For most homes, the Roborock Saros 20 is the better cleaner. RTINGS found it stronger across floor types and more effective at lifting pet hair from carpet. Choose the Dreame X50 Ultra instead if your floors are frequently cluttered, avoiding obstacles with minimal intervention is your top priority, or its current sale price is decisive. Threshold dimensions, mop systems, dock automation and regional pricing can change which model fits your home.

Quick verdict

What matters most Better choice Why
Overall cleaning Roborock Saros 20 RTINGS’ named verdict favors the Saros 20 across surface types.
Pet hair on carpet Roborock Saros 20 RTINGS says it lifts pet hair more effectively from carpets.
Obstacle avoidance in clutter Dreame X50 Ultra RTINGS found the X50 navigated clutter more reliably and required fewer interventions.
Published suction claim Neither can be declared the winner from Pa alone Roborock advertises 36,000 Pa and Dreame 20,000 Pa; these are different manufacturers’ figures, not a standardized head-to-head test.
Very tall, two-layer thresholds Roborock Saros 20, on the published geometry Roborock specifies up to 3.46 inches for a double-layer threshold. Dreame’s figures use different single-step and multi-step conditions.
Lower price when checked Dreame X50 Ultra The US listing showed a $999.99 sale price against a $1,599.99 list price when checked.

The short version is performance versus convenience: Saros 20 for demanding cleaning, carpets, pets and unusual thresholds; X50 Ultra for homes where toys, cables and other clutter cause more trouble than embedded dirt.

Cleaning performance and pet hair

What independent testing says

RTINGS gives the clearest direct comparison: “If cleaning performance is your priority, the Saros 20 is the stronger cleaner across all surface types, and lifts pet hair from carpets more effectively. If you have a cluttered home and obstacle avoidance matters more to you, the X50 navigates more reliably and won’t require you to intervene as often.” That is the most useful tie-breaker because it compares the two robots rather than treating each manufacturer’s specification as a shared standard.

TechRadar’s hands-on testing also found very good pickup from loose tea, dry oats and dog hair on mid-pile carpet and tile. Those observations support the idea that both machines can handle ordinary dry debris, but they do not overturn RTINGS’ overall advantage for the Saros 20 or establish a laboratory score for every floor type.

Why the suction numbers do not settle the question

Roborock advertises 36,000 Pa for the Saros 20. Dreame advertises 20,000 Pa for the X50 Ultra’s Vormax system. Pascal figures describe pressure under a manufacturer’s chosen measurement setup; they do not tell you how much debris a complete robot, brush, filter and airflow path will collect from a particular carpet. Brush design, sealing, navigation and repeated passes all affect the result. Treat the numbers as product specifications, not as a standardized ranking.

Carpets, hard floors and mixed homes

If your home combines rugs, low-pile or mid-pile carpet and hard flooring, the Saros 20 is the safer performance choice based on RTINGS’ across-surface verdict. The X50 remains a capable cleaner, and TechRadar’s tea, oats and dog-hair trials produced very good pickup, but the evidence does not support choosing it for superior deep cleaning. Select it when its navigation behavior solves a larger practical problem.

Obstacle avoidance and how often you will intervene

Dreame X50 Ultra: the clutter specialist

The X50 Ultra is the stronger choice for rooms that are not consistently tidy. RTINGS found it navigated clutter more reliably and needed fewer user interventions. Dreame specifies retractable legs for obstacles up to 2.36 inches and a VersaLift mechanism that lowers the robot to 3.5 inches to pass under low furniture. Those features address different problems: the legs help with raised objects, while the lowered profile helps with clearance beneath furniture.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Dreame also specifies a DuoBrush designed to handle hair up to 11.8 inches. That is a brush-system claim, not a guarantee that a long strand will never wrap or that the robot will require no maintenance. Long hair still needs periodic inspection of the brush, side brush and wheels.

Roborock Saros 20: better cleaning, but clear the floor anyway

The Saros 20 is not the recommended model for maximum clutter tolerance. Its advantage is cleaning performance, not a demonstrated lead in obstacle navigation. Cables, socks, pet toys and small objects can still stop any robot or force it to avoid an area. A short pickup routine before a run is worthwhile even with advanced object recognition.

What “obstacle avoidance” does not mean

Obstacle avoidance does not make either robot a reliable stair guard, toy sorter or guarantee against every wire and irregular object. It also does not eliminate the need to keep dock approaches clear. If the robot repeatedly abandons a room, note whether the cause is an object, a threshold, insufficient clearance or a map boundary rather than assuming the vacuum motor is at fault.

Thresholds and door saddles: measure before buying

Roborock’s published condition

Roborock specifies maximum crossing of a 3.46-inch double-layer threshold for the Saros 20. The “double-layer” qualification matters: a broad, stepped or layered doorway is not equivalent to one vertical ledge of the same height. Confirm that your doorway resembles the geometry used in Roborock’s specification.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Dreame’s two different figures

Dreame specifies 4.2 cm for a maximum single-step crossing. It also cites up to 6 cm when there is a gap greater than 4 cm between steps. Dreame identifies these as in-house laboratory results and warns that actual results may vary. The 6 cm figure therefore cannot be read as a universal ability to climb one 6 cm wall.

Additionally, the anti-tangle omnidirectional wheels eliminate the need for manual hair removal, significantly boosting cleaning efficiency and making maintenance effortless.
  • 𝗖𝗼𝗿𝗻𝗲𝗿 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗘𝗱𝗴𝗲 𝗖𝗹𝗲𝗮𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴: The FlexiArm Riser Side Brush & Mop automatically extends to reach difficult corners and low spaces under furniture, sweeping away dust with ease. As it detects corners and edges, the mop extends to provide thorough, efficient cleaning. This design ensures comprehensive coverage, effectively eliminating blind spots and leaving every area spotless.
  • 𝗜𝗻𝗱𝘂𝘀𝘁𝗿𝘆-𝗙𝗶𝗿𝘀𝘁 𝗔𝗱𝗮𝗽𝘁𝗶𝗟𝗶𝗳𝘁 𝗖𝗵𝗮𝘀𝘀𝗶𝘀: The innovative AdaptiLift Chassis, featuring left/right wheels and omnidirectional wheels, effortlessly navigates obstacles up to 4 cm high, including thresholds and U-shaped furniture legs. When carpets are detected, the Dual Spinning Mops and mop bracket automatically lift to prevent wetting long-pile carpets. During recharging, the main and side brushes are raised to avoid dirt transfer onto the floor, delivering a quiet and pristine mopping experience.

A practical measuring procedure

  1. Measure the vertical rise of each doorway, not just the horizontal depth of the saddle.
  2. Record whether the threshold is one step, two layers or a sequence of steps.
  3. For a multi-step threshold, measure the horizontal gap between steps; the X50’s 6 cm condition requires more than 4 cm.
  4. Check the approach from both rooms. A robot may climb from one side and fail to descend from the other if the profile differs.
  5. Compare your measurements with the manufacturer’s stated geometry, and keep a manual solution for any doorway that falls outside it.

Do not compare 3.46 inches and 4.2 cm as if they were measurements from the same test. They describe different threshold types and conditions. If a door saddle is near either limit, a physical trial or retailer return policy is more dependable than a specification alone.

Mopping and dock automation

Saros 20 mop system

The standard Saros 20 uses two rotating mop cloths. Its dock is specified to wash them with 212°F (100°C) water and dry them with 131°F air. The system also provides automatic detergent dispensing, dust emptying, water refilling and dock self-cleaning. Those functions reduce routine handling, but they do not make the dock maintenance-free: tanks, filters, trays and dirty-water paths still need inspection.

Do not confuse this model with the separate Saros 20 Sonic variant. The Sonic version uses VibraRise 5.0 and 14 N of downward pressure; those details do not describe the standard Saros 20’s dual rotating mops.

X50 Ultra PowerDock

The X50 Ultra includes an automated PowerDock and a mop-cleaning system with multiple cleaning modes. The official material reviewed for this comparison does not provide a directly comparable mop-wash temperature, so it is not possible to claim that one dock sanitizes or cleans mop pads better from temperature figures alone.

TechRadar observed reliable mop-pad removal for vacuum-only runs, which is useful when you want to vacuum rugs without wetting them. It also noted that the rotating side brush did not lift during a mop-only pass. That behavior may matter if you use a dedicated mopping cycle around edges or in rooms where the side brush could spread damp debris.

Which dock is easier to live with?

Both designs automate the chores that most often make robot mops inconvenient: emptying, refilling and washing. The Saros 20 has more explicitly published wash and dry specifications. The X50’s attraction is its broader navigation and dock automation rather than a documented temperature advantage. Whichever you choose, leave clearance around the dock, empty or refill containers when prompted, and clean the dock’s wash area on the schedule shown in its app.

Size, clearance and charging

Tom’s Guide lists the Saros 20 at 15 × 18 × 19 inches, with an 11-pound robot and a 23-pound dock. It reports a 2.5-hour charging time and a 0.66-gallon bin. The order of the listed dimensions is not identified as height, width and depth in the supplied specification, so measure your proposed dock location rather than relying on one orientation.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

A comparable robot and dock size, bin capacity and charge time for the X50 Ultra are not established here. Dreame’s 3.5-inch VersaLift clearance figure is a robot-height specification for passing under furniture, not the size of the dock or the robot in its normal operating configuration. Check the current regional manual for installation clearances before placing either dock in a cabinet or tight hallway.

App, voice control and smart-home use

The Saros 20 is reported to support Alexa, Siri and Google Home. That makes it suitable for voice routines such as starting a scheduled clean or sending the robot home, subject to the capabilities and region of the connected platform. The available product information does not establish an equivalent list of X50 Ultra voice platforms, nor does it provide a feature-by-feature app comparison.

For either robot, map quality and firmware can change after setup. Give the vacuum a complete mapping run, label rooms consistently, and check no-go zones around water bowls, cables and delicate floor coverings. If a feature shown in a review is missing from your app, verify the country, firmware version and account region before treating it as a hardware defect.

Price and regional value

United States prices when checked

Model Price evidence How to interpret it
Roborock Saros 20 US MSRP of $1,599.99, reported by Tom’s Guide List price, not a guarantee of the current checkout price.
Dreame X50 Ultra $999.99 sale price versus $1,599.99 list price on Dreame’s US page A promotional price observed when checked; sale duration and stock can change.

Tom’s Guide reports a European Saros 20 MSRP of €1,499. The supplied pricing evidence does not establish a corresponding X50 Ultra price for Europe or other countries. Taxes, shipping, bundles, retailer warranties and regional accessories can change the real total.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

At the observed US sale price, the X50 costs substantially less upfront while offering the navigation advantage. If both models are at or near list price, the Saros 20’s cleaning lead may justify the difference for homes with pets and carpet. Recheck the price immediately before purchase; a temporary sale should not be treated as the permanent value of the product.

Maintenance, consumables and service considerations

Routine work neither dock eliminates

  • Inspect the main brush, side brush and wheels for wrapped hair and thread.
  • Clean sensors and charging contacts so mapping and docking remain reliable.
  • Empty or rinse tanks and trays as directed, and allow washable parts to dry fully.
  • Replace filters, mop pads, dust bags or brushes at the intervals shown for your region and usage.
  • Keep the dock approach free of shoes, toys and loose cables.

Exact replacement-part compatibility, consumable pricing and warranty terms are region-specific and are not stated in the available comparison evidence. Before buying, confirm that your local support channel covers the model, that replacement mop pads and dust bags are sold for the exact variant, and that the warranty applies to the country where you will use it. The standard Saros 20 and Saros 20 Sonic should not be assumed to share every accessory.

Choose the right model for your floor plan

Choose the Roborock Saros 20 when:

  • Pet hair on carpet is a primary problem.
  • You want the stronger independently reported cleaning performance across surfaces.
  • Your home has tall or layered thresholds that match Roborock’s published 3.46-inch double-layer condition.
  • You value explicitly specified hot-water mop washing, warm-air drying and automatic detergent handling.
  • You can keep the floor reasonably clear before runs.

Choose the Dreame X50 Ultra when:

  • Cables, toys and other clutter are common and you want fewer rescue trips.
  • Low furniture requires the 3.5-inch VersaLift profile.
  • Your raised objects suit the retractable-leg design, within Dreame’s stated limits.
  • The observed $999.99 US sale price is available and materially changes your budget.
  • Your thresholds match Dreame’s 4.2 cm single-step condition or its qualified multi-step geometry.

When neither is an obvious fit

If your thresholds exceed the published conditions, your dock must fit inside a shallow cabinet, or your home requires a specific voice platform not documented for the model you are considering, pause before ordering. A cheaper robot that cannot reach half the floor is poor value, and a premium robot that cannot dock in its assigned location will need more manual work than its feature list suggests.

Common buying mistakes and how to avoid them

  1. Ranking by Pa alone. Compare independent cleaning results and your floor types instead of treating 36,000 Pa and 20,000 Pa as laboratory equivalents.
  2. Using the biggest threshold number without its condition. The X50’s 6 cm figure requires a gap greater than 4 cm between steps; it is not a single 6 cm ledge rating.
  3. Assuming the Sonic specifications apply to every Saros 20. VibraRise 5.0 and 14 N belong to the separate Saros 20 Sonic variant.
  4. Assuming a dock means zero maintenance. Automated washing and emptying reduce handling but do not replace tray, brush, filter and sensor care.
  5. Budgeting from a temporary promotion. Record whether a price is sale or list, then verify stock, shipping, taxes and warranty in your country.
  6. Skipping a clearance test. Measure furniture height, dock space and both sides of each threshold before unboxing.

Bottom line: Saros 20 for cleaning, X50 Ultra for autonomy around clutter

Buy the Roborock Saros 20 if your priority is the cleanest result, especially with pets, carpet or difficult thresholds that fit its stated geometry. Buy the Dreame X50 Ultra if obstacle avoidance and fewer interventions matter more, or if its current US sale price is the deciding advantage. Neither manufacturer’s suction figure is a standardized score, and threshold claims use different test conditions, so your floor plan should decide the purchase more than the headline specifications.
