Is the Anbernic RG55G1 a good alternative to the Nintendo Switch Lite? Yes, if you want an Android handheld for Android games and emulation; no, if you want a device for Nintendo Switch games. They look like alternatives in form, but they serve different game libraries.
Can the RG55G1 play Nintendo Switch games?
Do not buy the RG55G1 expecting access to the Nintendo Switch library. Anbernic describes it as an Android 14 handheld that supports Android games and more than 20 types of emulators. Nintendo describes Switch Lite as a Nintendo Switch system that plays Switch games that work in handheld mode. Those are separate software ecosystems, and the cited product information does not establish that the RG55G1 runs Switch games.

Nintendo’s compatibility wording matters: Switch Lite supports the portion of the Switch catalog that works in handheld mode, not necessarily every Switch title. Check a game’s compatibility before choosing the Lite for a specific title.

What games can the Anbernic RG55G1 play?
Anbernic lists Android games and support for more than 20 emulator types. That describes advertised software support, not guaranteed performance for every game or system. The manufacturer’s listing does not provide independent, game-by-game results, so smoothness and compatibility for a particular title remain unverified.
#1 Best Overall
- Compact, lightweight handheld system
- Available in a range of fun colors
- Online and local wireless multiplayer
- Nintendo Switch is the home of Mario & friends
Emulation also depends on having game files in relevant formats. Anbernic says users can download games in those formats, but that statement does not establish the legality of any particular download. Use game files only when you have the right to use them.

Which handheld should you choose?
Choose the RG55G1 for Android and emulation
Consider the RG55G1 if your priority is Android gaming, an advertised range of emulator types, and configurable storage. Anbernic lists 4GB/64GB and 8GB/128GB configurations and TF-card expansion up to 2TB. Those specifications do not show how comfortably the device handles a particular game, how long it lasts in real use, or how much setup a chosen emulator requires.
Choose Switch Lite for Nintendo’s handheld-compatible Switch catalog
Choose Switch Lite if you want Nintendo’s Switch ecosystem in a system designed for handheld play, with controls built into the device. Confirm that the Switch games you care about work in handheld mode, since Nintendo describes compatibility in those terms.

What the specifications cannot tell you
The published feature lists do not settle which device is more comfortable for long sessions, how long either lasts under your play conditions, or how reliably the RG55G1 runs particular emulated games. Anbernic’s eight-hour battery figure is a manufacturer claim, not an independently measured runtime. Treat performance, ergonomics, and setup effort as open questions unless you can assess them against the specific games and play habits that matter to you.
