A Roblox decal ID identifies an image asset you can apply to a surface in Roblox Studio. The image’s behavior depends on which object you use: a Decal stretches across one face, while a Texture repeats across a surface. The figure of 23,756 refers to a third-party catalog’s reported inventory—not Roblox’s official total of decal images.
What a Roblox decal ID does
A decal ID is a unique reference to an image asset. Roblox assets are cloud-based and can be referenced in Studio using a format such as rbxassetid://123456789. The number identifies the asset; it does not describe what is pictured or guarantee that the image is currently available to you. See Roblox’s asset documentation.
After importing an image, Studio assigns it an asset ID. You can then select the image in the relevant content field or enter its asset reference when applying it to a Decal or Texture. The asset’s privacy permissions determine where it can be used.

What the 23,756 figure means
Gamelevate reported on September 22, 2026, that RBLXDB, an independent fan project, had a catalog containing 23,756 decal IDs. This is a reported count of that third-party catalog at the time of publication, not an official Roblox-wide count or a census of every image asset. The report says the catalog is organized by image theme; its inventory can change. Gamelevate’s report describes RBLXDB as unaffiliated with and not endorsed by Roblox Corporation.

Decal or Texture: which should you use?
Choose based on how you want the image to cover the surface. Roblox defines a Texture as an image that repeats horizontally and vertically across a part or union’s face; a Decal stretches an image to fit one face. Roblox also documents scale and offset controls for Textures. Roblox’s textures and decals guide explains both objects.

How to apply an image asset in Studio
- Import the image: In Roblox Studio, use the Importer workflow. Studio assigns the imported image an asset ID.
- Choose the surface behavior: Add a Decal for an image that should stretch across one face, or a Texture for a repeating pattern.
- Set the image reference: Select or enter the image asset in the object’s content field. Asset references commonly use the form
rbxassetid://[ID]; replace[ID]with the asset’s number. - Check placement: For a Decal, confirm that its selected face is the face you want. For a Texture, adjust scale and offset if the pattern does not align as intended.
Why a decal ID may not work
A number that looks like an asset ID is not proof that the image can be used in a particular experience. Roblox says imported assets go through moderation before they can appear in published games, and privacy settings control who may use an asset. Assets still in moderation cannot yet be seen or interacted with in published games; an asset that fails moderation is not available in its current form. - Check the face: A Decal may be applied to a different face than the one you are viewing.
- Check access and moderation: Confirm that the asset’s privacy settings permit its use and that it has passed moderation.
- Reconsider third-party listings: A catalog entry can become stale or point to an asset you cannot access. A listing alone does not establish that an ID will work in your experience.
Roblox’s documentation supports privacy and moderation as reasons an image may not be visible. It does not establish a predictable expiration schedule for decal IDs or a universal failure rate.
