Milwaukee M18 FUEL is the better long-term platform for most professionals because Milwaukee documents more than 250 compatible M18 solutions and offers advanced electronic control across its FUEL tools. RIDGID NUKE is the better compact-kit value when a light drill-and-impact set, smaller form factor and RIDGID’s registration-based Lifetime Service Agreement matter more than the size of the tool catalog.
That is not a universal win. The fair choice depends on the exact matched tool, battery capacity, warranty conditions and whether you already own batteries and chargers. The specifications below come from current manufacturer product pages; they are not an independent runtime, durability or repair-rate test.
What RIDGID NUKE and Milwaukee M18 FUEL actually are
RIDGID NUKE: a compact 18V SubCompact line
RIDGID NUKE is an 18V SubCompact family aimed at reducing the size and weight of everyday drilling and fastening tools without leaving the RIDGID 18V battery platform. The commonly compared RNKSCK202 kit contains a 1/2-inch hammer drill, a 1/4-inch impact driver, one 4.0Ah MAX Output battery, one 2.0Ah MAX Output battery, a charger and a bag.

Milwaukee M18 FUEL: a broad 18V professional system
M18 FUEL is Milwaukee’s brushless performance tier within its M18 battery system. Its architecture combines POWERSTATE brushless motors, REDLINK PLUS electronic intelligence and REDLITHIUM batteries. The cited 2953-20 1/4-inch hex impact driver is listed at 2,000 in-lbs of torque, up to 3,900 RPM, four operating modes, a 4.47-inch length and a 2.2 lb bare-tool weight.
Milwaukee says the M18 system is compatible with more than 250 solutions. That published figure includes the wider M18 range, not just FUEL-branded drills and impact drivers, so it is an ecosystem measure rather than a claim that every solution has identical performance or battery requirements.
Specification comparison: what the cited products establish
| Attribute | RIDGID NUKE RNKSCK202 / cited drill | Milwaukee M18 FUEL 2953-20 | How to interpret it |

Power and electronic control
Why equal torque numbers do not mean identical performance
Both cited impact drivers carry a 2,000 in-lbs maximum torque rating. That makes the headline number a tie, but maximum torque alone does not tell you how quickly a fastener seats, how smoothly the tool starts, how it limits speed in a delicate material or how much work it completes per charge. Chuck or hex-bit condition, fastener type, material, operator technique and battery state all affect the result.
The RNKSCK202 impact driver is listed at up to 3,800 RPM and four modes. The Milwaukee 2953-20 is listed at up to 3,900 RPM and four modes, with Milwaukee’s POWERSTATE motor and REDLINK PLUS intelligence. On paper, Milwaukee has a small top-speed advantage and a specifically described electronic-control architecture. RIDGID’s four-mode listing still gives the compact kit adjustable operation; the available material does not establish that one brand’s modes are better in every application.
What the RIDGID drill adds to the comparison
The RNKSCK202 includes a hammer drill, so it is a more complete starting point for a buyer who needs both drilling and impact fastening. RIDGID lists 750 in-lbs of drill torque, two speed ranges from 0–600 and 0–2,000 RPM, and a 2.4 lb tool weight. The hammer function is useful when the job requires that operating mode, but the cited information does not provide an independent drilling-speed, runtime or masonry-capacity test.

How to read the Milwaukee 2953-20 specification
The 2953-20 is a bare 1/4-inch hex impact driver, not a combo kit. Its 4.47-inch length and 2.2 lb bare-tool weight explain why it is attractive for work in cabinets, framing bays and other tight spaces. Because the weight excludes the battery, compare it with a RIDGID tool using the same battery-capacity convention before declaring one setup lighter.
Portability, balance and battery size
RIDGID emphasizes the NUKE drill’s 20% shorter body and 2.4 lb tool weight. A shorter head can reduce wrist leverage and make it easier to keep the bit aligned in confined spaces. The benefit is most meaningful when the battery is also appropriately sized; a large pack can shift the center of gravity even when the bare tool is compact.
Milwaukee’s cited impact driver is 4.47 inches long and 2.2 lb without a battery. That is a compact bare tool, but an M18 battery adds both mass and length below the grip. The M18 system offers multiple battery capacities, so the practical choice is often a balance between runtime and maneuverability rather than a simple brand ranking.
For a fair hands-on comparison, put the same class of battery on each matched tool, weigh the complete assembly, measure from the front of the chuck or hex opening to the rear of the pack, and note whether the tool can stand or fit where you routinely work. Do not compare a bare Milwaukee tool with a battery-installed RIDGID kit and call the difference a design advantage.
Ecosystem breadth and the cost of changing platforms
Milwaukee’s documented advantage
Milwaukee states that M18 is compatible with more than 250 solutions. A professional who expects to add specialty tools over several years can treat that breadth as a form of flexibility: one battery family can cover many categories, provided the particular tool is an M18 model and the battery’s output is appropriate for it.

What RIDGID confirms—and what it does not
RIDGID states that the NUKE tools work with all RIDGID 18V batteries, tools and chargers. That is valuable platform continuity, especially for someone who already owns RIDGID 18V equipment. The reviewed product page does not publish a comparable total number of 18V solutions, so there is no evidence here to claim that the RIDGID catalog is as large as Milwaukee’s or to assign it a precise ranking.
Existing batteries usually outweigh small specification differences
Neither brand’s 18V batteries and chargers are interchangeable with the other brand’s products. If you already own several usable batteries and a charger, staying on that platform avoids buying duplicate packs and charging hardware. The money and downtime involved in changing systems can exceed the practical value of a 100 RPM difference or a small bare-tool weight difference.
Service, registration and warranty risk
RIDGID Lifetime Service Agreement
RIDGID’s Lifetime Service Agreement is not automatic lifetime coverage for every tool. Qualifying products must be registered within 90 days, and the program has exclusions and service-center requirements. Keep the purchase documentation, complete registration promptly, and read the current terms for the exact model and region. A tool that was not eligible, was not registered on time or falls under an exclusion may not receive the service a buyer expects.
Milwaukee’s model-specific limited warranty
The cited M18 FUEL impact-driver platform page shows a five-year limited tool warranty. Milwaukee warranty periods vary by model, so do not transfer that five-year term to every M18 product, battery or accessory. Check the warranty statement attached to the exact model number, then confirm what it covers, how claims are initiated and whether local service conditions apply.
How to compare the programs fairly
Compare the written coverage rather than the label “lifetime” or the number of years alone. Check registration deadlines, proof-of-purchase rules, exclusions, wear-item treatment, shipping or service-center responsibilities and the geographic scope. The best program for you is the one whose conditions you can satisfy and whose local service process is practical.

Kit versus bare tool: what you are actually buying
When the RIDGID RNKSCK202 kit makes sense
The RNKSCK202 is a ready-to-use two-tool package: hammer drill, impact driver, 4.0Ah and 2.0Ah MAX Output batteries, charger and bag. It suits a buyer starting an 18V collection who needs drilling and fastening immediately and values a compact form factor. The second battery also lets one tool remain available while the other is in use, although no controlled runtime figure for either pack is published in the cited material.
When the Milwaukee 2953-20 makes sense
The 2953-20 is a professional-platform or bare-tool purchase. It is a logical route for someone who already owns M18 batteries and chargers, wants the compact 4.47-inch impact driver, or plans to build around the larger M18 catalog. A new Milwaukee buyer must budget for a compatible battery and charger separately unless selecting a bundle that includes them; current regional package contents and prices are not established here.
Do not use kit contents as a performance test
A two-tool kit and a bare impact driver answer different buying problems. The RIDGID package includes more hardware on day one, while the Milwaukee listing emphasizes one tool within a much larger system. Compare the complete cost and capability you need—drill, impact driver, batteries, charger and service terms—rather than comparing a kit price with a bare-tool price.

Professional building a large cordless fleet
Choose M18 FUEL when the documented 250-plus-solution ecosystem, brushless POWERSTATE motor, REDLINK PLUS intelligence and model variety are central to your work. The advantage is platform breadth, not proof that every M18 tool outperforms every NUKE tool.

Choose the RNKSCK202 when the included hammer drill, impact driver, two batteries, charger and bag match your immediate jobs and the NUKE drill’s shorter, 2.4 lb format is attractive. Confirm that the registration requirement for the Lifetime Service Agreement is acceptable before relying on it as a deciding benefit.

Current RIDGID 18V owner
NUKE is usually the lower-friction expansion because your existing RIDGID 18V batteries and charger are specified as compatible. You can reserve the new batteries for high-demand work and keep older packs for lighter tasks, subject to their condition and the tool’s requirements.
Current M18 owner
The 2953-20 is the straightforward platform choice because it uses your existing M18 batteries. The value of the four-mode impact driver and the larger catalog should be weighed against the exact warranty term and the cost of another bare tool or battery.
Buyer with no batteries yet
Start by listing the next five tools you realistically expect to purchase, not just the first drill and impact driver. Compare which platform supplies those categories, what battery capacities they require, the service conditions you can meet and the total number of chargers and batteries you will own. The published evidence supports Milwaukee’s larger documented catalog, while RIDGID’s compact kit supplies a clearly defined starter configuration.

- Inventory your current platform. Record every RIDGID 18V or M18 battery, charger and tool you already own. Exclude damaged or weak packs from the usable count.
- Match tool types. Compare a RIDGID impact driver with a Milwaukee impact driver, and a RIDGID hammer drill with a Milwaukee hammer drill. Do not use the RNKSCK202 drill’s torque as a substitute for an impact-driver specification.
- Choose the complete configuration. Write down the tool, battery capacity, charger and accessories required for a working setup. Note whether each quoted weight is bare-tool or tool-with-battery.
- Prioritize the work environment. Measure the tightest spaces you routinely enter, then consider body length, battery overhang, balance and the need for a hammer-drill mode.
- Check control requirements. If controlled fastening, speed selection or electronic protection is important, compare the exact mode descriptions for the model numbers you intend to buy. A mode count by itself does not describe the behavior of each setting.
- Read the service terms. For RIDGID, verify qualification and register within 90 days if you buy a qualifying product. For Milwaukee, verify the model-specific limited-warranty term and claim process.
- Verify current local details. Confirm regional price, stock, generation, included batteries and charger, and the warranty document at checkout. These details can change and are not established by the cited specifications.
- Buy the platform, not only the first tool. Estimate the number of batteries and chargers you will need after adding the next few tools. That total is more meaningful than a single headline torque or speed number.
What the available specifications cannot prove
The manufacturer pages establish the listed torque, speed, dimensions, weight, compatibility, mode counts, ecosystem statement and warranty information. They do not establish a controlled RIDGID-versus-Milwaukee runtime comparison, durability result, noise measurement, repair rate, fastener-throughput test or current street-price winner.
Marketing ratings also depend on test conditions and definitions. Maximum torque is not the same as breakaway torque in a particular material; maximum RPM is not the speed maintained under load; and a bare-tool weight does not represent the mass in your hand with a battery attached. Treat those numbers as useful specifications for narrowing a purchase, not as a substitute for a controlled comparison.
Verdict
Pick Milwaukee M18 FUEL if your priority is a professional ecosystem with more than 250 documented M18 solutions, a compact 2953-20 impact driver with four modes and 3,900 RPM, and the electronic-control architecture associated with FUEL tools. Pick RIDGID NUKE if you want a lighter, shorter starter drill-and-impact kit, already own RIDGID 18V equipment, or place high value on the registration-based Lifetime Service Agreement and can meet its conditions.
For either choice, match the tool type and battery size, verify the exact warranty and package contents, and account for the platform you already own. Those checks are more reliable than declaring one brand universally better from a single torque or speed figure.
