To right-click on a Samsung Galaxy tablet, connect a USB or Bluetooth mouse and press its right button. For Samsung DeX, Samsung documents right-click as a way to open more functions. A compatible keyboard cover with a touchpad can also provide pointer control, though menus and gestures may vary by app, tablet model, and software version.
What right-click does on a Samsung tablet
Right-click usually means opening a contextual menu for the item under the pointer. On a Galaxy tablet, this is most clearly a desktop-style feature in Samsung DeX, rather than a universal menu available in the same way throughout every standard Android screen. Samsung describes DeX as supporting right-click for more functions, but does not promise identical menus in every app.
Use a mouse to right-click
A mouse is the most direct option because it has a dedicated right button. Samsung lists USB and Bluetooth mice as input devices for DeX on supported Galaxy tablets.
- Check your tablet’s connection options. Confirm that your exact model supports the USB or Bluetooth connection you plan to use. For a USB mouse, you may need a compatible adapter or hub, depending on the tablet and mouse connector.
- Connect the mouse. Pair a Bluetooth mouse through the tablet’s Bluetooth settings, or connect a USB mouse to the tablet’s port or a compatible adapter.
- Open Samsung DeX if you want the desktop-style experience. On a supported tablet, launch DeX on the tablet itself. Samsung’s workspace instructions describe navigating DeX with a USB or Bluetooth mouse, among other input options.
- Point at an item and press the mouse’s right button. If the app supports a context menu for that item, it should appear. The available commands depend on the app and item.
Samsung’s guidance covers mouse input for DeX; it does not establish that every mouse or every app behaves identically.

Use DeX on the tablet or an external display
DeX provides a desktop-like workspace on supported Galaxy tablets. You can use it on the tablet or, on models and setups that support it, with an external display. Right-click is a DeX function, so the experience is most relevant when you are working in that environment.
Do not treat HDMI output as a requirement for standalone DeX. Samsung’s U.S. compatibility guide lists supported tablet families and separately notes models without HDMI output. It identifies the Tab S9 FE, Tab S9 FE+, Tab S10 FE, Tab S10 FE+, and Tab S10 Lite as not compatible with HDMI output; that limitation alone does not establish whether standalone DeX is supported on a particular model. Check the compatibility entry for your exact tablet and intended use in Samsung’s DeX guide for Galaxy tablets.

Use a keyboard-cover touchpad
If your Samsung tablet has a compatible Book Cover Keyboard with a touchpad, the touchpad can replace a separate mouse in DeX. This is useful when you want a keyboard and pointer control in one setup. Samsung’s guidance does not establish one universal right-click gesture for every touchpad, model, or software version, so check the instructions for your specific cover and tablet.

Choose the setup that fits your use

For tablet-only work in DeX, Samsung also lists the touchpad icon, S Pen, USB or Bluetooth mouse and keyboard, and keyboard cover as navigation options in its DeX workspace guide. These options are not all substitutes for a physical right button in every app.
If right-click does not open a menu
- Check the app and item. Context menus depend on app support and what you click; Samsung does not guarantee a matching menu everywhere.
- Confirm the input device is connected. For Bluetooth, check pairing; for USB, check the connector or adapter.
- Confirm the tablet and mode are supported. Look up the precise model and distinguish tablet-only DeX from external-display use in Samsung’s compatibility guidance.
- For a keyboard cover, verify the model match. A cover intended for another tablet may not fit or provide the expected controls.
Check Samsung’s guidance for your model
Samsung’s U.S. pages cover multiple tablet generations, while its DeX overview describing right-click comes from Samsung Australia. Compatibility and available modes can differ by model and market.
