If you want a retro-rooted adventure on PS4 or PS5, start with Spyro Reignited Trilogy: it brings the first three Spyro adventures—originally released for PS1—together in a modern collection. Ratchet & Clank for PS4 is another strong pick, but it is a substantial remake of the 2002 PS2 game, not the untouched original. These are PlayStation adventure picks; the available evidence does not establish that every game here is exclusive to PlayStation.

Why Spyro Reignited Trilogy is the clearest fit
Spyro Reignited Trilogy is the most direct match for a retro-adventure shortlist because it collects the first three Spyro adventures that began on PS1. PlayStation identifies Spyro the Dragon as a 1998 release and Spyro 2: Ripto’s Rage! as a 1999 release. The collection gives players a modern version of that early series rather than the original PS1 releases themselves. The PS4 Ratchet & Clank revisits the first series entry, drawing on the 2002 PS2 game while adding new planets, Clank gameplay, and voice acting. That makes it a retro-rooted choice, but players expecting the original game unchanged should know they are choosing a remake. PlayStation outlines those differences in its retro remakes guide.

Playing PS4 games on a PS5
PlayStation says the overwhelming majority of more than 4,000 PS4 games are playable on PS5 consoles. That is broad compatibility, not a guarantee of identical behavior for every title: some games may lack PS4 features or show errors or unexpected behavior. The compatibility list can change, so check PlayStation’s current PS4-to-PS5 compatibility guidance for a particular game.
Physical discs need a PS5 with a disc drive
A PS4 game disc cannot be used in the disc-free PS5 Digital Edition. To play a physical PS4 copy on PS5, use a console with a disc drive and keep the game disc inserted while playing. Digital ownership is separate from disc playback; confirm which format you own and which PS5 model you have before relying on a copy.

Game Boost may improve select titles
Some PS4 games can benefit from Game Boost on PS5, which may provide higher or smoother frame rates. It applies to select titles, not automatically to every backward-compatible game. PlayStation lists Game Boost information within its backward-compatibility support page.
Where the retro-adventure label stops
Not every remake of a classic game is an adventure recommendation. PlayStation identifies Silent Hill 2 as a PS5 remake of the 2001 PS2 title, but survival horror is the more accurate genre label. It can suit readers seeking a horror-adventure boundary case, but it should not be treated as interchangeable with a lighter adventure-platforming collection such as Spyro Reignited Trilogy. Similarly, The Last of Us Part II is a PS4 action-adventure that PlayStation includes among notable PS4 games playable on PS5, but it is not a retro title.
