Choose the RhinoShield CrashGuard bumper if you want the iPhone’s original back visible and are willing to leave it exposed. Choose a full case such as SolidSuit when you want one shell covering both the back and the edges. Your exact iPhone generation, screen-protector choice, charging setup and tolerance for scratches matter as much as the case name. CrashGuard’s 11-foot claim and SolidX’s 71% impact-force claim are manufacturer figures, not results from an independent head-to-head test.
The short answer: coverage is the deciding factor
A bumper case is an open-back frame. It wraps around the phone’s perimeter and leaves the rear glass or aluminum visible. RhinoShield describes CrashGuard as a backplate-free, lightweight bumper intended to show the phone’s true color. A full-coverage case adds a back panel, so the phone’s rear and edges are enclosed in one accessory. SolidSuit is RhinoShield’s named protective full case on its iPhone 16 buying page; SolidX is a newer full-case option shown on the iPhone 17 page.
Neither design is automatically best. CrashGuard suits someone who values a minimal profile and an unobstructed back more than rear-surface protection. SolidSuit or the model-appropriate current full case suits someone who wants a barrier between the phone and tables, pockets, bags and accidental impacts from any direction. A screen protector is a separate decision: a case alone does not cover the display.

| Question | CrashGuard bumper | SolidSuit or another full case |
|---|---|---|
| Is the iPhone back covered? | No. The backplate-free design leaves the rear visible. | Yes. A rear panel sits between the phone and the surface. |
| What is enclosed? | The perimeter; it is intended to protect the frame area while preserving an open back. | The back and perimeter in one shell. |
| Visual effect | Shows the iPhone’s original color and finish. | Changes the appearance of the back and may hide the finish. |
| Product-specific impact statement | RhinoShield says ShockSpread is designed for drops up to 11 feet (3.5 meters) and that its honeycomb structure increases impact absorption by 10%. | SolidSuit is described as exceeding military standards. The iPhone 17 SolidX page says reinforced corners and inner shock grooves absorb up to 71% of impact force. |
| How the figure was established | Manufacturer claim; the cited material does not provide an independent comparison with a full case. | Manufacturer descriptions; the cited material does not provide a common, independent test against CrashGuard. |
| Screen protection | Not supplied by the bumper itself. | Not supplied by the case itself; add a compatible protector if you need display coverage. |
The table separates a design fact from a performance claim. An exposed back remains exposed even if a bumper performs well in a drop. Conversely, a full case can cover the back without guaranteeing that the screen is protected from a direct impact.

- 【Strong Adsorption】The inspiration of the silicone phone suction case comes from the adhesive force of the octopus. Each suction cup phone mount is 3.15 inches long and 2.17 inches wide, with 24 independent suction cups providing a stronger and more stable suction force, so you don't have to worry about your phone falling during use.
- 【Back of Phone Suction Grip】Remove the adhesive film on the phone suction cup and stick it on the phone case. You can then fix the phone on any smooth surface, which is very convenient. (The phone suction cup cannot be removed and reused after being attached to the phone case. It is recommended to attach it to a regular phone case, not a valuable one.)
- 【Widely Used】Our non-slip silicone phone sticky grip mount attaches to almost any flat phone case and make it compatible with common mobile phones such as iPhone and Android. You can shoot, watch videos or video calls in the kitchen, gym, dance studio, bathroom and other places.
- 【Capture the Wonderful Picture】Whether you are a TikTok creator or just like to share videos and photos, this phone suction cup can help you hands-free capture wonderful videos and photos for sharing with friends.
- 【Note】You can fix the phone suction cup on a smooth surface such as a mirror or glass. If necessary, wipe the suction cup with a damp cloth to obtain stronger suction. Before releasing your hand, make sure the phone is firmly fixed. (Not applicable to rough walls, wooden surfaces, and other uneven surfaces)
CrashGuard: when an open back makes sense
You want the original finish on display
CrashGuard’s defining feature is the lack of a backplate. That lets the iPhone’s color, texture and branding remain visible and avoids the visual weight of a traditional shell. If you change cases frequently or bought a particular finish specifically to see it, this is the strongest reason to choose the bumper.
You prefer a lightweight, minimal accessory
Removing the rear panel reduces the amount of material around the phone. RhinoShield calls CrashGuard lightweight and says its backplate-free design allows the phone to breathe and helps prevent overheating. That statement is product-page copy, not a measurement of temperatures in every charging or gaming situation. The practical trade-off is straightforward: less material at the back also means less physical separation between the iPhone and whatever it rests on.
You accept rear-surface exposure
With no backplate, grit on a desk, a rough car console or keys in a bag can still contact the iPhone’s rear. The bumper cannot provide the same scratch barrier as a full rear shell. If the phone’s back is glass, or if resale condition matters, treat this as a daily-use risk rather than a minor cosmetic detail.
SolidSuit and SolidX: when complete enclosure matters
SolidSuit for the iPhone 16 listing
RhinoShield’s cited iPhone 16 buying page calls SolidSuit a “Classic Protective Case.” It lists thermoplastic elastomer (TPE) as the material and says the case exceeds military standards. The page also identifies wireless-charging compatibility, with a qualification that compatibility may vary for non-Apple devices. For an iPhone, verify the exact model and charging accessory rather than assuming that every charger behaves identically.

- SUPERIOR COMFORT — Unlike traditional circular ear buds, the design of EarPods is defined by the geometry of the ear. Which makes them more comfortable for more people than any other ear bud–style headphones.
- HIGH-QUALITY AUDIO — The speakers inside EarPods have been engineered to maximize sound output and minimize sound loss, which means you get high-quality audio.
- BUILT-IN REMOTE — EarPods with USB-C plug also include a built-in remote that lets you adjust the volume, control the playback of music and video, and answer or end calls with a pinch of the cord.
- COMPATIBILITY — Works with all devices that have a USB-C port.
- INTEGRATED MICROPHONE — A built-in microphone precisely captures your voice while you’re on the phone, taking a FaceTime call, or summoning Siri — so you’re always heard loud and clear.
SolidX on the iPhone 17 page
The iPhone 17 product page presents SolidX as a newer named case. RhinoShield describes reinforced internal corners and inner shock grooves, and says they absorb up to 71% of impact force. That percentage is a RhinoShield claim; it is not an independently measured result against CrashGuard or SolidSuit under the same conditions. The same page lists Impact Protector PRO and 9H Tempered Glass as add-ons, which means display protection is handled separately from the case.
Why a full back changes everyday risk
A rear panel creates a sacrificial surface for contact with tables, counters and bags. It can also stop small particles from rubbing directly against the phone. It does not make the handset indestructible: a severe corner strike, a drop onto a protruding object or an uncovered camera or screen can still cause damage. The benefit is broader physical coverage, not a guarantee against every failure mode.
How much weight should you give the drop numbers?
CrashGuard’s stated maximum is 11 feet (3.5 meters), and its honeycomb structure is said to provide 10% additional impact absorption. SolidX is described as absorbing up to 71% of impact force. These numbers have three important limits:
- They are supplied by RhinoShield, not by an independent laboratory cited in the material available here.
- The pages do not establish that the products were tested with the same phone model, drop orientation, surface, temperature or number of repetitions.
- A maximum claimed drop height is not a promise that every drop from a lower height will be harmless; real outcomes depend on where the phone lands and what it strikes.
Use the figures to understand how each product is positioned, not to rank one case as objectively safer. The defensible comparison is coverage: CrashGuard leaves the back open, while a full case adds a rear barrier. If you need a purchasing decision based on laboratory data, look for a published test protocol that names both products and controls the variables; the cited product pages do not provide one.

Exact iPhone model fit is not optional
Cases are molded around a phone’s dimensions, button locations, camera arrangement and charging alignment. The cited pages cover different generations: SolidSuit appears on an iPhone 16 buying page, while SolidX appears on an iPhone 17 page. That does not prove that either listing fits every iPhone 16 or iPhone 17 variant, let alone older or smaller models.
- Open the product selector and choose the precise iPhone generation shown on your phone’s Settings page under Settings > General > About.
- Confirm the model designation, not only the screen-size description. “Pro,” “Pro Max” and standard models can have different camera cutouts and dimensions.
- Check the case page’s compatibility list immediately before ordering. A case for one generation should not be treated as a universal iPhone accessory.
- After installation, verify that every button, microphone opening, speaker opening, camera area and charging port is unobstructed.
If a listing does not name your exact model, pause rather than relying on a similar-looking phone. A close fit can still press a button continuously, interfere with a camera lens or leave a corner unprotected.
Screen protection: case and protector must be treated as a system
The display is not protected merely because the frame is enclosed. Choose a screen protector separately if you want a sacrificial layer over the glass. RhinoShield says SolidX and SolidSuit should work with most third-party full-coverage protectors, but also says the result depends on the protector’s design. Its own protectors are designed for the case.

Check the edge relationship
A protector that reaches too far toward the edge can lift when a case presses against it. One with a different corner radius can leave a crescent of uncovered glass. Before applying it, compare the protector’s stated case compatibility with the exact SolidSuit or SolidX model.

Install in the right order
- Clean the display in a dust-free room and remove particles with the supplied tool or a clean microfiber cloth.
- Apply the protector according to its alignment instructions before fitting the case, unless the protector maker explicitly specifies another order.
- Install the case gently, starting with one corner and checking that the frame does not catch the protector’s edge.
- Press around the perimeter and inspect for lifting, bubbles that grow from an edge, or a corner that no longer sits flat.
- Remove and refit only as the protector maker allows; repeated lifting can weaken adhesive and introduce dust.
With CrashGuard, the same protector decision applies, but the bumper cannot provide a rear barrier. With a full case, front and back coverage still come from different accessories.
Wireless charging and heat considerations
The cited SolidSuit iPhone 16 page lists wireless-charging compatibility and warns that compatibility may vary for non-Apple devices. For an iPhone, test your actual charger, stand and alignment after installing the case. A phone that begins charging but repeatedly disconnects, charges unusually slowly or becomes hotter than usual needs investigation rather than an assumption that the case is defective.
CrashGuard’s official copy says its backplate-free design lets the phone breathe and prevents overheating. That is a design rationale, not a universal thermal guarantee. Heat also depends on ambient temperature, charger power, signal strength, gaming load and whether the phone is trapped under fabric. If heat is your deciding factor, compare the same workload and charger with and without the case instead of treating a marketing statement as a test result.
A decision framework that matches the case to your habits
| Your priority | More suitable starting point | Reason |
|---|---|---|
| Show the iPhone’s color and keep the accessory visually minimal | CrashGuard | Its backplate-free bumper leaves the rear visible. |
| Protect the rear from desk and bag contact | SolidSuit or the model-appropriate full case | A back panel creates a physical barrier. |
| Carry the phone with keys, coins or grit | Full case | Enclosing the back reduces direct contact with abrasive items, although it cannot eliminate all scratches. |
| Use a full-coverage screen protector | Either, after checking fit | The protector is separate; SolidX/SolidSuit compatibility depends on its design. |
| Choose based on a numerical drop ranking | Neither from these pages alone | The published figures are manufacturer claims without a controlled head-to-head test. |
| Buy for a new iPhone generation | The case listed for that exact generation | The cited pages are model-specific and should not be generalized across generations. |
Step-by-step buying checklist
- Identify the phone. Record the exact generation, size and variant from Settings, not from memory.
- Decide whether the back must be covered. If “no” is unacceptable, skip the bumper category and start with a full case.
- Set your cosmetic priority. Choose CrashGuard only if preserving the original rear finish outweighs the exposure that comes with an open back.
- Choose the listed case family. For the cited pages, SolidSuit is the full-case option shown for iPhone 16 and SolidX is shown for iPhone 17. Confirm current availability and fit for your own model.
- Plan display protection. Add a screen protector if you need one, and verify its edge dimensions against the selected case.
- Check charging in your real setup. Test your charger or stand after installation, especially if you use a non-Apple charging accessory.
- Inspect after fitting. Confirm buttons, cameras, microphones, speakers and the charging port work normally before relying on the case.
Common mistakes and how to avoid them
Assuming a bumper protects the back
The word “case” can make coverage sound broader than it is. CrashGuard’s defining feature is the absence of a backplate. If the phone lands rear-first on a sharp or dirty surface, that exposed area remains the point of contact.

Treating “military standards” as a complete test report
SolidSuit’s page says it exceeds military standards, but the cited description does not specify a test standard, laboratory, drop sequence or pass/fail conditions. Read the statement as the manufacturer’s product positioning, not as a substitute for a detailed protocol.
Applying a protector without checking case clearance
Even a protector described as full coverage may have a shape that conflicts with a particular frame. Use the case maker’s compatibility guidance, leave the adhesive untouched until alignment is confirmed, and inspect the edges after fitting.
Buying by iPhone family rather than model
A case listed for iPhone 16 is not evidence of fit for every iPhone 16 variant, and an iPhone 17 listing does not establish compatibility with earlier phones. Select the exact model in the product selector.
Reading a single impact number as a guarantee
Drop height and force-absorption percentages describe controlled claims, not every real-world landing. Keep a secure grip, avoid placing the phone on unstable surfaces and replace a case that is cracked, stretched or no longer holds the phone firmly.
Which one should you buy?
Buy CrashGuard when your first requirement is an open-back, lightweight bumper that shows the iPhone’s original finish, and you accept that the rear can still be scratched or struck. Buy SolidSuit, or the full case listed for your exact generation such as SolidX on the cited iPhone 17 page, when covering the back is part of the protection you expect. Add a properly fitted screen protector if you want display coverage, and treat all impact figures as RhinoShield claims rather than independent rankings.
