Rowan can use the financial information already available in your Rocket Money account and in the bank, card, loan, investment, or other accounts you connected and authorized. It is not a universal window into every account you own. The exact fields Rowan can use depend on those connections and the permissions you granted.
You can control that access in layers: revoke the Google connection, unlink individual financial accounts, turn down Rowan-related messages, delete your Rocket Money account, or submit a formal privacy request. Rocket Money does not document one master switch that disables every Rowan capability at once, so the right control depends on what you want to stop.
What Rowan is and why the connected-account detail matters
Rowan is Rocket Money’s AI-powered financial assistant. Rocket Money includes it with Premium+ for the primary user. Rowan communicates through text or RCS and can answer questions about money, explain spending, organize eligible transactions, review budgets, track trials, help with subscriptions and bills, and manage some preferences, including notifications and connected Gmail access.

That description does not mean Rowan automatically sees every financial record you have. Its usable scope follows the information in your Rocket Money account and the external accounts you chose to connect. If a bank, card, or other institution is not linked to Rocket Money, Rowan has no Rocket Money connection through which to use that institution’s data. If you later remove a connection, the account-level access path is revoked.
#1 Best Overall
The practical rule is simple: Rowan can work with what you put inside Rocket Money and what you authorize Rocket Money to retrieve. The product documentation does not promise that every institution exposes every field, so the available information can vary by provider, account type, and permission.
What financial data Rowan can use
| Data source | Examples of information Rowan may use | What determines access |
|---|---|---|
| Rocket Money account | Information already present in your Rocket Money profile, budgets, transactions, subscriptions, bills, alerts, and preferences | Whether the information exists in your account and is available to the enabled Rowan feature |
| Connected financial accounts | Transaction data and related account information returned through a linked bank, card, or other institution | The specific institution connection, the data it returns, and the authorization you granted |
| Google account or Gmail connection | Data used to identify and organize financial transactions, subscriptions, and billing information from the enabled Google integration | The Google OAuth scopes requested for the feature and your approval in Google’s consent flow |
| Preferences and notification settings | Choices about alerts, tips, updates, and certain connected-account preferences | The settings you change in Rocket Money’s app or website |
These categories describe potential use, not a guarantee that Rowan can read every field at every provider. Rocket Money’s own terms say the data available to a Google-connected feature depends on the scopes needed for the features you enabled. The same principle applies to financial-account connections: the connection supplies the data Rocket Money receives, and Rowan works within that available set.
What the scope does not imply
- It does not imply a search across accounts that you never linked to Rocket Money.
- It does not mean Rowan receives your bank sign-in name or password through Rocket Money’s standard connection flow.
- It does not give Rowan unrestricted authority to send money, change an account, or perform any other consequential task without your direction and authorization.
Can Rowan read your Gmail?
Rowan can use a Google connection when you enable a Rocket Money feature that needs it and approve Google’s OAuth consent screen. Rocket Money’s terms state that it requests only the scopes necessary for enabled features and only after you grant permission through Google’s OAuth flow.
In practical terms, a Gmail connection is permission-based rather than an always-on, all-purpose mailbox grant. The permitted scope is tied to the feature you enabled. Rocket Money describes the purpose as identifying and organizing financial transactions, subscriptions, and billing information. If you did not connect Google or did not approve the requested scope, Rowan does not obtain Gmail data through that connection.
You can revoke this permission in either of two places:
Rank #2
- Ideal for Gifting
- Ideal for a bookworm
- Compact for travelling
- From the Rowan conversation, using the control Rocket Money provides for the Google or Gmail connection.
- From your Google Account security settings, where you can remove Rocket Money’s access to the account.
Rocket Money says associated data is deleted after Google access is revoked, except where retention is required for legal, security, or dispute-resolution reasons. Revoking access prevents the connection from continuing to supply data; it does not override a retention obligation that applies to information already held.
Does Rowan know your bank password?
Rocket Money says it does not store your bank login information. In its bank-connection flow, Plaid receives the credentials and returns a secure, encrypted token that allows Rocket Money to view transaction data. Rowan therefore does not receive your bank username or password through Rocket Money’s connection process.

The relevant point for a Rocket Money connection is that the credentials are handled by the connection provider and Rocket Money receives a tokenized connection for the data the institution makes available. If you are uncomfortable with a particular linked account, unlink that account in Rocket Money rather than sharing credentials with Rowan in a message.
What Rowan can do, and where your approval is required
Rowan can answer questions and provide explanations without taking an external action. For supported workflows, it can also help organize transactions and budgets, track free trials, and initiate subscription, cancellation, refund, or bill-related processes.
Rocket Money’s help documentation states: “Rowan requires both your direction and authorization before taking any action on your behalf.” Rowan asks for confirmation before an eligible action proceeds. Rocket Money also warns that Rowan may make mistakes, so you should check names, amounts, dates, recipients, cancellation terms, and any other consequential detail before confirming.
Rank #3
This approval boundary matters when you are deciding whether to leave a connection enabled. Seeing or organizing information is different from authorizing an action. You still control whether a supported action is initiated, but confirmation is not a substitute for reviewing the details yourself.

Privacy controls, compared by scope and reversibility
| Control | Scope reduced | How reversible it is | Timing and coverage |
|---|---|---|---|
| Revoke Google or Gmail access | The Google connection used by enabled Rocket Money features | Reversible by reconnecting and granting permission again | Stops that Google authorization; Rocket Money says associated data is deleted except where legal, security, or dispute-resolution retention applies |
| Unlink a financial account | One connected bank, card, or other financial-account connection | Usually reversible by linking the account again | Rocket Money describes revoking financial-information access as simple and immediate; it is narrower than deleting your Rocket Money account |
| Turn off notifications | Messages and alerts, not the underlying account data | Fully reversible with the same toggle | Changes communication frequency; it does not revoke a financial or Google connection |
| Delete the Rocket Money account | The whole Rocket Money account and associated data | Not presented as a temporary pause; treat it as a permanent account action | Rocket Money says associated data is deleted, subject to applicable retention obligations |
| Submit a privacy-rights request | Personal-data rights across the service | Depends on the request and applicable law | Can request access to, deletion of, or correction of personal data through Rocket Money’s privacy process |
Because these controls operate at different layers, turning off alerts will not disconnect Gmail, and unlinking one card will not remove a separate Google authorization. Use the narrowest control that matches your goal.
How to revoke Rowan’s Google or Gmail access
Use this path when you want to stop Rowan from using the Google connection while keeping your Rocket Money account and other financial links.
- Open the Rowan conversation in Rocket Money.
- Find the control for the connected Google or Gmail account and choose the option to revoke or remove access.
- Confirm the revocation when Rocket Money presents the confirmation step.
- Open your Google Account security settings and check the list of third-party connections. If Rocket Money still appears, remove its access there as well.
- Review the Rowan thread after revocation. Do not approve a new Google consent request unless you intentionally want to reconnect it.
Rocket Money says data associated with the revoked Google access is deleted, with exceptions for legal, security, or dispute-resolution requirements. If your objective is to remove personal data beyond the Google connection, use the account-deletion or privacy-request process described below.
How to stop access from one bank or card
Unlinking is the targeted option when Rowan should continue working with some information but not with a particular institution.
Rank #4
- Open Rocket Money’s area for connected financial accounts.
- Select the bank, card, or other account you no longer want connected.
- Choose the unlink, disconnect, or revoke-access option shown for that connection.
- Confirm the change and verify that the account no longer appears as connected.
- Repeat for each institution you want removed; unlinking one account does not automatically unlink the others.
Rocket Money describes revoking access to financial information as simple and immediate. This control stops that connection from supplying new information. It is not the same as deleting your entire Rocket Money account, so use a privacy request if you need a broader data-rights action.
How to reduce Rowan messages without disconnecting data
If the problem is message volume rather than data access, change notification settings instead of unlinking accounts.
- In the Rocket Money mobile app, open Settings > Notifications & Alerts.
- On the Rocket Money website, open Settings > Notifications.
- Review the separate toggles for alerts, tips, and updates.
- Turn off the categories you do not want, then leave enabled only the communications you still find useful.
These toggles control communications. They do not revoke Rowan’s permission to use connected financial or Google data, and they do not delete information already held in your account.
How to delete your Rocket Money account
Account deletion is the broadest documented self-service control. Rocket Money states that deleting a Rocket Money account deletes associated data, subject to retention obligations described in its policies.
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
- Review any pending subscription, bill, refund, or cancellation workflow before deleting the account.
- Save records you are legally or practically required to keep, such as confirmation numbers or tax-related transaction information.
- Use Rocket Money’s account settings to start the deletion process.
- Read the confirmation screen carefully and confirm that you intend to remove the account rather than merely turn off notifications.
- After deletion, do not reconnect the account unless you are deliberately creating or restoring access under Rocket Money’s then-current terms.
Deletion is different from a temporary Rowan pause. The documentation does not describe it as a reversible “disable AI” switch. Retention exceptions can also mean that some information must remain for a legally specified purpose.

How to make a formal privacy request
Use Rocket Money’s privacy-rights request process when you want to exercise a broader personal-data right or need the company to address information that is not handled by a single connection toggle. Rocket Money says its online request process can be used to request access to, deletion of, or correction of personal data.
- Open Rocket Money’s privacy-rights help page and select the online request process.
- Choose the right—access, deletion, or correction—that matches your objective.
- Describe the relevant Rocket Money account and, if applicable, the Google or financial-account connection involved.
- Submit the request and keep the confirmation or case details for your records.
- Follow any identity-verification or clarification steps Rocket Money requests.
A privacy request is broader than turning off a notification and can cover personal data across the service. The result and timing depend on the request and any applicable legal requirements.
Which control should you choose?
You want Rowan to keep budgeting but not use Gmail
Revoke the Google connection only. Leave the financial-account links that supply the transaction data you still want Rowan to analyze, and verify the Google authorization is also removed from your Google security settings.
You distrust one institution connection
Unlink that individual financial account. This preserves other Rocket Money connections while stopping the selected account’s access path.
You want fewer texts but still want analysis
Change the notification toggles. Do not mistake a quiet inbox for a revoked data connection.
You want to leave Rocket Money entirely
Delete the Rocket Money account and review the retention language. If you need a specific access, correction, or deletion request, submit the privacy request as well.
You are looking for one “turn off Rowan” button
Rocket Money’s documented controls are layered rather than a single universal Rowan switch. Apply the Google, financial-account, notification, or whole-account control that corresponds to the data or communication you want to stop.

Common misunderstandings and safer practices
- “Rowan sees all my money.” Its scope follows the accounts and permissions you connected. It is not described as a universal view of every account you own.
- “If I stop notifications, Rowan cannot access data.” Notification settings affect messages and alerts; they do not unlink accounts.
- “Unlinking one card deletes everything Rocket Money knows.” Unlinking is an account-level connection control. Use account deletion or a privacy-rights request for broader data handling.
- “A confirmation means the result is guaranteed.” Rowan asks for direction and authorization, but Rocket Money warns that it may make mistakes. Review consequential details before confirming.
- “Rowan needs my bank password.” Rocket Money says it does not store bank login information; Plaid handles the credential exchange and returns an encrypted token for the connection.
Troubleshooting checklist
- If Gmail data still appears available, revoke the connection in both the Rowan thread and Google Account security settings.
- If a bank continues to appear, check each connected institution; unlinking one account does not remove another.
- If messages continue after changing a toggle, verify whether you changed alerts, tips, updates, or all three, and check both the app and website settings where applicable.
- If you need deletion beyond a single connection, do not rely only on a notification toggle; use account deletion or the privacy-rights request process.
- If Rowan proposes a cancellation, refund, bill, or subscription action, verify the target, amount, date, and terms before granting authorization.
