ROLLA is Steam Deck Playable and SteamOS Compatible. SteamDB’s current record says the default controller configuration exposes every function, Deck button icons appear on screen, and the default graphics configuration performs well. Start with those defaults; the main adjustment you may need is improving the readability of small in-game text.

The record is a practical starting point rather than a promise that every future build will behave identically. If you install a newer build, judge it by the same checks: does the game launch, do the controls expose every action, do prompts use Deck glyphs, and does the default profile remain comfortable to play?
What to use before changing anything
Keep the default game profile
Launch ROLLA with the game’s default graphics configuration and Steam Input’s default controller setup. This is the only title-specific performance recommendation documented for Deck. Changing several options at once makes it difficult to identify whether a problem came from a setting, an update, or the control profile.
Use the Deck’s native display target
Valve’s compatibility guidance for reviewed games uses the Deck’s default display modes of 1280×800 or 1280×720. Treat those as the initial target for ROLLA rather than assuming that an external monitor resolution or a custom render scale is required. No published ROLLA test establishes a higher-resolution performance profile.

Do not expect unsupported performance numbers
No cited ROLLA source publishes a measured frame-rate cap, FSR recommendation, battery estimate, frame-time chart, or per-option benchmark. Those figures should not be treated as known settings for this game. If you want to tune beyond the defaults, change one option at a time and keep your previous value available so you can reverse the change.
Best graphics-settings workflow
Step 1: Confirm the baseline
- Install the current retail build from Steam and let SteamOS finish any pending update.
- Start ROLLA without applying a community graphics profile or a custom launch command.
- Leave the in-game graphics configuration at its default values.
- Play long enough to encounter the game’s normal movement, effects, and menus before deciding that a change is necessary.
This baseline reflects the configuration that SteamDB reports as performing well. It also gives you a clean reference if a later update introduces a problem.
Step 2: Check readability before image quality
The documented caveat is that some in-game text can be small on the Deck’s seven-inch screen. If the game is running smoothly but menus or instructions are difficult to read, solve the visibility problem first rather than lowering unrelated visual settings.
- Try SteamOS display scaling if the text remains difficult to read.
- Move the Deck slightly closer or use a better-lit viewing position.
- Look through the game’s own accessibility or display menus for a text-size option, but do not assume one exists; no ROLLA-specific text-size toggle is documented.
Scaling can make interface elements easier to see, but it is a comfort adjustment, not a measured ROLLA performance tweak.

Step 3: Change only a setting that addresses an observed problem
If you see a visual issue or a performance drop, record what happened and which screen or activity triggered it. Change one available graphics option, return to the same situation, and compare. Avoid presenting a personal preference—such as a sharper image or darker effect—as a universal Deck recommendation when the compatibility record only validates the defaults.
Step 4: Restore the baseline when tuning makes things worse
- Return every changed graphics option to its default value.
- Close and relaunch ROLLA so the game reloads its profile.
- Test again before making another change.
Because there is no published option-by-option benchmark, the default profile is the most defensible recovery point.
Control layout: why the default is the right first choice
SteamDB reports complete functionality with the default controller configuration and confirms that ROLLA displays Steam Deck controller icons. That combination means the normal gamepad profile should expose the game’s actions without requiring a community layout or manual keyboard bindings.

Recommended first-launch procedure
- Open ROLLA from the Deck library and start it with the default Steam Input/gamepad configuration.
- Keep the gamepad glyphs enabled so the prompts correspond to the buttons you are pressing.
- Play through the opening interaction and a normal level section, checking movement, camera or aim functions, confirmation, cancellation, pause, and any action the game introduces.
- Only remap an input after identifying a specific action that feels uncomfortable or is difficult to reach.
Do not rely on an unnamed community layout or an exact button chart unless a current source documents it. The compatibility result establishes that the default profile works; it does not establish one preferred custom arrangement.
How to make a personal Steam Input adjustment
SteamOS labels can vary by version, but the route is the game’s library page, the controller or Steam Input settings entry, and then the layout editor. From there:
- Open ROLLA’s controller settings from its library page.
- Choose the active gamepad layout and inspect the action you want to change.
- Assign the alternative button, stick direction, trigger, or back-button input that is more comfortable for you.
- Save the personal layout and return to the game.
- Test the remapped action in a safe area before changing another input.
Keep a note of the original assignment. A personal layout can solve reach or comfort issues, but it is not evidence that the stock configuration is incomplete.

ROLLA can also be played with a keyboard and mouse or with a keyboard alone, according to the official store description. Use those modes if you are docked, prefer physical keys, or need a control arrangement that the gamepad profile cannot provide. On the built-in Deck controls, however, the documented default gamepad profile is the least complicated starting point.

Small text on the Deck screen
Text size is the one explicit usability warning in the current compatibility record. It does not mean that the game is unplayable; it means that a seven-inch display can make some labels or instructions harder to read at the default viewing distance.
A practical readability checklist
- Check text in menus as well as during gameplay; a readable scene does not guarantee readable interface labels.
- Use SteamOS display scaling if you need larger interface elements.
- Adjust viewing distance and lighting before changing graphics quality.
- Look for an in-game text or accessibility control, while recognizing that no ROLLA-specific size control is documented.
- If a particular screen remains illegible, record its name and report it with the game version rather than assuming a graphics-performance fault.
Historical Deck issue: an earlier demo report
A Steam Community discussion about an earlier ROLLA demo described visual corruption on Deck, including a black box accompanied by audio after a level began. That is user-reported, build-specific evidence from an older demo, not the current retail compatibility verdict.
How to handle a similar symptom today
- Confirm that you are running the current retail build rather than an old demo branch.
- Restart the game and reproduce the issue once with the default graphics profile.
- Check the installed build and note whether the problem occurs at launch, when entering a level, or after a specific action.
- Capture the symptom and report the build number through the game’s current support or Steam discussion channel.
The newer SteamDB record rates tested build 25370039 as Playable and SteamOS Compatible, so the demo report should not be used to label the current release broken. It is useful as historical context if the same visual corruption reappears.

The official store lists Windows minimum requirements of Windows 10, an Intel i7-4700MQ at 2.40 GHz, 8 GB of RAM, and an NVIDIA GeForce GT 740M. Those figures describe the Windows PC listing; they are not a Steam Deck benchmark and should not be converted into a promised frame rate, battery runtime, or graphics preset.

How to judge a future update
Compatibility labels are tied to a tested build, so a future patch deserves a quick recheck rather than an assumption that the old result still applies. Use this sequence after a major update:
- Note the new game version or build shown by Steam.
- Launch with the default graphics and controller profiles.
- Verify that Deck glyphs still appear and that every essential action responds.
- Check a text-heavy menu for legibility.
- Play a representative section and watch for visual corruption, crashes, or a change from the previous default behavior.
If all five checks pass, there is no evidence-based reason to replace the defaults with a custom profile. If one fails, record the exact build and symptom so reports can distinguish a current retail regression from the earlier demo issue.
