If you are choosing just one Risk of Rain 2 expansion, Survivors of the Void is the better default for players who want the Void theme, Railgunner’s precision gameplay, and a package built around corrupted items, enemies, and new stages. Choose Seekers of the Storm instead if its survivors—especially Seeker, Chef, or The False Son—or its Colossus progression appeal more to you. Both require the base game, and co-op ownership can affect which content your group can access.
Which Risk of Rain 2 DLC should you buy first?
For a first or single expansion purchase, Survivors of the Void is the more defensible all-around pick. Its Void-centered content includes Railgunner and Void Fiend, corrupted items, new enemies, and new stages. At the Steam snapshot accessed October 11, 2026, it also had a higher accumulated English review score and was temporarily discounted. Those storefront figures are snapshots, not a guarantee of quality or a permanent price.
Seekers of the Storm is the better fit if you are drawn to its three survivors, Seeker’s mix of damage and healing, Chef’s returning cleavers, The False Son, or the Colossus route. The choice is ultimately about which characters and gameplay ideas you want; there is no need to buy one simply because it came later.

Pick based on the survivor you want to play
Choose Survivors of the Void for precision or transformation
Railgunner suits players interested in deliberate aim, scoped shots, and hitting weak points. Void Fiend offers a different hook: corruption changes the survivor’s abilities. The expansion’s other content reinforces the same theme, with Void items, threats, and stages.
Choose Seekers of the Storm for healing, cleavers, or a durable fighter
Seeker’s damage-plus-healing role and ability to revive fallen allies are the clearest reasons to choose this expansion. Chef brings returning cleavers, while The False Son offers a durable close-range option. Its stages and Colossus progression provide another reason to favor its route through the game.

How co-op ownership works
Both expansions require the Risk of Rain 2 base game on Steam. According to the official Steam listings, one player owning an expansion enables its monsters, levels or stages, and items to appear for the whole lobby. A player who does not own it cannot select that expansion’s new survivors or permanently unlock its content. Check which expansions your group already owns before buying: lobby access to some content does not give every player the same survivor-selection and unlock access.

A quick decision
- Buy Survivors of the Void if Railgunner, Void Fiend, the Void theme, or its corrupted-item and stage package is what you want—or if its current price is the better fit.
- Buy Seekers of the Storm if Seeker, Chef, The False Son, or the Colossus progression is the main draw.
- Playing co-op? Compare ownership within your group before purchasing, since one owner can expose some expansion content to the lobby while nonowners still face survivor and permanent-unlock restrictions.
