rating, and follow the supplied manual. The reference adapter path and a partner board’s arrangement may not be interchangeable.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Which card makes sense for which build?
If you need a known power baseline
The NVIDIA reference specification and the two MSI pages provide explicit 450 W card-power and 850 W PSU figures. That makes them easier to use for preliminary PSU planning, while the exact manual remains authoritative for final wiring.
If you are considering a hybrid installation
The K|NGP|N is the relevant option among the named cards because it is identified as a Hybrid Gaming model. Select it only after verifying its current connector, power-limit and radiator requirements for model 24G-P5-4998-KR. Do not assume a thermal or acoustic advantage without comparable measurements.
If you prefer a self-contained air cooler
Gigabyte’s RTX 3090 Ti Gaming 24G is explicitly described as air-cooled and specifies its three 100 mm fans, vapor chamber, eight composite copper heat pipes and semi-passive operation. Those details help with design and fit decisions, but they still do not predict a universal temperature or noise result.
If your case has limited radiator space
The Gigabyte card’s documented air-cooling approach avoids the separate radiator-mounting question raised by a hybrid design. That does not automatically make it the better thermal choice; it simply changes the installation constraints. Measure card length, slot occupancy and airflow paths for the exact chassis before ordering.
Price, availability and replacement parts
Current stock, street prices and listing accuracy can change, especially for older RTX 3090 Ti models. Confirm that a listing names the exact EVGA 24G-P5-4998-KR or the precise MSI or Gigabyte SKU before comparing prices. A lower price on a similarly named RTX 3090 K|NGP|N is not evidence that it is the RTX 3090 Ti model.

Bottom line
On published power figures, NVIDIA’s reference RTX 3090 Ti and MSI’s SUPRIM SE and Gaming X Trio are all documented at 450 W with an 850 W recommended system PSU; MSI specifies one 16-pin connector for each. Gigabyte documents a substantial air cooler for its RTX 3090 Ti Gaming 24G. EVGA’s RTX 3090 Ti K|NGP|N Hybrid Gaming is clearly a hybrid-cooled, model-specific board, but its exact power limit and connector details are not established by the available specifications. The honest comparison is therefore about documented requirements and cooler architecture—not a claimed winner for temperature, noise or real-world wattage.
