Anthropic told investors that third-quarter 2026 revenue reached $16.8 billion, about 45% above the previous quarter, and that the company was profitable on an adjusted basis. The figures came from a closed pre-IPO meeting reported by Reuters, not from an audited earnings release, so the profitability claim should not be read as GAAP net income.

What Anthropic disclosed to investors

At a pre-IPO meeting in San Francisco on October 14, 2026, Anthropic leadership told attendees that third-quarter revenue rose 45% from the prior quarter to $16.8 billion, according to an investor who attended and spoke to Reuters. Anthropic did not immediately respond to Reuters’ request for comment.

The same investor disclosure said Anthropic was profitable on an adjusted basis in Q3. No adjusted-profit dollar amount, operating margin, GAAP net income, cash-flow figure or audited financial statement was provided in the reports describing the meeting.

Anthropic’s reported revenue by period

Period Revenue How it was reported
2025 Nearly $4.6 billion Reuters retrospective published in 2026
Q1 2026 $4.7 billion Reuters report
Q2 2026 $11.6 billion Reuters report
Q2 2026 More than $11.5 billion Fortune report citing Bloomberg
Q3 2026 $16.8 billion Investor disclosure reported by Reuters

The $11.6 billion and “more than $11.5 billion” descriptions refer to the same second quarter. The difference is rounding and source presentation, not evidence of two different Q2 results. Using Reuters’ figures, the increase from $11.6 billion to $16.8 billion is about 44.8%, which rounds to the reported 45% quarter-over-quarter growth.

Why “adjusted profitable” is a limited claim

Adjusted profitability is an accounting presentation rather than a standardized measure of bottom-line earnings. Companies can exclude or normalize selected costs when calculating an adjusted result. Without a reconciliation, readers cannot determine which expenses Anthropic excluded or how the figure would compare with generally accepted accounting principles.

  • The reports do not state Anthropic’s adjusted profit in dollars.
  • They do not state an adjusted operating or net margin for Q3.
  • They do not establish positive GAAP net income.
  • They do not provide operating cash flow, free cash flow or balance-sheet data.
  • They do not include audited financial statements.

For that reason, the accurate description is that Anthropic told investors it was profitable on an adjusted basis. Calling the company GAAP-profitable would go beyond the disclosure.

This was an investor briefing, not public-company earnings

The figures came through an investor who attended a closed meeting before a potential initial public offering. They were reported by Reuters from that source rather than released in a regulatory filing or a conventional public earnings statement. Until Anthropic publishes financial statements or files formal IPO documents, the revenue and profit figures should be treated as management’s investor presentation as relayed by a meeting attendee.

That distinction matters for comparisons. A reported revenue number is more useful when readers also know whether it comes from audited statements, a regulatory filing, or an unaudited management update. Anthropic’s Q3 figure currently belongs to the last category.

The growth comes with unusually large infrastructure commitments

Reuters reported that Anthropic was targeting a valuation above $2 trillion while committing at least $518 billion over a decade for cloud services, computing and other infrastructure. The scale of that commitment is central to the investor pitch: rapid sales growth must continue to outpace the cost of training, serving and expanding frontier AI systems.

Alphabet/Google and Amazon are identified as Anthropic investors, computing suppliers and distribution partners. Anthropic develops the Claude family of generative-AI models, whose operation requires substantial data-center capacity and specialized computing. High revenue does not by itself show that those long-term infrastructure obligations will be covered by operating cash generation.

How to interpret the Q3 result

  • Growth: The disclosed quarter was substantially larger than Q2, continuing the sharp increase from $4.7 billion in Q1.
  • Accounting basis: The profit statement is adjusted, with no published bridge to GAAP results.
  • Source quality: The information came from a closed pre-IPO meeting and an investor source.
  • Cost exposure: Anthropic’s reported infrastructure commitments could remain a major cash requirement even as revenue rises.
  • Valuation test: A valuation above $2 trillion would depend on investors accepting both the growth trajectory and the costs needed to sustain it.

What readers should watch next

The most consequential next disclosure would be a formal IPO filing or audited financial report showing revenue recognition, expenses, cash flow, adjusted-to-GAAP reconciliations and commitments to cloud and computing providers. Those documents would show whether the adjusted profit claim translates into GAAP earnings and cash generation, and whether the reported growth rate is recurring rather than a single period’s investor estimate.
