Hallowed Concepts is a paid Risk of Rain 2 expansion released October 8, 2026. It requires the base game, but the available listings do not say that you need any earlier expansion. It adds two survivors and new stages, enemies, bosses, trials, items, and interactables. In co-op, one player’s purchase can bring its monsters, levels, and items into a lobby, but each player needs access to the expansion to select its new survivors or permanently unlock its content.
What is Hallowed Concepts?
Hallowed Concepts is downloadable content (DLC) for Risk of Rain 2, not a standalone game. Steam lists the base game as required. The Steam product page describes the expansion’s content and its co-op ownership rules: Risk of Rain 2: Hallowed Concepts on Steam.

The expansion launched on October 8, 2026. 2K’s October 8 patch notes list PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S as supported platforms. PlayStation also has an official PS5 listing. The sources available here do not establish Hallowed Concepts availability on Nintendo Switch or older-generation consoles; a listing for the base game on a platform does not confirm that this DLC is available there. Check the relevant storefront for current regional availability.

Survivors
The expansion introduces two survivors: Enforcer, unlocked by default, and Acolyte, which is unlockable. Players who do not own the expansion cannot select these new survivors.

Stages, enemies, and other content
2K describes new environments, bosses, enemies, trials, items, and interactables, along with the N’Tormat curio and new music. Its October 8, 2026 patch notes specify 14 Hexes and 11 Hallowed Items. These are the publisher’s launch counts, not estimates; see the 2K patch notes for October 8, 2026.
Does everyone in co-op need to own it?
No. Steam says one player needs to own Hallowed Concepts for its monsters, levels, and items to appear for the whole lobby. But that shared-run access does not give nonowners the expansion’s individual unlocks: players without it cannot select Enforcer or Acolyte, or permanently unlock new items, logbooks, or other expansion content. The Steam listing states both parts of this rule.

How does it fit with the other expansions?
Steam’s Risk of Rain 2 DLC catalog lists four named expansions in release order. The dates below are the catalog’s listed release dates for the three earlier expansions; Hallowed Concepts’ October 8, 2026 date is confirmed by its individual listing and 2K’s dated patch notes. Steam’s catalog page showed a stale “To be announced” entry for Hallowed Concepts when checked on October 9, 2026, so its individual listing and the publisher’s notes are stronger sources for its launch date.

The catalog places these expansions alongside one another, but that does not make the earlier DLC a prerequisite for Hallowed Concepts. The Hallowed Concepts Steam listing names the base game as required and does not list the other expansions as requirements. The available sources do not support ranking the expansions by quality or recommending a purchase order.

What was free in the same-day update?
The October 8 update also included changes to the base game and previous DLC. A change appearing in the same patch notes as Hallowed Concepts is not automatically paid expansion content. 2K’s patch notes distinguish the expansion’s additions from other update changes; consult them to identify which specific change applies to the base game or earlier DLC.

- PS5: The PlayStation Store listing identifies a PS5 version.
- Xbox Series X|S: 2K lists these consoles in its October 8, 2026 platform notes; check your Xbox storefront for the current listing in your region.
- Nintendo Switch or older consoles: The sources checked do not confirm Hallowed Concepts support. Nintendo’s Switch listing is for the base game, which is not evidence that this expansion is available for that platform.
Storefront prices and availability can vary by region and may change. The Steam page checked on October 9, 2026 displayed a localized PLN price, so it should not be treated as a universal price.
