The 2025 ROG Xbox Ally X is a large, contoured handheld: 290.8 × 121.5 × 50.7 mm (11.42 × 4.76 × 2.00 inches at its maximum thickness) and 715 g. The most clearly documented fit is ASUS’s ROG Xbox Ally (2-in-1) Premium Case, whose specification sheet names both ROG Xbox Ally and ROG Xbox Ally X as compatible devices.
That compatibility should not be extended automatically to every case sold for an “ROG Ally” or the 2024 ROG Ally X. The 2025 Xbox-branded model has a different chassis, thicker grip area and rear controls, so a case needs explicit model support or interior measurements that account for those features.

The apparently different thickness figures are not conflicting specifications. ASUS’s 2.75–5.09 cm range describes the body profile, while 50.7 mm is the maximum envelope a molded case must clear. A sleeve that is only as deep as the thinner center or edge section can press against the handles, triggers or rear buttons.
Which case is confirmed to fit?
ASUS ROG Xbox Ally (2-in-1) Premium Case
ASUS’s premium case is the strongest documented choice because its accessory specification sheet explicitly lists both “ROG Xbox Ally” and “ROG Xbox Ally X” as storable devices. Its external dimensions are 320 × 155 × 100 mm. Those are the outside measurements of the case, not the usable cavity, so they should not be used as a substitute for an interior-clearance measurement when evaluating another product.

The case includes a memory-card pocket and additional accessory pockets. It also has a removable AC-adapter pocket, allowing you to carry the charger separately or remove that bulge when you want a slimmer case. ASUS lists the case at approximately 485 g, including the removable adapter pocket. A device and fully equipped case therefore approach 1.2 kg before adding other travel items.
Cases marketed specifically for the 2025 model
A third-party case whose listing names “ROG Xbox Ally X (2025)” is a better starting point than one that only says “ROG Ally.” Before ordering, confirm that the seller has designed clearance around the two contoured grips, Hall Effect triggers, analog sticks and the two assignable rear grip buttons. Those controls are part of the redesigned exterior and can be damaged or held under pressure by a shallow molded insert.
Why older ROG Ally X cases are not a guaranteed fit
The 2024 ROG Ally X measures 280 × 111 × 24.7–36.9 mm and weighs 678 g. Compared with the 2025 ROG Xbox Ally X, it is approximately 10.8 mm narrower and 10.5 mm shorter at the headline width and length dimensions, and it uses a different thickness envelope.

A case molded around the 2024 shell can also position its thumbstick openings, trigger recesses and rear-button cutouts incorrectly. Treat 2024 “Ally X” compatibility as unproven unless the seller explicitly includes the 2025 Xbox Ally X or publishes internal measurements that accommodate the newer shape.

Hardware details that affect case clearance
Grip profile and controls
The Xbox Ally X has full-size analog sticks, Hall Effect triggers and two assignable grip buttons on the rear. These parts extend the practical clearance requirement beyond a simple length, width and thickness check. A rigid shell that fits the outer outline can still interfere with a trigger travel path or press a rear button continuously.
Screen and front opening
The device uses a 7-inch 1080p display with a 120 Hz refresh rate. A fitted case should leave the entire screen bezel and front controls unobstructed. For a hard-shell design, check that the rim does not overlap the display area or contact the sticks when the lid closes.
Included accessories
ASUS includes a 65 W charger and a stand with the handheld. Decide whether both must travel inside the case. A compartment sized only for the console may be a good fit for daily carrying but not for the supplied charger and stand. The official premium case addresses this by providing accessory storage and a removable AC-adapter pocket.
How to verify a third-party case before buying
- Read the exact model line. Look for “ROG Xbox Ally X (2025)” or an equivalent designation. “ROG Ally,” “ROG Ally X” or “Ally case” alone does not establish compatibility.
- Find interior measurements. Compare the cavity’s length, width and maximum depth with the handheld’s 290.8 × 121.5 × 50.7 mm envelope. If the seller gives only external case dimensions, ask for the usable interior size.
- Check the deepest area, not just the average depth. The grips reach the 50.7 mm maximum. A case can be long and wide enough while remaining too shallow through the handles.
- Inspect control cutouts. Confirm room for both sticks, Hall Effect triggers and the two rear grip buttons. A product photograph should show these recesses or a full open cavity rather than relying on a generic outline.
- Account for a protective film or shell. If you use a screen protector or snap-on cover, reserve that added thickness when comparing measurements. No universal allowance is published, so do not assume one.
- Confirm the return policy and regional stock. Retail availability, sellers and prices change. Buy from a listing that allows a return if the device does not sit without pressure or the lid cannot close naturally.
Choosing between a sleeve, molded case and travel case
Soft sleeve
A soft sleeve is usually the least restrictive option because its fabric can conform to the grip profile. It is suitable when the main goal is preventing scratches inside a backpack, but protection against crushing or a direct impact depends on the sleeve’s padding and construction. Do not infer protection level from the word “sleeve” alone; inspect the stated materials and closure.

Rigid molded case
A molded case can hold the handheld securely and protect it from pressure, but its cavity must match the 2025 shell. Look for shaped recesses around the handles and rear buttons. A rigid lid that contacts a stick, trigger or grip button is a poor fit even if the case technically closes.
Large travel case
A travel case is useful when you carry the 65 W charger, stand, memory cards and cables with the console. Compare the total outside size and empty-case weight with your bag. The ASUS premium case’s 320 × 155 × 100 mm external envelope and approximately 485 g mass illustrate the trade-off: more organized storage, but more volume and weight than a console-only sleeve.

“It says Ally X, so it must fit.”
There are two different generations under similar names. The 2024 ROG Ally X and 2025 ROG Xbox Ally X do not share the same published dimensions. Replace the assumption with an explicit 2025 model reference or verified interior measurements.
Using the average thickness
The ASUS centimetre listing includes a 2.75–5.09 cm range because the chassis is contoured. Measuring only the thinner portion can result in a case that compresses the grips. Use the 50.7 mm maximum when checking depth.

Ignoring rear buttons
The two assignable grip buttons sit on the back where a flat insert may apply constant pressure. Test a case with the device powered off: the handheld should rest in its recess without any button being held down, and the lid should close without force.
Fitting the charger by guesswork
The included 65 W charger is a separate object with its own cable bulk. If a case advertises an accessory pocket but gives no dimensions, verify that the pocket can hold the charger and plug without bending the lid or pressing the display.
A practical fit test after delivery
- Place the handheld in the cavity with no cable attached and check that the bottom and both grips sit fully in their recesses.
- Close the lid gently. Stop if you feel resistance before the zipper, clasp or hinges reach their normal position.
- Open the case and inspect the sticks, triggers and rear grip buttons for contact marks or compressed padding.
- Operate each control once the device is removed. A trigger or rear button that feels sticky may have been held under pressure.
- Add the charger, stand and other accessories only after the console itself passes the clearance test. Arrange them so their edges cannot press into the screen or controls.
If any step fails, do not force the case closed. Photograph the fit, retain the packaging and use the seller’s return process; a case that requires pressure is not made compatible by repeated use.

Bottom line for buyers
For the 2025 ROG Xbox Ally X, choose a case that names the model directly or provides interior clearance for its 290.8 × 121.5 × 50.7 mm, 715 g body and its contoured grips and rear controls. ASUS’s ROG Xbox Ally (2-in-1) Premium Case is the documented fit and adds storage for memory cards, accessories and the 65 W adapter. A case made for the smaller 2024 ROG Ally X, or a generic “ROG Ally” case, should be treated as unverified until the seller confirms the newer model and the necessary interior space.
