If Riot Client says “Please close other Riot Games products before signing out,” close any running Riot games normally, then wait until the game’s status in Riot Client changes to Play. If the games already appear idle, exit and reopen Riot Client; restart Windows if the stuck status returns.
What the sign-out message means
The message appears during sign-out. A current third-party troubleshooting guide treats it as a case where Riot Client still believes a game is running, even when its visible window has been closed. That is a practical explanation, not a diagnosis confirmed by Riot: Riot’s current Riot Client FAQ does not address this exact message.
Riot says that, as part of its 2026 rollout, PC games launch through Riot Client even when started from existing desktop shortcuts. The client also provides shared access across Riot games, which makes checking its game status a useful troubleshooting step; it does not establish why a particular sign-out attempt is blocked.
How to clear the message safely
- Close any open Riot game normally. Use the game’s own menu to exit. Do not leave an active match just to sign out.
- Wait for Riot Client to show Play. Check the relevant game tab and let its status change from Playing to Play.
- Check other Riot games. If another game is still open, close it normally and wait for its status to return to Play as well.
- Restart Riot Client if all games look idle. Use the Riot Client icon in the Windows notification area to exit the client, reopen it, and try signing out again.
- Restart Windows if the state gets stuck again. Open Riot Client after the restart and retry.
- Update Riot Client and contact support if the problem persists. Riot’s FAQ recommends restarting the client and PC for launch problems and directs players to Player Support when standard steps do not resolve them. The FAQ does not give a separate fix for this sign-out message.
What not to do
Do not delete Riot folders or uninstall Vanguard as a first response to this sign-out problem. The available guidance supports closing games and restarting the client or PC, not destructive file changes.
